View Full Version : Old people need to get with the times.

The Internet and Online checking accounts has made going to the ATM to check your balance obsolete!

I went to the bank today to withdraw some money and some old geezer took forever with 5 people, including me, waiting in line behind her. And she didn't deposit or withdraw any money!

Freakin' old people! GAW!

And a lot of them are from the greatest generation.....You know,Bob,the ones who did what they could to make sure you're not speaking German as the American language. There are fewer and fewer every day,Bob,so I guess sooner, rather than later, that problem will be solved for you.

Funny, we find ourselves using cash more and more, and credit cards less and less. Sort of a reduction in the paper trail,so to speak.

the only thing i hate is they use checks still, and still wait till the cashier is done ringing up the items and have been told their total before they even get out the check book.

then they ask for a pen....really?...you right checks...and you don't have a pen...?!

if their are any check writers out there reading this, do us all a favor...get out your checkbook, make sure you know where you are shopping, fill it out completely except for the total as they are ringing you up, and actually listen for the cashier to tell you total because he/she will say it before it pops up on the display.

You do realize you and your impatience is why the stuff we buy sucks? Everybody wants it NOW and could care less about quality.

I was in an A&W the other day and the gal told the customer they were waiting on his fries. He asked how long and she said about 3 minutes. Dude LOST it. Three freakin' minutes? Are you kiding me?

BTW - that old lady probably endured the depression. You think she trusts ANY financial institution?

This reminds me of my dad. My dad is always complaining about how computers have ruined things and everything is ran on a computer now. He was saying if we have solar flares it's going to knock out our satellites and everything is going to be down.

He had to give me a lift the other day and on the way home I was talking to him about his recent eye surgery and he was saying how his vision is so clear now he sees dust particles everywhere. I said, you know it took some computers to do that surgery. Papa got Pwned!

It truly hurts me to see some of my "zone" friends in such a hurry. I thank God everyday for where I am now. At least twice a week, sometimes more,I have to travel up the mountain to the Highlands/Cashiers area of NC in order to "ply my trade",so to speak. Every time I do,I have to drive right by the following overlooks, and every time is different. I told myself when we moved up here and I got my business going, that the day that I drove by these spots, and didn't at least take a long glance at the beauty, that would be the day that I brought the stress of big city living back to my life. I normally stop and look for awhile, and reflect on the last time I talked to my sister from these spots, before she succumbed to pancreatic cancer.
We are not promised tomorrow,my friends, and those of you who run full out ,wide open all the time....well,hopefully you will learn to slow down and enjoy while you can.

I have the same issue with cash. I rarely use it, so if I know I will need it, I hit the ATM.

For instance, as we are entering the holiday season in the next few months, I'll go get some cash so I can put a buck in the kettle every time I pass one. While I realize that I can contribute online, it takes me back when I'm slipping the folded up dollar through the slot.

Otherwise, I'm not a big fan of cash.

Your Dealers suck. My boy takes credit! :laugh2:

Sorry, this forum is just so wholesome that I assume no one else does such evil things.

When I need cash for special instances, I go to a store and buy something I want (read: Munchies), and get cash back. I refuse to go to specific machines that don't charge my card a fee to withdraw, and I refuse to pay a fee. So it's cash back for me !

As far as my earlier comments are tho, I'm dishonest and a cheater. I'm a Server who brings home over 100$ a night in cash, so I always have cash! I just hate having cash as I use my debit/credit for nearly everything. Cash just makes me have to go to the damn bank more often than I want to =(

I'm completely shocked-- SHOCKED-- to realize that some in here engage in recreational drug use...

Not one of the bastidges has ever once offered to share with me...

Now, on the subject of this thread, I guess I'm a dinosaur; I carry cash, and I pay with cash... when my phone bill's due (for example), I stop by the phone company and pay it... about the only exception is my DirecTV bill, I put just enough money in the bank to cover it, and pay the bill online... there's just no place around locally that I can go pay that bill, or I'd do exactly that...

The chief advantage of that is I never bounce a check... I also don't have to buy checks very often... :D

I also find it easier to keep track of my finances when they can be found in my wallet...

Though sometimes I do wish they'd stay off the roads at rush hour... :o:

My program. The one where I don't inconvenience other people? It would actually be easier for them to check their accounts online as opposed to having to drive all the way there just to spend 5 minutes.

My mom, for example, isn't online. She has never used a computer and has no desire to learn. I even offered to send them a computer and pay for their Internet service.

Sometimes, people prefer to do things the way they know how to do it, and have done it for their whole life.

Sorry to burst your bubble but someone is always going to be inconvenienced in one way or another. It doesn't matter how perfect a world you create.

Just last night I was at the grocery store, picking up some sundries, and as I head into line, a couple of young bubbas dash in to get in front of me. The one guy, with a phone glued to his ear, turns in some sort of exchange refund ticket. It's large, so they have to call the manager, who's unfortunately dealing with another issue. Guy continues to talk on his phone. Lines builds up on this and the only other cashier. Manager comes over, has to take the guy to a different station to sign something. Guy comes back, gets his money.....then tells the cashier he wants two Red Man pouches. Of course, it's under lock, and requires another lengthy trip before it can be delivered. Of course, he'd waited all that time to tell them this. Hey he was on the phone! Gotta have priorities!

Young people these days, inconveniancing everyone with their self centered ways! :)

I'll give old people this. They don't talk on their cellphones in public. Which is annoying.

Note to self: Extra $$$ for spur-of-the-moment Vegas trip, can be acquired at SB's place. Be sure to check mattress!

Chuckle... nope, once again, if you want my money, you'll find it in my wallet... and I can promise you, it won't get you near enough to go to Vegas...

Apparently, us old folks are the only ones who still practice reading comprehension... LOL...

I'm just laughing, thinking of the telephone people reaction is when you come sauntering in, or in your aged state, hobbling in, to pay your bill lol

By now they're used to me... I come through the door, they're grabbing their receipt book and typing my phone number into the computer before I get to the counter...

There are advantages to being predictable...

You are right about one thing, though-- they have seen me hobble in there before, from time to time... and I don't know if I've ever sauntered...

Don't have a cell phone, don't want one... I had one once, for a coupla years... kept it in the glove box of my Jeep, never even turned it on except when I wanted to make a call... obviously, that means I never received a call on it... never...

So when the contract was up, I turned it back in...

I ain't gonna be a slave to a flippin' phone, thank you very much... if you want to call me, call my house and leave a message on the answering machine... if it's important, or if it's somebody I actually like, I'll return the call...
