View Full Version : QB Jamarcus Russell bust for Codeine "SIZZURP"
Ex-Raiders QB Russell arrested on Ala. drug charge
The Associated Press
Monday, July 5, 2010; 6:39 PM
MOBILE, Ala. -- Alabama authorities say former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell has been charged with possession of codeine syrup - a controlled substance - without a prescription.
Mobile County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Myles says the 24-year-old former LSU star was arrested Monday afternoon at his home during an undercover investigation. He graduated from high school in Mobile.
Online records show he was booked into the Mobile jail and released on $2,500 bond.
The Raiders released Russell in May, just three years after being the No. 1 overall draft pick.
He won only seven of his 25 starts and was eventually benched. He's been criticized for lack of a work ethic.
Russell and his agent did not immediately return calls for comment.

It's typically found in prescription cough syrup.

what suprises me is why anyone ever thought this kid should be the #1 pick..
when i saw the first interview with him pre draft i turned to my friend and said "that guy will never be a succesfull QB" he said something like "why? cause he is going to the raiders?" and i said, no, cause the guy is to dumb to even talk.. how is he gunna read defenses and make snap decisions?

yes, internet message board grammer.. the standard all humans should be measured by... i might put forth the effort to capitalize and such... if i cared enough about grammatical correctness on a message board... your lucky this thing has spell check or you would have a harder time deciphering the message from my post... can you understand what the person is saying? that's all that really matters to me.. but then again. if it made me feel better about myself to make pointed remarks at other's (GASP) lack of proper capitalization.. i would probably do the same thing that you did... your cool bro..

Rumors about JaMarcus and codeine had been around for a while (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/05/rumors-about-jamarcus-and-codeine-had-been-around-for-awhile/)

Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group had.
McDonald points out via Twitter, "Wish I had a dollar for every time I got an e-mail or a tip about Russell (http://twitter.com/Jerrymcd/status/17821725711) and prescription cough syrup."
McDonald wisely resisted writing anything about it absent proof (http://twitter.com/Jerrymcd/status/17821766677), since doing so would have opened him up for a defamation suit that could have yielded enough cash to continue Russell's supply of codeine-rich cough syrup indefinitely into the future.
But now McDonald and the rest of us are free to speculate about the true nature of Russell's lethargy addiction (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/10/lethargy-addiction-label-inadvertently-sticks-to-jamarcus-russell/) -- the possible addiction to a substance that induces lethargy.

lol, what is the other side of the argument? the one you're on im guessing.. that it is cool to police people's grammar, just like it is cool to act super tough over the internet?
i'm curious, cause i didn't know there was an argument, i thought it was just a fact of life that certain sad people do both of those things, cause it makes them feel good..

lol no im not on any side i just always get a kick out of it when someone acts like grammar police (especially when they have no rebuttal for the argument) and when people act tough online. Always makes for good laughs.

i apologize if my post are not coherent?? enough for you, but seeing as how coherent refers to the presence of logic, and in no way has anything to do with capitalization.. i think it is you who should try to be more "coherent"..
either way, you could just not read my posts..... you know.. that's an option..

i do agree with that, it is pretty humorous:laugh2: .. usually when in a debate type setting, i view it as tantamount to concession.. but as this instance had no clear argument point, i was forced to believe it was purely for ego stroking.

Your lack of sentence structure lacks clarity or intelligibility, therefore your posts are not readily understandable. Now, I understand the need for "internet abbreviations" in posts but you take it too far. Your posts look garbled and give me a headache. I'd be pounding the sizzurp if I was playing in Oakland too.
Lets be real, even before the draft no one with half a brain thought Russell would be a good NFL QB. I've been wrong about guys like McFadden and Mike Williams before, but Russell had bust written on him since the word go.
I wouldn't have taken him on the first day let alone the first pick. I don't care if he can throw it 50 yards from his knees or some stupid Al Davis loving stuff like that.

This is sad. The young man clearly has a problem and needs help. This reminds me of Quincy Carter somewhat, only difference is i think Quincy actually cared about football unlike this clown. Despite his failure in Oakland, the opportunity to make millions is still right before him and he jeopardizes it with stupid ish like this.

He couldn't find a team before this so what are his chances now?
The "Sip Sip" is big down here. They put it in a two liter bottles of sprite (mix it with the sprite) and you cannot even tell it is a drug. Looks like he is just drinking Sprite because the green bottle hides the color. It actually turns the Sprite pink or purple like color.
I don't know the details, but the fact that he was arrested at home means there is more to this than him just having some "sip sip" on his person. There was obviously a large investigation prior to this arrest which could mean there is more coming.

Yeah no joke. It also makes you gain weight, hence Russell's left tackle sized figure. The more I read about this incident and add up everything else with this guy the more I find it unbelievable. If I were the Raiders I'd sue him for all the money, get it back and give it to charity. What a piece of human debris.

I think I would like to piggyback on this one...this is probably a sign of a potentially deeper problem and it's good he was caught. There's a high probability that this semi-addiction may have affected his weight as well as his on-field performance.
Hopefully he gets help for it and can get his life together. Despite being a bust, he certainly had the talent to be hugely successful in the NFL. Maybe this is a factor in his being a bust.
