Talk about knowing when to walk away... maybe somebody got something on him where he has to keep playing.

Agent: Rice wants to play a 21st season

Has Jerry Rice (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=126) run his last NFL pass pattern?

On Friday, the Seattle Seahawks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=sea) released Rice. His agent told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer that the move was made at Rice's request, the newspaper's Web site reported.

"We asked for his release, and obviously they want to accommodate him," Jim Steiner, Rice's longtime agent, told the Post-Intelligencer at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.

"We are grateful to Jerry and the role he was willing to fill for the Seahawks last year," coach Mike Holmgren said in a statement released by the team."He is one of the greatest players in the history of our game and we wish him nothing but the best."

The NFL's all-time leading receiver split last season with the Seahawks and Oakland Raiders (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=oak), who traded Rice to the Seahawks at midseason. In 11 games, he had 25 catches for 362 yards and three touchdowns.

Rice is eager to return for a 21st NFL season if he can find the right situation, Steiner said.

"I think he still has the fire," Steiner said.

Among his dozens of NFL records, Rice is the career leader in receptions (1,549), reception yardage (22,895) and touchdown catches (197).

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

I heard the Skins need a WR. I think a $10 million signing bonus should be enough to lure him in. Imagine the mileage Danny Boy could get out of that kind of veteran name this spring.

Dallas would probably sign him, but I'm not sure he's old enough.

Yeah, right! Probably went down more like this...

Holmgren: Jerry...they are going to release you. I'm sorry.
Jerry: What the F?!?! How am I going to pad my friggin' stats now? I'm Jerry 'freakin' Rice!
Holmgren: I know, I know. Just calm down.
Jerry: But I'm the best ever!!
Holmgren: Sure you are. However, they told me that even though they think Koren will drop more balls than you would catch next season, they are still going another direction because not only are you actually OLDER than Vinny Testeverde, you are also an a******.
Jerry: True...but my ego's so huge, no one can ever know I was cut!
Holmgren: Just like when you lied about Largent calling YOU offering his retired #80 jersey, tell your agent once again to fabricate anything you want him to say, and we won't confirm or deny it.
Jerry: Thanks!! I love you Mike.
Holmgren: For the record, if I weren't such a crappy GM and actually still held that position, I'd have kept you around.

Jerry Rice supposedly has the best work ethic in the NFL. It might be worth consideration to talk to him at least. He can't do any worse than that guy we have that's been with the team for several years and has never caught a pass in a game. His name escapes me now.

Randall Williams. . .

He's fast but doens't get on the field much.

I'd be OK with Rice for depth at the league minimum.

Actually he finally caught one last year. Honestly, I'd like to be him. Play WR, but only catch one pass in four years. He's probably earned up to at least a $1 mil, just playing ST.

Nope. I'm not.
If he can catch 2 passes it'll be more than Randall Williams and he has a roster spot. BTW thanks to the poster for providing the name. If I remember right he had a 100 plus yard game against us.

I would really love for them to sign Rice, as he impressed me greatly in the MNF game.

In order to have a roster spot as a #4, #5, or #6 wide receiver....and even #3....you have to play special teams.

And Jerry Rice does not play special teams.

There is no way in hell he comes here. Thankfully.

We don't need a guy on the team that in 4 years or whatever it's been has caught 1 pass. What a waste. And they'll put a rookie on ST if need be. Get rid of the guy and get somebody in there that's going to do more. I think Rice is at least worth talking too. He can't be any worse.

Dallas WR's in 2005

1.Key - Solid, tough, and ready to roll.
2.Glenn - Playmaker
3.Morgan - Solid # 3.
4.Crayton - Up and Coming
5.Copper - Shows potential
6.FA Signing or Draft Pick that impact a game and be a playmaker.

Where does Jerry Rice fit in?
He doesn't!

The guy is finished! Hang'em up.
