Of all the head coaches who have come and gone over the years, Jason Garrett has it easy. Easier than what Tom, Jimmy, Barry, Chan, Dave, Bill and Wade faced when they debuted.

Except when I ran that opinion by one of my favorite football guys, his reply was a smelly belch, a "that's stupid" comment, followed by a snarly profanity.

I took his reaction as a disagreement.

So here's the deal:

The Dallas Cowboys are in the Meadowlands today, a 131/2-point dog against the Giants, and not since 2001 (a 17-point dog at Oakland) has Vegas viewed America's New Creampuff with such point-spread disdain.

Garrett wears the No. 1 headset for the first time. His club is 1-7, he's stuck with an aging backup quarterback for what appears to be the rest of the season, and he's got a roster of quitters, all this leading to exactly zero expectations.

There is some real logic here. It actually seems that JG has a good shot of being the coach next year. If for no other reason than the CBA.
