Well, I'm stuck now.

I have an old desktop XP home version that I want to get some files off of, however, I have forgot my user name and cannot get past the sign-in screen!

Is there any way to try and bypass that log in screen? If not, then I guess I just trash that computer, but I have some music on it that I would really like to get off.

idk would safemode work to bypass the login screen?

It will.

Go into safe mode and create a guest account. Used to use that to get on the computers at work.

This sounds like the antithesis of a 'safe' mode.

It will.

I think you can change the password too.....don't really remember for sure.

When you go in to safe mode you still have to login using an account and since it's the home version it doesn't have an admin account unless he created one.

I can get in with safe mode, but cannot access the files that I want. I also cannot find a way to change the orginal password so that I can log in normally and get access to the files that I want.

Do you remember your previous password? I'm wondering if you could re-boot and hit an "F" button during the boot process? i.e. F12 or whatever for your OS and reset your registry to the original or back one record?

For me it's F8 as the computer is booting and it takes you to a menu where you can select different options. Its gonna be one of the "F" buttons just don't know which one for XP.

I think I did this before.
