hey is there a way to get the games from your DVR to a DVD burner? does the NFL encrypt the data so you it wont play once you burn it?

yep.
Just hook it up to a capture device on your pc.
Then take that file and burn it to disc.

do a search for capture devices. There are tons of them.
Some are usb, some are pci cards etc.
they all do the same thing.
there is only 1 HD one that I know of though made by happauge. Its hdmi and captures as h.264

so i record the program, hook up the laptop to the dvr via double ended usb, start the capture program, play back the program from the dvr, then take the file and write the dvd is that right?

No.
You need to get a capture device. the capture device will hook to your compture via pci card..internal....or usb.
Then you will take the dvr and plug it into the s-video or /yellow/red/black inputs on the device and record.
then take that and burn it.

or get a dvd recorder, that can record anything on tv (while it plays). all you have to do is play it from your dvr and record. just don't change the channel or cut tv off.

I have a DVD recorder hooked up to my DVR and when I watch the show, I just hit record on the DVD recorder as long as I have a blank dvd in I'm good to go.

Yep. YOu can just pause the recording until the show comes back on. And with the DVR it's real simple.
