View Full Version : Bledsoe!?! What about Henson?

We gave up a 3rd rounder for Henson. He's supposed to be able
to "make all the throws", have incredible instincts, be a brilliant decision-maker... yada yada.
Cowboys fans have waited patiently and impatiently for this guy to
start being worked "into the mix". (Oh man, am I getting sick of this phrase!)
Bledsoe leaving Buffalo means that he wants to start. The Buffalo
front office wanted him to stay at a reduced salary to act as the
mentor for Losman. This means if he comes here he's going to be
our starter. Ugh... Bledsoe. :shatfan:
Drew Bledsoe the starting Quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. That's the worst sentence I've had to write in years. :ralph:
Haven't we waited long enough? At some point this season I remember hearing Parcells compare Henson to Hostetler, the old Giants backup QB. I hated that comparison because Parcells made that guy sit on the bench for like 5 years before he let him play. Is that what Parcells has in mind for Henson?
We don't need another over-the-hill, big name - no ability left, has-been castoff coming in to Dallas expecting to start the season. Why doesn't Bill look up Tony Banks or some other BUM like that?
Buffalo is finding out about the future with Losman. The Giants are moving forward with their future with Eli, and it started panning out for them at the end of the season, when Eli started playing significantly better.
Testaverde has NO problem being a mentor or a backup. Why give up on the future by bringing in Bledsoe to start and keeping Henson in moth balls? Is the plan to start Bledsoe this year and then start Henson next year? What if Henson really does suck? Are we going to draft another QB in 2007 to replace Henson? Or are we going to let Henson stink the place up for 2 years and draft somebody in 2008 who will start in 2010?
I don't think I'm alone in saying I'm tired of lame duck seasons.
Keep Testaverde, start Henson.
Let's get the future started this September.

Bring in any good QB's who can make the team...that makes us better.
May the best man win...I don't care which.

Agreed....if Henson is as good as many hopes he is...then sooner or later he will win the job.
But to take the chances of only having Henson, Romo and some other nobody on the roster is really just that...taking a chance.
At the very least we need at least one established starter or backup to take over if the starter struggles.
Once again, if Henson is as good as many of us hopes he is, then the creme will rise to the top.

I would rather take the chance we are going to suck than KNOW we are going to suck.

when henson is ready he will get his shot.just how many 3rd rnd qb's do you know of who start there 2nd year? not to mention being out of the game so long.henson is just simply not ready.if he was you would not have got him for a 3rd rnd pick.think about this, would houston have gave us henson a starter ready nfl qb for a 3rd rnd puick? i think we are to wrapped up in wanting instant reward and life does'nt work that way

I totally agree, but we are talking Bill here...will he give Henson a fair shot??? That's what scares me...
I'm really not against having Bledsoe here at all, but I sure hope Bill will be honest and start Henson if he's ready...having Bledsoe as a backup waiting is a great situation...

Call me a cockeyed optimist, but...somewhere in the back of my head, I think BP may see that Henson is the guy, and has been spending time with him to truly get him prepared for next season. Hey, it took Brady a year on the side lines learning, listening, working with BB and Charlie Weiss, and look at him now.
Positive thoughts. :)

True BP
But going with Pete Hunter and alot of late round draft picks at Right Corner is taking a chance? Going with a 40+ year old quarterback and 2 back ups with zero snaps in a game is taking a chance? Going with a 2nd round pick, Jones, who many questioned and Eddie George in the backfield is taking a chance? Keith Davis and Dixon at Strong Safety is taking a chance?
I say go with Henson and go after a veteran with a lower profile than Drew Bledsoe.
Im ready to start being like the 9 out of 12 playoff teams and the team that ultimately won it all, who go to battle with the quarterback they drafted and grew into their system.

Man stop using logic you will just confuse the lot of them...you must learn to drone..."Bledsoe to Dallas", "Bledsoe to Dallas", "Bledsoe to Dallas", "Bledsoe to Dallas", now while droning be sure it is loud enough that no logic can be heard..."Bledsoe to Dallas", "Bledsoe to Dallas", "Bledsoe to Dallas"
there now doesn't it feel good;)

If you are someone who ripped Parcells for sticking with Vinny while keeping Henson on the bench, then you have to be against us signing Bledsoe. If Parcells is truly enamored with "his guys", Bledsoe will become Bill's new/old toy to start at QB in order to "win now" while Henson (and Romo) remain clipboard holders.

You want to compare a DB with a QB????
Futhermore how many people complained last year when we went into the season with only Vinney as a QB with EXP?....yet now it is ok to let the young guys have a shot yet have no vet backup???
Furthermore you speak about teams that had QBs they drafted....we did not draft Romo or Henson...We signed Romo as an undrafted rookie, and traded for Henson.

I believe that He will indeed give Henson a fair shot....I do not believe all the conspiracy theories vs Bill.
However I will also believe that Henson will not beat out Drew by the time the season starts and then there will be those that claimed bill is only picking Bledsoe.
Funny thing some of the guys here that talk about Bill's Guys....Henson was brought in because BILL PARCELLS wanted to make the trade...so he is a Bill Guy.
Odd.

Just because Bledsoe may want to be a starter does not mean that will happen for him no matter where he may end up going. When you get towards the end of your career you have a lot less say so about your role. Drew may find out if he wants to remain in the league he very well may have to take a backup role

I just think we should re-sign Vinny if Bledsoe is the only alternative...that's all.
As for me, I'm not a conspiracy theorist on this issue. I'm just saying that there was a rather significant group of posters toward the end of last season who repeatedly said that Parcells was "in love" with Vinny because he played for him in the past and that he wouldn't give Henson a real chance until Vinny was out of the picture.
I'm just wondering where all those guys are now (i.e. Quicksilver, Rcaldw, et al) opposing a potential Bledsoe signing???

I'm at the point where I would be willing to watch Henson develop. Yes, it's bad for the short term, but I'm trying to look at the bigger picture, and that picture involves the Cowboys having an established quarterback without question marks that we can build around for the future.
Honestly, we're more than just a veteran quarterback away from a Superbowl anyways! So it doesn't even make sense to plug that hole with Bledsoe. I can understand Bill's desire to win now, because he doesn't have that much time left. The cost of this philosophy is stunting our future.
*posted in another thread, but there are so many bledsoe posts*

I am one of those guys and I don't want Bledsoe here. He's just a younger Vinny. I certainly don't want Vinny back. I think the solution is they try to sign Kelly Holcomb. I think coming off an injury, he would be willing to be a backup and perhaps play if Henson falters/isn't ready. I doubt he would cost that much after an injury plagued season. I know the injuries make him a risk, but if he is healthy he's the perfect guy to bring in. He shouldn't cost a lot and really has no reason to have a big ego and expectation to start. After all he's only had about half a season where he was great. But he is a serviceable player and that is the key when you are trying to slot a vet behind a young QB. If he has to play he shouldn't kill us in the huddle.

This is more to my point. I'm not saying that there are any conspiracy theories or anything like that. I'm saying that we already have a crappy statue QB. Why spend more money to bring in another one to replace the one we already have?
Keep the hasbeen we have. Let him backup and mentor Henson. why do we need Bledsoe? All he's going to provide is less criticism for Parcells, because he's younger. He's going to hold on to the ball too long and get sacked and possibly fumble. He's not going to make the throws underneath like he couldn't do in Buffalo.
Basically Bledsoe is a combination of Testaverde and Chad Hutchinson. I live in Toronto. I see more Buffalo games than Cowboy games (unfortunately).
Bledsoe is not as good as Testaverde. Give Testaverde Julius all year and a healthy Dan Campbell and Terry Glenn and you've got a performance similar or better than what Bledsoe did in Buffalo, when he had Lee Evans and Mcgahee turn around. So if you keep Testes, you'll have Bledsoe's ability... BUT still no controversy and a GREAT mentor.
Bledsoe to Dallas makes NO sense.
I feel as exasperated as Inmanroshi was when they talked about bringing Eddie George here. Just a complete waste of time.

Not sure. I dont think I was posting here when Mr. Testeverde was signed, so I have no idea. I know I almost got banned on another board for not being on the Vinny Bandwagon, but that's for another day....
I am not comparing the DB position to the QB position. I put out three other situations where Bill Parcells was more then comfortable about taking risks?
I have said this many time. When I am speaking of Free Agents, I mean guys that have some age on them that are looked upon as starters and who will subsequently take away playing time from younger players. In our case, its seems the backups will rarely get on the field, even in blowout situations. Henson and Romo are all young guys (similar to GB picking up Brett Favre after 1 year in Atl), so in this respect, they dont count.
