As an on the record Henson supporter, I now call upon Jerry Jones to do the right thing for our young QB. Trade him.
If Jerry is honest with himself, Henson won't see the light of day as long as Parcells is here. Jerry has "seen the light" about young QB's. He doesn't see the value or wisdom in playing inexperienced guys. Heck, he even had to "suffer" through the growing pains of Aikman on that fine team he put around him in 1989.
And, since players don't GAIN experience by NOT PLAYING, why put anyone through any more of this misery? Why put Henson through it, and why put us fans through it? If, indeed, the plan IN TODAYS NFL is to just keep patching with old QB's why even pretend anymore. Just ship the young guy out and get for him what you can, while you can.
I'm serious when I say that I would like to see Henson get a shot to play somehwere, and if it isn't in Dallas, lets send him somewhere for a draft pick.
I'll make you a bet right now. If Henson is offered around the league today we FOR SURE get our 3rd round pick back, and I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get a 2nd or higher.

He's just in his 2nd year of an 8 year contract, and now its obvious he'll never play in Dallas?
The downward spiral of irrationality just keeps going and going.

Did not Jerruh himself say yesterday that Bledsoe, he hoped, was here for years to come? Didn't Bledsoe talk about out lasting Parcells? Didn't Jerry say that in today's NFL you don't do it like they used to and that he has learned by his attempt to play young QB's? Is it A LEAP in logic to conclude that Henson won't play here for a good long time? Today, JJT says he has "sources" who say Vinny might even be brought back. Heck, man, what do you make of it?

One other thought. It struck me a couple of days ago when Jerry was talking about Henson that he said he believed Henson could still be a starter one day for Dallas "or for another team in the NFL". I'm not going to be surprised if Henson is traded.

Ok Doomsday, let me ask you. If Jerry really believes what he said at the Press Conference yesterday. He wants Bledsoe (who says he won't be a backup) for "years to come". Where does that put Henson?
Now, if you aren't going to play Henson, why not get your draft pick back on him or more?
Is that so knee jerk?
Do I take Jerry at his word or is he lying?
We know there are OTHER teams willing to take that monumental "chance" of playing a young QB, don't we?
Ask Jacksonville, Chicago, Buffalo, New York Giants, San Diego, Pittsburgh, etc, etc, etc.
Why not make a deal?

Bledsoe signed what amounts to a 2 year deal while we have Henson under an 8 year contract. Sorry I don't see Dallas trading Henson anytime soon, they will continue to work with him.

Get value for the kid while you can. If veterans like Bledsoe are the way to go in today's NFL free agent system and such, then become George Allen for goodness sakes when it comes to the QB position.
Hire one for awhile, use him, then hire another one.

where have you been?
Signing Bonus was only $2M. If they are committing 2 years to Bledsoe and they feel Romo is as ready as Henson.
Why not trade Henson? I bet we can get San Frans #2. maybe Green Bays #1. I'm looking into but would not be suprised that Henson is today, being shopped. Parcells hates QB controversy's and it will follow Bledsoe/HENSON Everywhere.
Remember Parcells going on about putting the parts around a QB to win. Trade Henson for another starting Part!

I saw what Jerry said and I also heard Jerry say he was not giving up on Henson and even went to Henson before they signed Bledsoe to give Henson ideal of what was going on. So I don't think the organization has given up on him nor do they intend to trade him.

only problem is it's the exact kinda short-sighted thinking that got us in this jam in the first place.
we need to have a reasonably good prospect waiting in the wings for the next calamitous development at QB. we didn't take that measure in grooming a successor to aikman - and look what it's cost us...

The only person thats worse to try to read into in this area than Jerry is Bill. Jerry is the consumate sales man. Hes not going to come into the press conference and say "Damn, we just signed a total stiff. Hes doing nothing but stealing money from us." Of course hes not going to do that. Hes unlikely to voice too many public opinions that are different from BP unless hes caught in a moment of emotion, see after Thanksgiving last year.

I don't think Bill will be here after this year so see where the team is going after that before you even consider trading Henson. I don't think they would trade him.

God forbid a quarterback we have locked up long term and only gave a 3rd round pick to obtain doesn't see the field in the first few years of his contract. And that isn't true that you have to be playing to gain that experience, waiting on the sidelines before getting your turn sure has worked out in the past, Chad Pennington anybody? And he was a high first round pick. Henson was out of football for 4 years, it won't hurt him to get some practice time and watch on the sidelines for a little while before he gets his chance.

Henson isn't going to be traded anywhere. Only anti-Hensonites like Nors ;) would want him traded for picks after he's on record as saying he chose the Cowboys because Parcells is the coach and that their relationship is good.

I can't believe the Jets didn't trade Pennington after his first year on the bench. Or the Titans with McNair.
Actually, what I really can't believe is that I took the time to respond to this insipid thread.

Why not make a deal? Jerry also once said that he was seriously considering bringing Vinny back for another year. You never know with Jerry. As for Henson, the only thing he is owed is the money from his contract. The best thing he can do is go out and leave Parcells with no choice but to play him. If he lights it up in training camp, he could force Parcells hand. Furthermore, we have to be prepared for the fact that Bledsoe could get injured (ala 2001 with the Pats.) It's up to Henson to be ready.

Not saying what the Jets did was wrong, but we don't know what would have happened if Pennington saw the field sooner. Same thing with the Titans and McNair. Plus the Jets were close to the playoffs his first season before they dropped 3 straight to end the season and made the playoffs his second season. Dallas at this time doesn't look like a playoff team. Let's see how the season goes. If Dallas is out of it going into the last few games again, then it just makes sense for a young QB to get some playing time. I also thinkt that most want to see Henson(or Romo) not because they know he is a sure thing, but that they know Bledsoe(or Vinny) isn't anything special at this point of his career.

The reason you keep a young player like Henson around and try to develop him is so you are not playing QB roulette after a guy like Aikman retires. Henson will get his shot. Just look at the terms of the contract. Bledsoe is not going to be the second coming of Joe Montana during his time here. And how are you supposed to get value if the kid has never played. I doubt you'd get a 3rd rounder from another team who sees that even Dallas doesn't feel he's ready yet. As for Jerry's comments, do you honestly expect him to put a time table on Bledsoe's stay here at his introductory press conference? What do you expect Jerry to say? Bledsoe's a one year stop gap? Come on and see this for what it is- buying time to develop your future (Henson)

I agree the Henson should be traded or even just cut from the roster. It is so obvious that as long as Parcells is here that Henson will never get a fair shot at earnin the startin job. As long as Parcells is here the only time Henson will ever see the field is to hold the ball for a field goal attempt. Other then that the only thing Henson will ever be here is a clipboard holder.
Trade Henson or release him so he can go to another team where he will have a fair and better chance at winnin the startin job. He has alota talent and it aint right for it to be gettin completely wasted here in Dallas. Let him find a team with a better coach which shouldnt be that hard and a coach that actually believe in fair competition unlike Parcells who just hands jobs to his Parcells Guys.
I dont wanna see Henson leave Dallas but geez it aint right whats goin on here. By the time he ever gets a shot at startin here he will be near 30 or over 30 and his best days will be real short and be already past his prime in a few years. Let him go somewhere else.

It's so obvious that most people around here don't remember when we had to wait 4 years for a QB to even don the Cowboy blue. He did go on to have a somewhat decent career. His name......Roger Staubach.
Look the simple fact is Henson isn't ready to play. That is going to take some time. If we have to wait 2 years until Bledsoe leaves, so be it.

I've said this for awhile so listen up this time. Drew Henson was acquired for the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys. How long did Favre sit in Atlanta before getting a shot in GB? For that matter how long did Hasselbeck "sit" in GB before getting a shot in Seattle? McNair in Houston before being the starter in Tennessee? Brunell/ Brooks in GB before starting in Jax and NO, respectively? They all "sat" for at least two years.
People should stop putting a definite one year timetable on Henson and let's take some time to develop young players with promise.

The fans are wanting this already to go qb and that is so hard to do in the NFL..what one player in 50 if not more...its not always going to happen...they would do best in what i think they are doing...letting Henson learn and get the rust off...which was a good thing..cause now we're changing offensive coordinators...so that would also have been hard on him...so it was best to let him sit out and learn last season and see waht they do with him this season...sheesh..its not like hes pushing 30 yet...
