As much as it pains me to say it as a spurs fan but lebron will never be considered better than Kobe. And yes I found it necessary to start a thread about it because I had been defending lebron all this time and what he did was shameful.
Now if Timmy can get a title we can still have that conversation between Tim and Kobe.
Ps I will be cheering for the lakers or any other team playing the heat, I know dislike the heat more than any other team!

The press conference may have been a bit over the top, but him leaving Cleveland is not shameful. The Cavaliers' owner ... now that's shameful.

How exactly is that shameful?

I think he would have had a better shot at a Championship if he had went to Chicago. They would have been completely stacked compared to Miami.

He'll never be considered better than Kobe because he changed teams? *smh*
JA Adande said it yesterday how he finds it interesting how people forget Kobe did the EXACT SAME THING (without the special) as Lebron before ultimately staying with the Lakers. He had everybody fly out to L.A. for all sorts of pomp and circumstance...even teams like the Knicks who you knew at the time had no shot at getting him.
Boy folks are killing me with all this hate on Lebron.
And realistically, I don't see Lebron changing teams any different than when Shaq left Orlando to go to L.A. People will forget all about this angst when the games start being played.

So far I don't consider him better than Kobe, but it's not because he left the Cavs. It's because he doesn't have the drive to win like Kobe. Hell, he doesn't have the drive that DWade has.

That is the main point right there, it's not about him changing teams. He lacks that killer drive that the other greats have.
And Lebron will save a lot of money with no income tax in Fl, so him taking a paycut to play in Miami isn't as big a deal as it may seem.

But that's a legit opinion because it's regarding his play. If it's cuz he left his original team, well that's just dumb logic, IMO.

The point is sometimes superstars change teams. The manner in which Lebron announced it might be in question, but the fact that his leaving was a possibility wasn't.

It's the way that he did it. Having an hourlong special and then waiting a half hour into before making the announcement. Also LeBron has anointed himself as the Chosen One, King all that nonsense and he hasn't backed it up yet. If you are all of these things then you don't have to join forces with other players to try to get yourself a ring. That's why people hate on Lebron. When Shaq left for LA I believe he announced during the Olympics in 96. No big staged event. Kobe did do the same thing but he also had 3 rings when he did it too and he ultimately stayed with LA and trusted the front office to get something done. Kobe also wasn't playing on teams that won 61 and 66 games and number 1 seeds going into the playoffs either. Those LA teams were barely making the playoffs so he had more than enough reason to want a trade. LeBron will never be in the MJ category after this move.

has it ever occured to any of you all that maybe LeBron didn't want to have a big crazy specticle made of where he was going to sign? it's an extremely huge probability that his sponsers wanted him to do it like this... "Chosen One", "King James", do you really think LeBron thought of all that? NO!! it's a sponser's marketing gimmick.
as for the move, I think it's great for Miami and speaks volumes about Cleveland's front office. the only help the Cavs got for Lebron was Shaq. since LeBron had been with the Cavs, he had to basically do it all himself.
regardless, none of this matters. any decision LeBron made would have been considered a poor decision by a lot of people anyway, even if he would've stayed in Cleveland.

Does it really matter if where he got the name from, if you are named the King and Chosen One you better back it up.
Give me a break with this he had to do it all himself. Did you not seem him basically quit in his teams most important games the last 2 playoffs. Imagine some of the greatest players like Magic, Larry, Michael giving up in a playoff game or series. He is the leader is that team and he decided to shut it down so he basically didn't do it all by himself when his teammates needed him the most.

Most people will forget about it. The Lebron haters, who are going to hate him no matter what, will always complain.
Just like with anyone else in any sport who has those folks out there who just hate him.
But that's a legit opinion because it's regarding his play. If it's cuz he left his original team, well that's just dumb logic, IMO.
Yep. Agreed. A complaint about his abilities, or lack there of in areas, is a legit complaint about where he stands among the greats but the fact that he left Cleveland is not one.
And have to live in the shadow of MJ? I don't blame him not wanting to go there.
I don't blame him at all. That's an enormous shadow to live under and it's one that very likely, no matter how good the teams are he'd have been on there, he likely would have never gotten out of that shadow.
He probably wouldn't have won (that's speculation of course) as many Championships as Jordan did there, likely he wouldn't have led any of them to a 72-10 record, or better, and probably wouldn't wind up being a 6x Finals MVP.
It's a shadow he'd have had an extremely difficult time getting away from.
I never thought he would go there. He could have won three championships there and people would still say MJ won twice as many.
Exactly.
No win situation there for him, really.

The way this all went down was silly, I agree, and could have been done without.
But the guy wasn't in MJ's category anyway and the likelyhood is he was never going to be anyway. He has a LONG way to go to even be mentioned in the same category of MJ.

I think if anything makes him a 'bad' person it would be the way he quit in the Boston series. He tanked the series for whatever reason, and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind he did.
I keep seeing how Cleveland didn't get him the help. That's pretty much baloney. The Cavs did nearly everything possible to appease LeBron while he was here. While message board people can say they should have done this or should have brought this guy, they're just living in a fantasy ball world and have no limitations of a cap, which the Cavs did, much of it attributed to LeBron.
That roster has been rolled on more than one occasion, and most of, if not all, transactions were given the BronBron seal of approval. They won over 120 games the last 2 years, quit acting like they didn't have a good team. And no matter who you surround him with, if he decides to quit, they'll never win anyhow.
If I were 25 and had the options he had, I'd probably lean to party time in Miami myself. But then again, I wouldn't have had 'Loyalty' tattooed on my body, or '330' (area code) either...and fed the public the line of bull he has the last few years.
As far as the fans being angry and showing some hate, big deal. Like any of you would be any different(think Emmitt or Troy bolting for the Redskins in their prime). They're just fans and have done everything a fan could possibly do, and now they're hurt through no fault of their own. I can understand why they are, but then again, the adults at least should know better than becoming so invested in a pro athlete.

Yeah, no kidding. Some people give James way too much credit. The dude clearly has a narcissistic side to him, and anyone that doesn't see that by now would have to be blind. I mean, he's a self-proclaimed King for God's sake. When are some people going to wake up and acknowledge that he's a little full of himself, and has been since all they hype he was receiving in high school?

I have no idea about the quitting thing as I didn't watch the series with Boston. I'm not a Cleveland fan so I didn't bother.
And yeah they won a lot of games...mostly because of him. They're not a good team and you'll see that this coming season. Without Lebron they won't win anywhere near the 60+ games they've won the last two seasons. They surrounded him with average to above average talent while he was there. They didn't surround him with much real help, not like the Lakers did for Kobe.
I realise there is a cap, and all that, but I'm pretty sure Kobe makes good money as well and the Lakers found a way to get players in there who could really help Kobe. Same with the Celtics getting Pierce some help the way they did.
And again, like in the other thread, no I wouldn't be upset about those players going to a rival. Yeah it would suck to see it happen but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it cause it's part of sports and I don't take it personal.
It seems like a lot of fans are taking Lebron leaving personally, like he screwed their moms or something, made a tape of it, and posted it on the internet.

Saying LeBron quit during the Boston series is a joke. The Celtics defense just took it to the scrubs on the Cavs. Jamison was a non factor the whole series, West had a few good quarters here and there and Shaq played like the washed up guy he is. The truth is the Cavs had one player and there is no way one great player can carry a team to a championship by himself. Kobe gets all the credit but if it wasnt for Fisher stepping up huge in game 3 and Bynum and Gasol, the Kobe and his Lakers would of lost just like LeBron did. Unfortunately for Boston,♠♠ Kobe's surrounding cast consists of legit players.
Lebron was smart enough to recognize that the way the Cavs are currently built he had no shot in hell of winning a title, so he took LESS money to win.
I also think ESPN is more to blame for the hype and circus the decision turned into then anyone. LeBron did the show but mostly because it raised over $500,000 for charity, it was pretty obvious he felt uncomfortable with it. ESPN saw the interest and pimped it out, and quite honestly it was pretty brilliant by them as idiots like me sat and actually watched it.

With the sign and trade, though, LeBron actually took the max deal from the Cavs and then it was traded to the Heat. Sign-and-trades allow you to take advantage of a Bird rights contract with minimal impact on the trading team due to trade exceptions, etc.
So actually, none of them took less money. They're all likely going to be making money on max deals.

The Celtics and Lakers were the better teams. Boston got healthy just in time for the playoffs and I believe they and the Lakers were the 2 best teams in the league. My other point was that it takes a team effort to win a championship and you have to have more then one player to do it. Ask Jordan, he knows as well as anyone that no matter how good he was he needed help.

It was said on ESPNRadio that ESPN approached Maverick Carter at the Cavs @ Lakers game LAST season and talked about the idea and Carter said that it would be good, but that LeBron would want charity involved.
After this, it was reported again the day prior that despite all of the rumors that it was being held in a NYC suburb because LeBron was leaning toward the Knicks, that the location and production of the entire spectacle except for whatever decision would come out of LeBron's mouth was controlled by ESPN. ESPN honored LeBron's camp's request for Jim Gray to conduct the interview, and then paid for his hotel and his plane tickets to get to Greenwich.
If anyone has any other questions about it please let me know I'd be happy to put down any more nonsense.

If anyone has any other questions about it please let me know I'd be happy to put down any more nonsense.
so basically, you've just proven that it wasn't LeBron's idea. ESPN coming to Maverick Carter and LeBron going with the idea DOES NOT EQUAL LeBron coming up with the idea and going to ESPN with it.

Absolute bull****. The dude quit plain and simple. Anyone with half a brain could see that. I keep hearing it's all about business, well then, his business sucked, because he was getting top dollar to perform REGARDLESS the situation any of you can conjur up.
You guys keep worshiping this guy for taking less money to win. Hilarious. Why didn't he take less money before in Cleveland to win, clear some cap so other players could be brought in? Because it was all about him that's why.
So the Cavs weren't as good as the Lakers...that makes them a bad team. Guess that makes EVERYONE a bad team the last couple years. Several of those Cavs were brought in at LeBron's request. So I guess not only is he a quitter, he's a lousy talent evaluator, and he's a lousy leader.

Interestingly enough, the two seasons ago the Cavs lost to the Magic... a team who's #2 and #3 options were Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu, the point guard was Skip to My Lou.
It's understandable that James wants to go play with another superstar in Wade... and noone should have a problem with that.
However, James should stop being compared to Jordan... or really be put on the same level as Kobe. Instead a more apt comparision for James should be the #2 guys.. like James Worthy and Scottie Pippen.
Now James doesn't have to be repsonsible for end games heroics, as he seems to have that desire to be the 2nd option.

I'm actually pretty interested in how this will be perceived in, say, ten years. I like LeBron and always thought he got a bum rap in Cleveland, but, having said that, I think history will always view the Heat as D-Wade's team. Kind of an A-Rod and Jeter scenario.

I don't get all the Pippen stuff.
I mean, I understand LeBron can play the point forward position, which Pippen too played..... and I understand that Pippen was 2nd fiddle to Jordan and LeBron opted essentially for the same thing...
But the comparisons kind of end there.
LeBron is a much more prolific scorer than Pippen, and Pippen's defense is on another level of James....
And I'll say this about Pip. He always wanted to be the guy. Its just he spent the prime of his career on a team that happened to have arguably the GOAT, and he couldn't. He didn't "opt" to play 2nd fiddle, he was traded for by Krause (thank you Krause), and then stayed in Chicago until the breakup (sarcastic thank you, Krause)
I still remember the game against the Knicks post MJ retirement (the original), and Jackson drew up a last second play for Kukoc to take the game winner. Pippen was livid and refused to enter the game. Kukoc went on to hit the game winner, Pippen drew a lot of hate (deserving so) for that action.... but it was clear Pippen had the will to be "that guy." He just never had the opportunity with Jordan around.

It wasn't that. He looked like a joke all the way around - he really took on a good bit of the Rasheed Wallace personality when he was out there.
Anyone that willingly goes to play with Damon Stoudemire and Rasheed Wallace gets knocked down a notch in my book.
