Is Week 2 too early for a must-win game?

Probably but Wade Phillips raised the sense of urgency of his team today when he met with the players. He accepted the blame for the end-of-half miscue and he told them how important it is to return to form Sunday against Chicago.

"We've got to do better, no matter what," Phillips said. "To get better we've got to attack the mistakes we made and not just go over the mistakes we made but attack the mistakes we made. And we've got to hold together as a team. It's not the end of the world. It seemed like it at the time and I feel like it today, but it's not. We can bounce back from this and we've got to, to have a good team this year that we want to have. We've got to bounce back this week and pick up the pieces and go forward. The only thing you can do anything about is this ballgame and we've got to do something about it. And we've got to do something about it right now."

The Cowboys haven't lost their first two games of a season since 2001 when they finished 5-11. The last time they went 0-2 and made the playoffs came in 1993 when they were missing Emmitt Smith, who was in a contract dispute. Oh, yeah, that team went on to win Super Bowl XXVIII.

I think it is a very important game for the team I do not see it as a do or die game but you clearly do not want to start a season off in an 0-2 hole.

I hate to say it , but it's definitely a must win. They have created this situation for themselves. There are only 16 games and they gave one away. I was not impressed with the Redskins at all Sunday night. What did they do? Nothing. The Cowboys gave it to them and it is not acceptable. They need to make up for it and fast. 1-1 would make us all feel better for a week. 0-2? The Zone would be unbearable and the Dallas/national media would make it a very difficult for the Cowboys to concentrate on game three.

Every game is a must win because of Dallas is in the NFC East... This division is going to be a battle.

Obviously, mathematically it is not a must win. But it is definitely one of the few games that most would have penciled in as a solid "W", and since we've already let one of those get away from us, this one is critical.

I do not think our season would be over at 0-2.
But, nobody wants to be in that situation.

Since 2000, only 8% of teams that have started 0-2 have made the playoffs.

92% of teams that start 0-2 dont make the playoffs!!!!!

How the hell can this game not be a must win??? You automatically lumping us in the 8% group??? Bottom line is that if we lose to the Bears on Sunday we will not make the playoffs in all likelyhood.

Every game including pre-season is a must win based on our fans & weak excuse for local media. To ask the question is #%{%^^. Check SD the last two years.

Wow. Week 2 of a 16 game schedule is now a must win game. Wow!!!!! I suppose we just pack it in should we lose next week. I thought the author was dumb to write such a stupid topic. But now I see why. We have fans that feed the media.
