Thats right something different here.
List some under rated Movies ones you seen but most people probably never heard of or very few have and of course not a blockbuster hit
I will start here
The Duelist (Harvey Kitael and David Cardine) This is about two French officers during the Napoleonic War time frame based on a true story.
Long Riders (Quaids; Cardines and keechs) Western this is based on the Younger Gang true story basis and the cool thing here all the brothers covered Younger; James; Miller where played by actors that where real life brothers.
Second Hand Lion (Duval and Caine) This is a new one but is very entertaining and well done this is also one the whole family can watch.
Excalibur(1981) The greatest King Arthur movie ever is know by some but never gets the credit it deserves awesome movie and I still judge every new King Arthur movie by this standard and none have lived up to the hype.
OK tear it apart add to it all thanks

The Thin Red Line - some people won't like it because WW2 plays second fiddle to the psychology of good/evil, right/wrong or sanity/insanity but the film is poetry in motion.

Count of Monte Cristo written by Alexander Dumas (French Aurthur of the 1800 time period) It is a great book and a classic while worth the read

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy is another book in that era...
One of my favorite books of all time...
They made the movie many years ago and did a mini series in the 90's... but I missed it...

Yea, I read it in HS, and since when has a movie equaled the book, esp a semi-classic like that?
But, it IS an entertaining movie IMO. I never go into a movie expecting the same from it, that I got from the book.

Another movie I liked that I think a lot of ppl have heard of but have never seen is "A Clockwork Orange" (1971)
You kind of have to watch it more than once because of all the mid-seventies, English gang-slang dialog it's full of, but it's a pretty interesting film.

Agreed...it is rare for a movie to live up to the book.
Sure there are some that come close but even then it is just never as good as the book.
I think for the most part stephen King books do pretty well once made into movies...I think he makes sure to have control of how they go.
I think the mini-series Shogun was done pretty well, but as long as it was it still left out quite a bit of things from the book.

Yea, I remember watching that when it first aired, what was that, like early 80's? It was really engrossing back then.

I read where King didn't like The Shining. He wasn't really involved with the filming of that one, but he was involved in the made for TV version a couple of years ago.

I think I have read the book about 5 times as well.

Yep you are correct....but when the shining came out Stephen King was not as famous and did not have as much pull in what was done.
But I think for the most part he makes sure to have control over the projects in some manner for the last 10 years or so.

If you like John Sayles films, and I do, then I HIGHLY recommend the film "Matewan"...
Well... even if you don't like his stuff it is a great movie...

A few of my picks:
The Sweet Hereafter - a devestating film... everyone should watch it.
Requiem for a Dream - the best anti-drug movie ever made.
Spartan - an underrated movie from last year with Val Kilmer. Great pacing and material as usual from David Mamet.
Tons of others, these are just a few off the top of my head.

Saw both those movies and hated Requiem for a Dream found it boring to all hech the ending is a good anti-drug hehe nothing like Jenfier Connley doing a (di***) war to get money
