View Full Version : Clayton Just Said It Again....Bledsoe to Dallas

John Clayton believes that Drew Bledsoe is coming to Dallas. He stated it again this morning on Mike and Mike. He also thinks Vinny may go to the Jets and that Quincy might end up back with the Jets.

Dallas will make moves in FA this year, but I believe they will be carefully calculated. It is my understanding that the Cowboys had the 2nd lowest payroll in the NFL last season, while generating the 2nd highest revenue. While this gives them flexibility, I believe the Cowboys will attempt to maintain significant room under the cap to retain key players as the team progresses.

Both of this year's superbowl teams are classic examples of success through drafting well and highlight the absolutely abysmal draft record the Cowboys have had until recently. There have been a number of posts on this board that have stated how critical this offseason is to Cowboy hopes as we move forward. I agree with this. If we are to have any hope of being competitive with the Eagles, we must make significant strides this off-season.
We simply MUST settle the qb position this winter. My second priority is the defense, both the front seven and the secondary.

The place in FA that the Cowboys might be able to come up with a long term solution is at safety. I'm not trying to pick a specific candidate but good players seem to be able to enjoy extended careers at this position.

So are the Cowboys going to be picking up a "new" old QB every year?

Bledsoe isn't the answer. And Vinny sure isn't either.

Go with the young guy, take your lumps, see if he can do anything and see what happens. We're not a playoff team anyway.

Have you even heard what the Eagles have planned? There was a short bit in the Pro Bowl where McNabb had been asked about Muhammid and Shaun Alexander. I'm here to tell you that if that happens then the Eagles will win it all next year. Oh by the way, the Eagles can probably afford it too. How depressing! :banghead:

Of all the prognosticators, I find Clayton to be the biggest BS artist.
Listening to him or reading his opinions is like looking at the mock drafts and seeing some have us pick Aaron Rogers at 11.

"Uh duh, uh... well. The cowboys need a QB cause that testaverde guy sucks.
Here's a QB that hasn't been taken. Let's stick him with the Cowboys. yeah that looks good."

There's no real depth of thought in his statements. Just something to write on a slow news day.

This morning on ESPN radio John Clayton that Bledsoe will be a Cowboy this year. He said Parcells Knows what Bledsoe can do and Bledsoe will come in and be able to do some things especially getting the deep passing game going. He said bringing in Bledsoe will upgrade the Q spot and make it 10 years younger than last year. He also said that Parcells does not have much confidence in Henson and he thinks Bledsoe WILL be a Cowboy!!!!!

Am I saying Bledsoe will not be a Cowboy, NO. I do think it is very possible.

BUT, John Clayton does not know anything more than you or I. Personally I think he is the worst in the industry.

I have no idea how he keeps his job.

I would simply ignore the last statment about Henson, because Clayton does not know.

I know a lot of people on the board don't want him, but to be honest he is an established NFL QB. He will have Witten, Key, JJ, and Glenn on Offense, that is a better supporting cast than Eddie and VT. I believe if Dallas can grab a young WR in the Draft, plus Bledsoe, and some OL help the Dallas Offense would be on fire.

This doesn't surprise me a bit... with Vinny opining for a move back to New York, this gives Bill an opportunity to bring another veteran in without dissing one of his old guys...

I agree that this offense could be good w/ Bledsoe. I do believe that Parcells has little confidence in anyone on this team after last season. Maybe Witten and JJ.

Looks that way.

It's such a smart way to run and rebuild a franchise, don't you think?

We would need the offensive line we had back during our 90s superbowl run for Bledsoe to be effective, he is less mobile then Vinny and the last few years has more often then not appeared to be shellshocked most of the time and throws the ball away too often rather than take the hit to make a big completion.
We will have an improved O-line this years, just not a superhero one that would be needed to have Bledsoe be effective.
Also, if this happens we all know that Bill will stick with the veteran over the young guy, double that effect when you count Bledsoe as a "Parcells guy" so Henson sits again as we all hear week after week how Bledsoe gives us the "best chance to win". I wanted to puke just writing that phrase.
So when does Henson play and get evaluated, on the last year of his contract so we have to pay even bigger bucks to keep him before we make use of him. Even if Henson proves to be a dissapointment, playing him and finding that out is more valueable long term then another year of stop gap with Bledsoe or Vinny.
As I posted earlier, another thing to consider is Bledsoe wanted out of Buffalo because he doesnt want to be a backup, so he wants to start, that means he is going to want starter money, no bargain with this guy coming in so that eats valuable cap money that we could use in a boatload of other areas.

Hmmm...Clayton said it. That means it likely WON'T happen. Hardly anyone is wrong more than Clayton.

They released him so he must suck; it is human nature to think that way it and means nothing. They got lucky in finding a gem of a QB in the late rounds and they could afford to let an excellent QB go. And Bledsoe was still an excellent QB when he left NE. I think he still is a very good QB with the right system and personnel around him; he was playing very well the later part of the season after things started to gel with the new system and new HC and OC.

"No matter what else, I'll make sure you're protected."

Anyone else remember Bill saying those words to Vinny when he was signed? I think he'd say the same thing to Drew Bledsoe, and I think he would be protected.

I still don't have a clue whether or not Bledsoe is coming in. If he does, I suspect it's what is best for the Cowboys. But I also think that Bledsoe has a lot of good football left in him..and Bill would help him find it.

Actually, it kind of reminds me of when Bill brought Vinny to the Jets back in the late nineties. A lot of folks thought Vinny was done, but Bill helped him reach his peak late in his career.

what? they were trashing him for the past 2 years SOLID, before any chance of a release, Bledsoe sucks, his skills have deteriorated & whats worse is he looks shell shocked,

THe last game agaisnt the steelers, he looked a complete joke, against the steelers backups, with mcgahee tearing it up, Moulds & evans at WR and a line that had started to gel

Bledsoe is done in this league full stop

Bledsoe is not done. He will start for a team next season and it just might be the Cowboys.

Whether we want him to be or not.

Reasons that I believe Bledsoe would be a great fit in Dallas:

1. Familiar with the offense and obviously Parcells
2. A very underrated OL
3. A solid rushing attack with a good receiving FB
4. An outstanding outlet at the TE position
5. A solid possession receiver in Johnson
6. A familiar target in Glenn
7. 8 years younger than VINTerception
8. He is currently better than any other QB on the roster (whether you guys want to believe it or not it is true)
9. He would likely take less money to play in Dallas than anywhere else.

Now take apart what I said, and make it seem like it doesnt make a lot of sense.

I dont want to hear about mobility or shell-shocked. Because he is as mobile as he needs to be. At least as mobile as Vinny, and if any QB should be shell-shocked it should be Vinny, after years and years of never being able tyo get the job done.

Guys, don't give people the incentive to revive this thread should Bledsoe be signed as a free agent. There are so many people here who could be eating crow. It wouldn't suprise me at all if we signed Bledsoe. They just mentioned again on ESPN.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Drew here next season. I think he's a slight upgrade over Vinny, but certainly isn't anything special at this point of his career. His performance increased over the second half of last season, but he has been a target for sacks over the years and isn't the player he once was. His TD-INT ratio (20/16) was certainly better than anything we've had here in a while, albeit not that great itself.

Our OL was terrible this season. Let's pray injured rookie Peterson and nonplaying rookie Jacobs can contribute this year. We need to fortify both our OL's and DL's this draft and in free agency (if possible).

That's how I feel about it. I don't want Bledose or Testaverde but I know Bill wants a veteran leading this team. If I had to pick between the better of two evils, I'm going with Bledsoe. Yes, he is a statue but you can always punt on 4th and 20. That's better than Vinny throwing an interception inside our 50 and guarantee our opponent a field goal at least.

Good way to put it. I'd definitely rather punt than watch Vinny hand the game over to the other team with his infamous, multiple pick games.

LOL...classic. I just want Drew to start...Bledsoe sets us back another year. We do need another vet...that's a given, but I feel BP will go with Bledsoe with all competition being close. I hope not, but my gut tells me that.

Well, by the time Henson starts - Oh, that would be when he's TWENTY NINE - then maybe he'll be old enough to be a Parcells Guy. And we can go through a couple of growing pain-ful seasons with a twenty-nine year old.

Here's what we know.

1) JJ can carry the rock.
2) Bledsoe loves TEs, especially Coates.
3) Coates worked with Witten last offseason.

Bledsoe: 20 TD 16 INT 37 sacks 76.6 rating 32 years old
Vinny T: 17 TD 20 INT 34 sacks 76.4 rating ?carbon dated?

I'm not slobbering all over Bledsoe, but he took 14 sacks in a two game span before McGahee started getting carries. Give him a running game like ours, an awesome TE like Witten, and Adams' holding calls and he may stay upright more than norm.
