Bengals want answer, lower price from T.O.
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 26, 2010 8:41 PM ET
With the Rams out of the mix, the Bengals are once again the only team going after Terrell Owens. Just like March.

With that in mind, the Bengals are trying to close the deal fast. They made an official offer on Monday, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, and the team is hoping an answer comes in the next 48 hours before training camp starts. The problem here looks like Owens' price tag.

"There's a reason why the Rams pulled out of the TO bidding -- the asking price hasn't come down," Reedy writes.

The Bengals like to waste money on wide receivers, but it's ridiculous if they don't get Owens at a discount. The team burnt $10 million on Laveranues Coles last year and invested huge money into Antonio Bryant, about whom the Bengals coaching staff now feels "lukewarm," according to Adam Schefter.

Paying Owens over $5 million would be throwing good money after bad.

T.O. is stupid if he doesn't go there. he will not get a better offer from a better team with that kind of QB.

If your answer is 'yes', repeat after me: "It's all ESPN's fault".

The Jets have contacted Owens' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and have debated the idea of bringing the high-profile wide receiver to training camp.
A deal between the Jets and Owens still is considered a longshot; one person estimated the Jets' chances at signing the high-profile wide receiver at "20 percent."

When Chris Henry died I told some friends that is where TO will end up.

I thought when they signed Antonio Bryant, they'd be set at receiver.

It boggles my mind how much talent that kid had, yet he could never really put it all together.

But I'll always love him for absolutely abusing Fred Smoot time and time again.

Ochocinco, Bryant and TO all on the same team crying for the ball. Could be entertaining. If the Bengals add TO that will be yet another nail in the coffin of Matt Jones.

If Rea Carruth suddenly got released from prison the Bengals would probably try to sign him to

They have quite the collection of rejects now, shame they're not on hard knocks this year TO vs pacman 2 would be funny

PFT: T.O. hints at his current asking price
Posted by Mike Florio on July 27, 2010 1:23 PM ET
It has long been rumored that receiver Terrell Owens wants $5 million in 2010. Whether that was his initial target isn't known. But a new target is coming into view.

$3.25 million.

The number can be gleaned from T.O.'s recent comments to TMZ, in which Owens says he wants a "fair deal," that "everything is negotiable," that he knows what he made last year ($6.5 million), and that he'd "maybe cut that in half."

Though TMZ continues to push Cincinnati as the ultimate destination for Owens, our guess is that the Bengals aren't willing to pay him $3.25 million. Moreover, we're not sure how TMZ can continue to claim that the Bengals and Owens are "very close" to a deal four days after first making that assertion, especially if -- as TMZ now acknowledges -- the two sides have yet to agree on money.

Frankly, if the two sides were indeed "very close" to a deal on Friday, it would have meant that they were "very close" to an agreement regarding money on Friday. The fact that four days have passed without a deal being done suggests that, while the Bengals obviously are interested, they've yet to put enough on the table to persuade T.O. to quit looking for two birds in the bush.
