Collins may fly as Raven

Kerry Collins has an offer from the Raiders and he could soon be headed to Oakland. But now he has something else to think about: a reunion with former Giants coach Jim Fassel, now a consultant in Baltimore, where he would play behind Kyle Boller.
The Ravens are a late entry in the Collins Derby following the news that backup quarterback Anthony Wright will undergo shoulder surgery today for a torn labrum that could keep him out the entire season.

Oakland is still the strong favorite to get Collins. But now, at the very least, he may have a choice: Go to Oakland and start, where his signing for modest dollars for a No. 1 QB would push out Rich Gannon after June 1. Gannon, the 2002 MVP, is 38, making $7 million and is coming off shoulder surgery. Or, Collins could go to Baltimore as a backup for a year, then be the top free agent quarterback on the market next March with a chance at a lucrative long-term contract.

By the time the Giants cut Collins the week after the draft when he refused to restructure his contract once they drafted Eli Manning, his options were limited.

The Ravens are commited to Boller, their No. 1 pick in 2003, as their starter. And they had been reluctant to pursue Collins because they didn't want a quarterback controversy and were satisfied with Wright, who played well at times last season. But with the possibility Wright is out for the year, and no other veteran QBs on the roster, the Ravens are expected to make a run at Collins.

I'm just glad neither came from us...

KC is a good qb but he's hit the ceiling.

I'll stick with QC. I'm all for a vet backup but I liked from what little i saw of Romo last year. IF DH pans out we'll be set at qb for years.

If KC goes to baltimore he will put up some very good numbers,I do feel he's not a good fit for us.Romo,Who the hell knows?

And what of Vinny? Talk about hitting the ceiling! And as for Carter......he's never quit crawling on the floor.

I sure hope the upcoming season is different.

You could argue Quincy did a stellar job with limited RB and poor Oline. Led team to 10-6 record and playoff run.

Why don't we sign this guy...he can fill in quite nicely in different roles.

KC will put up very good numbers in Baltimore with what WRs? I mean obviously Jamal will take alot of pressure off the QB, but with no WRs what so ever thats going to hurt.

If Collins goes to Oakland, I am all for signing Rich Gannon here, Gannon is far lighter on his feet than Testaverde, and younger in football playing years. He is 38 but he bounced around as a backup in Minn and KC before becoming an All-Pro in Oakland. He would have to pass a physical, and old guys do heal slower than they used to, but he hasn't taken the day-to-day punishment that a long time starter would have.

As a veteran backup here he would have a realistic shot at playing if Carter falters or gets injured, and I think he would be an excellent mentor for Henson. He is crafty and knows the tricks, could very well be a future QB coach if Payton gets a job as a full OC elsewhere.

Someone needs to explain the definition of the words "playoff run" to me. I thought what we did last year was a "playoff fold" while exposing our QB to another in a line of big games on the road against a motivated opponent who can play...as in @N.E. @T.B. then @Carolina.

Let us be ever-hopeful but not deluded.

Perhaps they could just charge people $4.95 every time they de-rail a thread onto a Carter-Battle-Royale.

A good qb will make up for no name recievers ,even A wright had some sucess there. :D

I agree somewhat, also a Jamal Lewis providing the threat for a play action can make mediocre recievers wide open at times.

So you are saying Anthony Wright is a good quarterback?

Football 101 run to set up the pass, hopefully we can do alot of it this year.

I prefer to run and pass equally to keep them guessing, thus the two set each other up. True balance is the formula for success.

Collins is just another in a long line of "name" FA/player that many fans want us to run out and sign/trade for any time they are mentioned to be a FA or available.

The guy that comes here--if one does at all--will be a backup (who is content to be just that) and who could start if needed. Collins considers himself a starter, probably a bigtime starter at that. I just don't see a guy like that fitting in in Dallas--as Vinnie T. would.
