View Full Version : Irvin already stirring the pot down here in Miami

He bascially said yesterday on his first day that Marino never let Jimmy try to help him, and that the friction between Jimmy and Marino was Dan's fault. Later in the day Kevin Kiley said Marino was never a superstar Qb.
This prompted a spirited debate between Irvin and Orlando Alzaguary the host between 10-12. Alzaguary really took Irvin to school and hammered Jimmy. It was really great radio. Neither man backed down from their points and it was spirited an intense. Irvin wasted no time ruffling the feathers of the south Florida audience.

Ding.
Hey Kevin what can we do to generate ratings?
Why don't we get into an argument with the locals about how their ONLY ICONIC SUPERSTAR wasn't really that good?
Sounds good man.

Thats exactly what he was hired to do. Make no mistake, his first few days or weeks will be scripted to cause a stir and get people listening. When I say scripted, I mean topics will be brought up knowing he will take a controversial view or say something that will ruffle feathers in the area.

This is good. Marino is looked upon as untouchable in Miami, but he always gave me the impression he was a difficult prima donna.

Yeah, Galloway is always saying how Marino is the most overrated QB in history... It's straight from Jimmy.
Sounds the Jimster found another one to spread the word in Irvin.
Which is totally lame, because Marino is one of the best QBs I've ever seen.

This.
He and Elway without Terrell Davis are the epitome of why The Ring Argument is utterly stupid.

Not true in TEAM SPORTS.
You have football confused with Golf, Tennis, etc.

Marino might be the greatest QB to never win a championship. Miami never really had the team to win it all; they were always lacking something. It was like Denver with Elway for so many years; they always got their butts handed to them in the SB. It was not until they got Terrel Davis and a solid D that they won the big one.

I see this from people on this board all the time but here is my challenge to you. Go back and look at the offensive stats on the teams he has been on and then come back here and tell me how bad he was. At least 4 times that I can think of, his teams have been in the top 5 of the NFL. Yes, he had a noodle arm when he got here but that doesn't detract from how good he was while flying under the radar for his entire career.

I'm too young for the 80's, but off the top of my head Kareem Abdul Jabar and Jon Avery come to mind.
...Oh wait, you said great RB. He had none. Abdul Jabar was the ONLY Marino runningback to rush for over 1,000 yards.

He didn't call him great, he called him a superstar. And please don't tell me that Dan wasn't a superstar or I will have to lose all creditability for your opinions....:laugh2:

I remember stories being told of Jimmy wanting a more run-oriented offense, but Marino would have none of it. Of course, the Dolphins had a hard time getting a good running back to augment an aging Marino.
If then was now when good running backs are a dime a dozen, Marino might have gotten his ring.

On any given day, have you ever noticed that, at the conclusion of conversations with friends or co-workers, they (for whatever reason) rest their face in the palm of their hand..? Or experience seizures..? Or try running over you with their vehicle..?

I think Irvin might be one of the worst talk radio hosts of all time. He doesnt know anything about any sport but football. Maybe he has a better chance of success in Florida where he won't have to compete against the Ticket.

Ahh, I don't think his listeners are tuning in for his analogy on baseball or hockey...

Obviously not. All I'm saying is he is a one trick pony which over the long haul doesn't work in sports talk radio.
