Bills ready to let veterans Jennings, Williams walk
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo Bills are prepared to let starters Jonas Jennings and Pat Williams become free agents next week unless they lower their contract demands.

"We'd like to get both back if we can, but it may not be cost effective," Bills president Tom Donahoe said at the NFL combine in Indianapolis Thursday.
Donahoe went further in an interview with Buffalo's WIVB-TV later in the day, saying: "I think both those players right now are of the opinion that they can get more on the open market than we would be willing to pay them. And they're certainly entitled to explore that."
Jennings, a left tackle and former second-round draft pick, has been a four-year starter. Williams, an eight-year veteran, is a run-stuffing defensive tackle, who has started 48 consecutive games.
Both completed the final years of their contracts last season and are eligible to become unrestricted free agents Wednesday.
Williams, who helped Buffalo's defense finish second in fewest yards allowed in the NFL last season, is seeking a deal worth about $5 million a year.
Jennings is expected to seek a deal in the range of the reported $36 million, seven-year contract Indianapolis right tackle Ryan Diem signed this week.
Jennings' agent Todd France said he hasn't had any contract talks with the Bills and hasn't yet seen Donahoe while attending the combine.
"I'm sure I'll see him, but no, I don't anticipate anything," France said.
Williams' agent Angelo Wright did not return a phone message left with him Thursday, but has previously said he's prepared to have his client explore free agency.
The Bills will only be modestly strapped by the NFL salary cap, projected by several publications to be about $8 million once the new cap comes into effect next week.
The team saved about $2.2 million in cap room when it released quarterback Drew Bledsoe this week and another $3.5 million when it restructured receiver Eric Moulds' contract earlier this month.

The Bills might let Pat Williams walk?
Well hopefully Jerry will juice up the jet, and let him ride in style straight to Texas Stadium.

5 Million per year for Pat Williams....I have no problem with that
#1 need IMO
I think we'd terrorize people with Williams next to Glover and Ellis.
If we crunch his 5 mil so we only take a yearly cap hit of say...4, that would put us around 7 mil of our 20 mil cap space used. I think we still have plenty of room for Ken Lucas (estimate 3-4 mil), FS Dwight Smith (2-3 mil), and a RT, DE, or LB. WR will still be a ? but I think the odds increase greatly that we'll be looking hard at a first day WR.
There are some really good RTs and LBs to be found in the first two rounds of this draft also. I like the Spears or Merriman in the first also. Merriman would give us a lot of versatility and a potential speed, edge rusher.

$5 mil per year for a non-probowl player? No way.

We didn't start this offseason with 20$ million dollar cap space. We had about 17$ million BEFORE the Bledsoe signing.
5$ million a year for Williams is a little high. He's is really good but he's getting up there in age (33). It might be alright if he would sign for just a couple years and buy us some time to draft his replacement. I can't help but think that there is a hidden talent at DT somewhere in the 2nd/3rd round of this year's draft. The question is who?

I think they better leave the Gulfstream behind, and top up the C-130 for this guy. :D

I used to detail his airplane and 7 years ago he only had a lear 31 which is small jet, really small. I was suprised at this I thought he would at least have a Gulfstream or a Challenger. But I have also heard alot of talk about Jason Ferguson which one of these guys would be better? JF already has a foot up on Williams since Parcells drafted him.

You know I listen to some of you people and it's like you've never paid a bill in your life or apparently the magnetic strip on your credit cards has worn off.
It's like this people over-spending on 33 year old players is not in our best interests long term. You may knock or even hate Philly but by God they wouldn't spend $5 million per year on a 33 year old. Sure we've got almost $20 mil in cap space but you don't have to blow it all on 3 or 4 players. We've got far too many holes to pull that sort of nonsense. And what about next year? Look at Washington... they've screwed themselves on the cap to the point they have to re-work older contracts to make space to re-sign any of their important guys not too mention any new players.
But I think some of you need to take a financial management course or two.

I agree wholeheartedly, Mr. Winicki! Can't afford to spend big money on 33 yr old guys, especially very fat 33 yr old big guys :p:

Even though your use of the King's language leaves something to be desired I agree with your points. :)

Well first of all, just because that is what he wants, that does not mean that is what he is going to get.
Secondly, maybe that is just his price for Buffalo to not allow him to test FA.
Thirdly, if we do give him that kind of money, who says he ever sees it all. Let Jerry do his thing.
And lastly, I am tired of always talking about the money.
I realize it is important, but the market will set his value.
If we want to fill some holes with very good players, we will have to spend what the market dictates. No more bargain shopping.
Go get some real football players in here.
I do not know how much you have watched Pat Williams, but he is a dominant player at his position.
We need dominant players on this D-Line.

CH, less you forget I live near Buffalo and have had the "joy" of watching nearly every Bills football game ever played over the last 20 years or so.
Yes, Pat Williams is a good player, a very-good player but not a probowler.
BUT he's 33, he's about 50 heavier than he should be as a football player and about 125lbs heavier than a 6'3" man should be. His body is probably close to breaking down. He's not worth $5 mil per season. Give him 2 years @ $8 mill.

2 years @ 8 Million. Sign him up! :)
Actually I had no idea where you lived. Stay warm!
I think Pat Williams has 3 good years left. And in my opinion he is a pro-bowler. He does not do the glamour things so he will never get in, but what he does IMO is very valuable, and I do think he does it on a Pro-Bowl level.
Because of Dallas having Buffalo's pick I watched a lot of Buffalo's games last year, and I think Williams was the main reason the Bills Defense was as good as it was.
No he was not the playmaker, but IMO he was the reason everyone else was.

Come home, Pat. :)
Let's get this guy and draft a CJ Mosely or Hawthorne and get our D-line shored up for now and the future.
