The second worst half-season in Cowboys history produced the franchise's first mid-year coaching change. It's Jason Garrett's task to begin the turnaround in the Meadowlands, where the club endured the start of what remains its worst half-season ever.

The year was 1986. The Cowboys' NFL record of 20 consecutive winning seasons – a distinction that to this day defines the franchise more than any other achievement – was not only intact but in no visible danger of reaching its conclusion.

The Cowboys were 6-2 when they went to Giants Stadium to face their most formidable NFC East foe, but one they had beaten in the season opener at Texas Stadium. The arrival of Herschel Walker from the USFL had fans of the first-place Cowboys thinking that recent first-round losses to the Rams were going to serve as the ugliest part of the '80s.

And just like that . . . it was over.
