Improved Defense, Cutler Will Lead Bears

The first regular-season game of the year at Cowboys Stadium finds Dallas running into a team that is in need of a spark.
No such spark was available in 2009 despite the acquisition of a quarterback from which it was hoped a spark would be forthcoming. Things looked promising four games deep into the 2009 season, when the Bears had a 3-1 record and thoughts of the playoffs were prevalent.
Chicago then won just once in a seven-game stretch and the bright expectations turned bleak. Heading into their season opener against Detroit, the traditional promise that comes with a new campaign was tinged by concerns that additional bleak might be just around the corner.
The fact that the Bears went winless in the preseason did not boost the optimism level.
At the center of things - during last season, at the start of this season and for the foreseeable future - is Jay Cutler, the fellow who was counted on for the spark....
