Dilfer laughs in Cowherd's face about Red Zone (http:// sblog.blogspot.com/2010/08/dilfer-laughs-in-cowherds-face-about.html)
Trent Dilfer is one of my favorite ESPN guys these days and it's not only because of this...

Colin Cowherd is a guy who loves to trash the Cowboys when things are not going well.
And it was so awesome to hear Dilfer laughing in his face on this one!

Indeed.

Cowherd is just another one of those guys who loves to hear himself, and is arrogant enough to think he's always right. I do like listening to him because I think he makes a number of good points. He's (usually) able to see through the myths and typical ways of thinking that most fans don't, and provide a pretty rational explanation of things...except when it comes to the Cowboys. Then he's just as biased as anyone else.

I remember listening to Cowherd during the week leading up to the big Cowboys/Packers matchup in 2007. Colin figured out that the Packers' 3rd down conversion rate was higher than the Cowboys'. So that meant the Packers were for real and they were a good team and a contender and the Cowboys sucked and had no chance against the Packers.
Everybody's wrong sometimes, and in hindsight sometimes it can be a little embarrassing that your rationale was so far off. But it was such a strange statistical bit of trivia to base a prediction on. And I might be wrong, but I think the Cowboys kicked *** on 3rd down in that game.

Don't tell the Coward, but Troy Aikman wore his hat backwards in the 1992 training camp.

He also said the Falcons would go 14-2 every yr and win multiple super bowls with Mike Vick at QB.
I find it very hard to listen to Cowherd, he does do good interviews, but really seems to blow his own horn needlessly while just waffling on to himself. But the real hard part is listening to that lisp. How does he get a job in radio with that speech impediment? I know any ESPN podcast seems to accentuate peoples S's, but his are out of control. He sound like Sylvester the cat!
Check it out, "Sufferin' succotash! I'm a mother!" so on the money it's scary.

I like Cowherd a lot better than the alternative (Rome). But yeah, he obviously says things at times to generate response.
Also . . . I really enjoy Dilfer, and I think he's one of the better guys out there in the business, but he really let me down last year. He said that there was no way Minne would be able to handle our pass rush, and that Farve would struggle all day. He had the right scenario, but wrong team.

:laugh2: at fans bashing Cowherd. The Cowboys have no super bowls and one playoff win in a decade and a half. Homers should accept that generally speaking, the negative critics have been right about the Cowboys over that period.
Dilfer's big on Romo and the Cowboys in general. You can find 10 ex-players just like him with a different opinion. Yet because he thinks Dallas is a SB team, his opinion is more valid? I like Dilfer and hope he's right, but because he's pro-Cowboy he gets sainthood status with some of you.
While Cowherd is overvaluing what we see in preseason, his overall point is correct. The Cowboys had a difficult time in the red zone last year, and if they don't improve, they probably aren't sniffing the SB.
Sometimes the truth sucks.

To stereotype and further insult no where cultivates an appreciation of sport and one's team no matter how high brow one wishes to pontificate in similar vein...as to gathering buffalo chips for a fire. Well, let's leave that for yourself, and oh yea, Cowherd.

Even he admits he's a hybrid celebrity/TMZ/sports guy. He's a superficial front runner who cheers for the big name teams because they're big names. If he gets anything right, it's the equivalent of a stopped clock being right twice a day.
And yes, Dilfer was absolutely correct to laugh at him for using a few series in preseason as evidence that any team is going to do the same thing in the regular season.

Doesn't change the fact that Cowboy detractors have been right about the team for years, and that homer fans jump to bash them, no matter how often they've eventually been right about the team.
While Dilfer is right about not putting much stock in preseason games, listen to him over the next month: he'll do the same thing himself. Lots of espn/nfl/etc ananlysts will do the same. And as soon as some of those analysts praise the Cowboys for something they see in pre-season, hide and watch a legion of homers jump on it as validity for how good the team is.

Not only inserting a foot in one's own mouth, but adjusting the heel to ensure it fits adequately as well.....if crying about a supposed draught in Lombardis ONLY, maybe a fan would bid his time AFTER already winning FIVE of them. you might be right but it doesn't change the fact that Cowherd is an obnoxious buffoon that gibbers endlessly and can't tell the truth from a hole in the ground. He's the stereotypical pontificator who's in love with the sound of his own voice above anything and doesn't watch more than 3 games in their entirety all year, instead making a living interpreting highlights and regurgitating the barely opinions of analysts who are only barely more expert than him, if nearly as loud and self congratulatory.

I'll tell you why Colin Cowherd will never impress me as a media member. It has nothing to do with the Dallas Cowboys.
A couple of years ago a movie came out called "Good Night, and Good Luck." It is the story of Edward R. Murrow.
Colin Cowherd admitted on the air that he had never heard of the man. Understand something, if you have never heard of him that is one thing. But for a man in radio reporting to have never heard of him is quite another.
This is like saying you are an architect and have never heard of Frank Lloyd Wright. Or a golfer and have never heard of Ben Hogan. Or a painter and have never heard of Monet. Or a writer and have never heard of Hemingway.
It is mind boggling to me that he would not know of a pioneer in his chosen profession. It doesn't make you look too intelligent to admit to such idiocy.
I actually sent him an e-mail that day. I have never taken him seriously since that day and probably never will. He's not a reporter, he's a parrot.

Great stuff . When you said Dilfer laughed in Colin's face (ear), I figured it would be somewhat mild and basically amount to nothing. But after listening to the audio, Trent literally laughed his *** off at Cowterd. Blatantly if you will. Great stuff.
And did you here that ladies and gentlemen? Even if the Cowboys struggle a few games early in the season in the redzone, it still doesn't mean the sky is going to come crashing down. This coming from a former QB who knows a little bit about football.

Wow...yeah he really did laugh in his face...or at least his ear.
Trent Dilfer is awesome. He always backs up the Cowboys against the media onslaught, and tells it like it is. He doesn't go over the top or exaggerate either...but he often comes across as a homer on;y because the other media are so slanted in the opposite direction.
It's funny how pre-season games never count for anything UNLESS Dallas does something poorly...Good for Trent for reminding Cowherd of the obvious.
