Bruschi in good condition after mild stroke

NFL.com wire reports

BOSTON (Feb. 17, 2005) -- New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi suffered a mild stroke but is walking, talking and in good spirits, the team said.

Bruschi experienced temporary numbness, blurred vision and headaches on Feb. 16 and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

"It has been determined that these symptoms were the results of a mild stroke," team spokesman Stacey James said. "Tedy is in good condition and, as always, his spirits are high. He is walking and talking normally and stressed that he would like to thank everyone for keeping him and his family in their thoughts and prayers."

The Patriots said Bruschi could be released as early as Feb. 18.

"The outpouring of support has been overwhelming and the Bruschi family is very appreciative," James said.

A nine-year NFL veteran, Bruschi is the centerpiece of the Patriots defense that helped the team win three of the past four Super Bowls, including a 24-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 6.

On Feb. 13, Bruschi played in his first Pro Bowl.

Bruschi, 31, was selected as the AFC's Defensive Player of the Week three times, including the first-round playoff victory over the Indianapolis Colts. A second-team Associated Press All-Pro selection, he ranked second on the team with 128 tackles and tied for second with three interceptions.

He had two fumble recoveries in the team's 20-3 playoff win over the Indianapolis Colts, and an interception in the Super Bowl.

You're so right. Imagine the stuff we don't hear. I was watching the Minny-Cleveland game last night and they were saying alot of athletes were playing in much more pain since Vioxx went off the market. They were talking specifically about Garnett at the time. These guys make a living off their body and they put it through so much more than the average person can even comprehend.

I just hope they realize the long term effects of putting all that stuff in their body. Example Alonzo Mourning and his kidney.

Not to say any of this is what happened to Bruschi, of course. JMO I really hope he comes out of this healthy in mind, body and spirit.

Does a mile stroke mean he is done? I mean what team wants to take the chance that he is going to have a major stroke on their team?

At this this point, I kinda think it's not at the top of their list of priorities right now. But if you want to read more spin about it, go to www.pfw.com (http://www.pfw.com) and they discussed some of the Pats options. guys we might be interested in.
