Born in the late 70's, I didn't get to enjoy the Staubach or early Danny White Cowboys teams. Doing a little bit of personal research and coming to you guys for some advice...
Which pre-90s Cowboys team would you consider the most dominant. I am definitely considering the teams that didn't win the Super Bowl either. Could you say they were the early 70s Cowboys with Lilly? Or the late 70s when Dorsett came on? Although Danny White's team couldn't seal the deal, could the early 80s Cowboys be considered a better team than any of Staubach's teams?
Thanks for any input.

The 77-78 teams that went to back to back Super bowls were the best teams before the 92-93 teams.
The team that lost the Super Bowl to Pittsburgh was better than the one that beat Denver.

....and....the teams that lost to Green Bay, weren't exactly slouch teams...The Cowboys gave GB a 14-0 lead in the first game and had a first and goal, down by one TD at the end of the game when things fell apart.
And the following season, in my estimation, they were better than the Packers...but they played them in the "Ice Bowl"...their speed, a huge advantage, was completely negated and yet, they were leading until...never mind.
Those were two Packer teams that went down in history as dominant...perhaps the greatest in history.
The team that whomped Miami in the Super Bowl was excellent...Actually, for my money, this might be the best Cowboy team ever..
Roger Staubach
Calvin Hill AND Duane Thomas (and Walt Garrison)
We're desperate for ONE good WR today....Bob Hayes AND Lance Alworth (Reggie Rucker as the number three guy) not too shabby.
Mike Ditka at TE
The O Line had Neely, Wright, Nyland, Nye, Fitzgerald.
And uh hows this for a Defense?
George Andrie, Bob Lilly, Jethro Pugh, Howley, Jordan, Edwards, Adderly, Renfro, Cornell Green, Charlie Waters,Cliff Harris
Great team.

The 1960 team wasn't a juggernaut but it was the first one. Growing up without even a hint of a major professional sports teams in Texas.......Well believe me.... that team was special.

I'm not sure which 70's team was the best but Ol' Roger Dodger said that he thought the '79 team was the best one he played on.

Roger Staubach told me he believed the 1977-78 teams were slightly better than the early 1970s teams because of the added dimension that Dorsett brought.
He said the two eras were even, except for the breakaway threat that Dorsett added. The early 1970s RBs were great (Duane, Calvin, Garrison, etc.), but they weren't home run threats.
The 71-72 defenses were full of veterans who played Landry's flex flawlessly. The 1977-78 defenses were much younger and played a little more recklessly, but were just as effective.

It was only the second team in the Super Bowl era to lead the league in both offense and defense.
