Doesn't really fit, but I HATE it when people say "decimated" when they mean annihilated or destroyed completely. Decimated means a reduction of 10%.

I'll add this one that seems to be oversued - " it is what it is "

Where did you get this 10% stuff? That isn't correct at all. 10% damage wouldn't be the absolute minimum to be considered decimation, but I don't even think that is acceptable number by classification anymore.

His definition refers to the Roman army's practice of discipline where every 10th man was killed as punishment for a group.

Decimation (Latin: decimatio; decem = "ten") was a form of military discipline used by officers in the Roman Army to punish mutinous or cowardly soldiers. The word decimation is derived from Latin meaning "removal of a tenth."

A unit selected for punishment by decimation was divided into groups of ten; each group drew lots (Sortition), and the soldier on whom the lot fell was executed by his nine comrades, often by stoning or clubbing. The remaining soldiers were given rations of barley instead of wheat and forced to sleep outside of the Roman encampment.

Because the punishment fell by lot, all soldiers in the group were eligible for execution, regardless of the individual degree of fault, or rank and distinction.

Regardless, the word "decimate" still has multiple meanings and one of those is, "to cause great destruction or harm".

I figured as much, but it's no longer used in that context. (meaning one of every 10)

Man, they were brutal in the past, and that in comparison isn't brutal. When an uprising would happen, the King of England would massacre an entire town as punishment. None of that one in 10 bull**** for him. I'm not even going to mention the atrocities the Third Reich set forth.

I hate the slang "Solid" in the form of "Do me a solid". That sounds just as stupid as it is.

I also hate "{team} Nation" except when applied to Raider Nation since they were the first to use it. Everyone else attempting to use it is as bad as any other team trying to claim the name America's Team.

Both are extremely LAME.

One term that irks me is when people say "Guac" instead of "Guacamole". For whatever reason, people have been saying it around here quite a bit lately.
