Hey, everyone, newsflash: We aren't winning the Superbowl if our backup QB has to play.
Of course that isn't true for the Saints, Colts, Patriots, Chargers, Vikings, or Jets. Their backup QBs are awesome.

I think both of you guys are right.
We are capable of completely shutting down any pass rush. Especially at home.
We are also very capable of giving Romo terrible protection.
Our O-line has got to get better at showing awareness in pass protection though.
I hope Garrett isn't affraid to use a shorter passing game this year. A lot of the preseason routes I have seen have been longer throws.

Same here. And Archer and MacMahon want to keep six safeties? That's crazy.

I agree with you. Why would you cut that speed, and McCann is 22 years old. It would be crazy to cut that speed and potential (possible slot CB in a year or 2 IMO) and keep a safety who isn't fast.
You can't teach McCann's speed.
I don't like keeping 6 safeties, either.
They better run a 4.4, and I don't think either of them does.
The fastest way to get AOA on the field (IMO) is to play him as the slot CB or at SS.
IMO, the Cowboys will have a void to fill at SS next year. AOA is going to have a year in the weight room to get stronger, and he can do all the things that the Cowboys ask Gerald Sensabaugh to do in coverage.

I think we keep McCann. McCray and Church are battling each other. McCann fights for the ball. Wall is a goner. Kid got knocked on his butt on a special teams play last night.
There are going to be tough cuts.
I see some people saying we keep 10 LB's.
We don't have 60 roster spots.

You know CBs are tough to come by, and some team will look to continue to develop him if Dallas cuts him, imo.
I just can't see justifying keeping 6 safeties, especially with the speedy McCann at CB.

Well McCray looks like an incredible special teams guy. Thats why it is so tough.
I'd cut the guy I felt like I could sneak onto my practice squad if I were Dallas.

I like his flash plays. But he needs to be more consistent. We can get those flash plays from Bowen.

Amplifying my point. NFL sack leaders.
1. Minnesota...48
2. Pittsburgh...47
3. Miami, San Fran, & Philly...44
Game 1...Philly (11-5 and a playoff team) sacked Romo 4 times. That is above their season average. Yet we handled them 20-16 after a deep pass to Miles Austin.
Game 2...Philly sacked Romo 2 times in a game to determine the NFC East crown. They were 11-4 going into this game. We were 10-5. We were supposedly soft while they were battle tested and tough. 24-0.
Game 3, playoffs...Philly sacked Romo 2 times. If you remember, there was no way we coudl 3 sweep them. There was no way they'd lose 2 in a row to the same team. They didn't show anything in the 2nd game and held it in reserve for this game. Blah blah blah. 34-14.
My point, Dallas can handle a good pass rush and win a football game. The Minnesota game is not systemic of an evident flaw. Minnesota outplayed them that day and was the better team. No problem admitting that.

I've thought the exact opposite to be honest, it looked like almost everything was little dink and dunk stuff inside 10 yds...they've had an occasional guy clear out deep, but most of the routes have seemed to be short to me...look at the passes intended for Austin, Witten, RW and Crayton...there's only been one ball intended for Witten that I recall that was over 10 yds downfield all preseason...almost everything to RW has been short slants/outs...Austin has run mostly short routes

So what else is new?
First, I understand your views on thoughs about weakness in our offensive line. However, I disagree with you, while I agree with DC Fanatic and Broaddus. Why do I say that? Here is my reply!
1. 2007 Playoff game Cowboys Giants, (we couldnt handle their pass rush 2nd half.
2. 2008 last game of season against Eagles, (couldnt handle their pass rush and blitzes).
3. 2009 season
A, Denver game, (couldnt handle their pass rush due to the fact I think we
havent seen their defense before and our coaching staff didnt have our
offensive line ready).
B. Chargers game, again against a really good team, couldnt handle their blitzes and pass rush by our offensive line. You have said it yourself several times here Hostile, that Gurode & Bigg Leonard Davis werent pulling their weight.
C Vikings game, (having not seen their team and our offensive line not ready, as well as possibly our coaching staff, the vikes ripped us big time, just like the eagles last game of season in 2008. (Note the steelers did the same thing to us, in 2008, with us not having seen them before).
D. Same thing happened again against Chargers Saturday night, blitz packages and rush.
4. So, seems like to me, what DC and Broaddus were saying has some merit. Just like you said the eagles miss their great defensive coordinator, and Jason Garrett outmatched their young defensive coordinator. If you remember one play, where Romo said Trotter go on over there, something like that, we know what your going to do and blitz from.
So, I think its a combination of 2 things, our coaching staff that hasnt seen a new team in a while that we havent played, gives us fits, when we arent ready. And our players keep making the same old mistakes. How many times have we seen on a loop like chargers did last night, and go right by gurode and Leonard Davis. You would think afterawhile Gurode and Davis would be ready to handle that. Just maybe also what former Cowboy Brian Baldinger said that some of our offensive linemen are dumb.
We all know how when we lost Kosier in 2008 and we suffered somewhat. Kosier has been known to make alot of calls.
However, Gurode and Davis have been long enough in the league to see these blitz formations, heck like DC said last night Hostile, Kosier makes most of the line calls. What is Gurode doing?
I do agree with you about our offensive line not being a big mashing type line, we dont do that in practice, slug it out, smash mouth football, so how could anyone expect us to be slobber knock football by our offensive line.
And we are slowly changing our big bruising type linemen to more athletic type linemen. While you stated that Gurode and Davis or someone did, both of those players dont have the athletic feet to move like a Kosier or Doug Free.
Just my 2 cents worth.
But we cant keep waiting to play teams like we have the eagles over the past 4-5 years, so we know how to play and beat them. We have to do it now, so our players must step up and our coaching staff must better prepare the players.
And hold the players like Gurode, and Davis accountable.
FYI DC on the feed I had, it was much harder to hear you than the guests. Heard them fine, you sounded like you were doing the show in a cave somewhere on the other side of the world. Wow I admire Hos for his knowledge and standing his ground and arguing, it got contentious. Compelling radio. I am in the camp with you and Broaddus that the O Line leaves alot to be desired, and if the team under achieves, it will be because of them.

Yeah, he flashes, but you are right about his consistency.
Bowen is the guy Dallas will want to keep (imo), but he plays Olshanky's position. That is going to be interesting, because you are looking at drafting a couple of defensive ends, imo, and you need one to start. Bowen is the youngest player with the best upside, between Spears, Hatcher, and Bowen.
Bowen is they guy who causes problems by putting pressure on the QB.

Good point about McCray on special teams. I could be wrong, but getting McCann to the practice squad will probably be very risky.
Hostile mentioned something about Barron getting the boot.
It's funny how Broaddus was impressed with Brewster's game at RT and LT, and now Barron is suddenly back at practice.
Dallas didn't call his his injury a "high ankle" sprain, either.

I don't think he was "very impressed". He just said he didn't emberass himself.
He had a little leakage on 1st down and goal on the Felix carry after the turnover.

No. I just read his Scout's Eye.
Broaddus stated that he was "impressed" with Brewster's ability to play both sides in the same game and hold his own or "without struggling a great deal". Also, he mentioned Brewster's pop in the running game.
Broaddus stated that it wasn't pretty from a technique standpoint, but heck, Colombo's play has been described as "not pretty".
Brewster's technique and footwork will improve.
His footwork took a nice step forward in this game.
Someone needs to get that up on here.
Broaddus' Scout's Eye is in the Daily Zone.

I disagree Hostile, and i agree with DC and Broaddus.
Back to phily, how many years have they beat our butt but good. Pretty well last 8 years or so with McNabb.
After Jimmy Johnson eagles defensive coordinator died, their pass rush declined, along with them losing their star safety
So again, here is why I agree with DC and b broaddus;

We cant expect to wait and play vikings next 4 to 5 years and finally after we know all of their plays excect to beat them.
We must have better coaching against teams we dont know, and players must play more assertive and pay attention to details like Gurode & Davis.
Just like i stated above, we all know Kosier calls most of line plays etc, why isnt gurode doing that, all great centers do that.
The amount of money Gurode & Davis got, they shouldnt keep allowing these same old blitzes, and loops get by them for sacks and pressures.
And our coaches shouldnt let them get away with it either.
