Gerard Warren being shopped but may be released by Clevelend.
Gerard was a first round pick third overall in 2001 draft.
Gerard is 6-4 325
26 years old
And A beast
Crennel is not high on him, thinks he is simply an interior lineman, with his switch to a 3-4.
We could use him either way, because we probably will use a hybrid anyway or stay a 4-3.
This guy is young, a beast and played for a horrid team so plug him next to Glover and we are much...much better up front quick!!!
Your Thoughts??? :)

Your Thoughts??? :)He has the size to play the middle in either scheme. I haven't seen him enough to have an evaluation of his talent but if he can eat up some blockers and hold his own he would be a good pickup. And the good part is that he is young enough to be with us for a long time.

There was a post on this earlier today.
It did not seem like many would agree with your thoughts on Warren.

Did not see the post nor did I really offer any thoughts other than a prospect...more acutely I am asking for others thoughts???

I hear ya!
I guess I really have no opinion.
The Browns are on a short list of teams I never watch, unless they are playing Dallas of course.
I have not really seen him play at all. Just the game against Dallas this year, and I did not pay any attention to him.
I am aware of his pedigree, his bust status, and his nice size, and I do remember seeing him in College.
Nothing really to base an opinion on though.

I like Warren, it seems like a combination of immaturity, lack of work ethic and injuries have really held him back. He is definitely a talented player that might be able to benefit from a Parcells type coach and a change of scenery. He certainly talks like he can be a world beater and seems to have the physical tools to be a very solid player.

I'd have to think that if Crennel wanted him gone, then he's not a guy Parcells would want. Those two pretty much go by the same criteria.

I would like to quote Mr. Spagnola on this....."if he is so damn good why would the Browns dump him?" On this guy I agree wholeheartedly with Mickey :D

My thoughts exactly... Unless he'd come here for chump change, which he wouldn't. Crennel might keep him if he wasn't costing him that much, but at a high price tag he probably decided to make an example out of the guy and help on the $$ side too.

Picks like Warren when Tomlinson was on the board are the reasons why Butch Davis is home now and Campo has moved again to another town as an assistant coach.
What a bad pick that high in the draft.
Warren doesn't fit in any scheme and is vastly overpaid. Browns going 3-4 and addressing personell. How refreshing is that! Bill - make a damn decision. There is no strategic value to "hiding it". In FA YOU HAVE TO SELL DEFENSIVE PLAYERS ON THEIR ROLES HERE. Make an announcement, its really in the best interest of the team to do so.
Warren doesn't fit in Crennel's 3-4 scheme
By Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Cleveland Browns have a new head coach and a new defensive scheme and it appears that combination means Gerard Warren will have a new home for the 2005 season.
The four-year veteran defensive tackle, who many feel has not fulfilled the potential that made him the third player chosen overall in the 2001 draft, has been granted permission to discuss possible trade scenarios with other franchises, ESPN.com has learned. Team officials, sources told ESPN.com, went so far as to apprise Warren and his agent via letter that they were free to seek out deals.

It is believed that agent Joel Segal has already received interest from several teams and will meet with officials from those clubs this weekend at the annual combine workouts being held here. Several general managers quickly surveyed here on Thursday evening acknowledged they would at least explore a possible trade for Warren.
"Has he been everything he was advertised to be coming out (of college)?" asked one general manager. "Hell, no, he hasn't. But he's still a 300-pound guy who can be very active at times. Go shake a tree and see how many of those kinds of guys fall out."
In such circumstances, a player's agent typically seeks out suitors, and then tells the incumbent club about any interest he generates. Permission to seek a trade does not often result in a deal but Warren could draw considerable interest, even given the perception he has frequently underachieved. It is not known what the Browns would seek in return for Warren, who has only one year remaining on his contract.
While it is not certain if Cleveland will release Warren should a trade not be completed, that is a strong likelihood, particularly with the direction of the defense under first-year head coach Romeo Crennel.
Cleveland will attempt to switch in 2005 to the 3-4 defensive front that Crennel favored during his stretch as the New England Patriots defensive coordinator. That switch alone jeopardized Warren's stint in Cleveland, since the former University of Florida standout is more a 4-3 interior player, and probably not suited to playing at nose tackle in a three-man front. Neither was it likely that Warren could have made the switch to end in a 3-4.
Often criticized because his modest statistics never approximated the huge investment that Cleveland had in him, Warren, nicknamed "Big Money," nonetheless will have value in the market.
Warren, 26, has appeared in 60 games and started all but one of them. He has recorded 152 tackles, 10½ sacks, four forced fumbles and nine passes defensed.

Warren has disappointed for sure. I don't think he's going to command much attention or money though, so if he can be brought in to compete for a bargain price, so be it.
