Wonderful! Thanks for nothing!... His gripe was that he was brought here to be a pass rusher but he was consistently replaced on obvious pass rush situations.. but he still didn't provide enough when he was given opportunity

Next question...what is the cap hit on Wiley...does it give us more?

If he could have actually rushed the passer, he never would have been taken out. The guy was atrocious...worse than Shante' and Kavika.

This showed that just because it may look like a good pickup it doesn't always mean it is.

I agree that Wiley was garbage last year.
Was that a result of his ability or the style of defense we play?
I may be wrong, but didn't Wiley thrive in the 3-4 early in his career? If we do swith, could he have helped us?

Answer to question #1: ability.
Answer to question #2: I don't think so... I think it was a 4-3. I may be wrong.
Answer to question #3: absolutely not. Stick a fork in him... he's done.

Answer #1: The answer to that is not known at this point. It could be a combination of both and I think it is. His ability may have degenerated but our style of defense is not DE friendly as far as sacks go. Maybe how he plays with his next team will tell the tale.
Answer #2: I believe that the Bills were still playing a 3-4 when he wasw with them early in his career and he did well in it.
Answer #3: Whether or not he can still help us in a 3-4 defense will depend on the truth of answer #1.

I swear to God that if he goes somewhere else and racks up 8 to 10 sacks I will be extremely upset with Jones for keeping that retard of a defensive coordinator. I'm willing to give him one more year to see if he can improve this thing because Wiley was indeed horrible, but seeing Ekuban go to Cleveland and rack up a decent number of sacks just bothers me.

It saves us $250,000 of cap room. Instead of counting $3.625 million, he'll count $3.375 million in dead money.

One of the worst signings this team has ever made...
Some guys, if you watch them, have the physical skills but they just don't equate to performance on the field...in a sense, Ekuban was like that...he was quick...he was strong...he was athletic...and he did zilch...
Wiley was a different story...from the first time I watched him, I was shocked at how lacking his physical skills were...he's slow...he's VERY unathletic...he'd get blown off the line on running plays...heck, he came her to be a pass rusher and was removed in passing situations..
Good riddance...

Uh.....OUCH...
What the heck...penny wise dollar foolish...we didn't want to ante up for Berry...Wiley was a really bad signing...
Time to move on....

Wiley will sign somewhere next year for minimum salary and will pull an Ekuban. I just know it.

Pretty bad that Dallas is that desperate to get rid of him. Now, I guess we can all start looking for his replacement. My hunch is you'll have to find it in the draft though.

I don't think so...he really doesn't have the physical tools...Ekuban's physical tools were much better than Wiley's...he just never converted them into impact on the field...
Wiley was slow...cumbersome...weak at the point of attack...his physical skills are awful.

Lordy.
Nearly 3.4 million. That kind of money could buy a good placekicker or even a backup some place.
I wonder which genius determined he was a good signing.
Jerry or Bill?

Ya know, the screwy thing is...I'd be a lot happier if when I saw the guy play, I thought "Hey, he looks pretty good" and I turned out to be wrong...as always happens with me...heck, I thought Hutch looked pretty good...
But I remember seeing Wiley in his first game and thinking "Uh Oh...this guy is AWFUL"
I can't see what they saw in him...at all.
Then again, I can't see what they saw in Eddie George either...but I think Wiley was by FAR a worse signing than George who was a one year bandaid.

Agreed. I seen him in his best years at Buffalo and he'd get the occasional sack but his abililty to play the run was average at best... even then.

Well yeah but that's when he was slipping and sliding around on all that ice and snow...in September. :)
Actually, I forgot that you had the chance to see him...often...just like uh, Bledsoe...
Probably with about the same opinion of both.

Spaghetti thrown against the wall theory here.
Toss a bunch of “rumors heard” up, then when 2 or 3 stick, you can point to that at your next contract negotiation and go, “hey, look at how inside I AM!!”

Self contradictory..
Marcellus Wiley/football skills.
I'd have said "Oxymoron" but Winicki would have seen the word "moron" and been insulted. :)

Wiley's signing shows how desperate Dallas is to get a pass rush. Of course the continued signing of former baseball players to play QB shows how desperate Dallas is to get a QB.
Think I'll have another beer.

Even if the guy was only speculating, Wiley getting released would seem to be the best bet to take.
And while the Cowboys didn't do Dat Dude any favors by promising he could play left end and then moving him to the right side near the end of camp, the bottom line is Wiley was so suspect he didn't even stay on the field for obvious passing downs.
Turn the page.
Can it get any worse or have we finally hit rock bottom at pass rushing end?

I would like to point out that I had serious concerns over Wiley on July 14, 2004, 8:24 pm.
Roy Crushes Competition in Cayman Challenge
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did anyone else see this? He was on the team opposite of Marcellus Wiley, and they won or tied every event. The only thing that concerns me is that Wiley showed fatigue quite a few times, I'm sure he's going to get teased, and might get a little extra attention in training camp. It's somewhat entertaining, and if nothing else, it shows that Roy is a playmaker.
Did anyone else remember that Cayman Challenge last year?
