The Jags have already given up on him after 1 year.

Bart Hubbuch, of the Florida Times-Union, reports it was revealed the Jacksonville Jaguars are in the market for a backup running back to starter Fred Taylor after the club interviewed Florida's RB Ciatrick Fason Thursday, Feb. 24, at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. "The Jaguars seemed really interested in me and told me they're looking for a running back in this draft," said Fason. "They acted like finding a running back was a really big deal." Additionally, the Jaguars have invited Fason to a pre-draft workout in Jacksonville in early April. The Jaguars hold the No. 21 overall selection in the NFL Draft.

I don't see where is says they gave up on Jones. Didn't they move him to FullBack?

I wonder if they are looking at moving Greg to FB...he is a bigger guy and some predicited he may play FB in the pros.
Just something to consider.

Do you think they drafted him in the 2nd round to be a fullback?

Sometimes things change. They probably didn't intend on Greg Jones being a RB bust. So you've got to evolve with the situation.

What do Crayton and Greg Jones have in common???

Both owned Sean Taylor

No.

And that is the point. They need a backup tailback for Taylor and now feel Bell is not it. I read that somewhere else too that they have been disappointed in him. Give up might be too strong but when the issue remains on your offseason "to do" list you know the issue has not been satisfied satisfactorily.

RB's who survived running straight-up, bulldozing in the NCAA, rarely ever make it in the NFL without additional skills.

Jones made some nice highlight reels in college but so did that scrub from the Giants (I forgot his name).

I would never draft a RB over 235 with a high draft pick. The failure rate is just too high. Ron Dayne, Greg Jones and TJ Duckett (alright, Duckett isn't quite a bust. But if you're an former 1st round RB entering your 4th year without a 1,000 season and you can't surplant an old Warrick Dunn as the starter, its nothing to write home about).

We drafted Daryel Johnston in the second round to be a fullback. So why not?

Consider how the Jags struggled in short yardage situations. I followed that closely because I had Taylor in a fantasy league. He sucked at 3rd and short and 4th and short. Next, the Jags tried bringing in Jones. He fared no batter. Considering he doesn't have the speed and versatility of Taylor, I expect they aren't real thrilled about spending a second rounder on him. He's nowhere near the value that Julius Jones was.

Sometimes you also have to consider that a lot of pre-draft talk is just smokescreen and B.S. Remember how sources had Jerry Jones all hot and bothered over William Green in 2002, and Dallas ended up taking Roy Williams. Look at the rest of the draft, and the closest they came to taking a RB was Jamar Martin. Hardly the actions of a team that was so eager for RB help they were "considering" a back in the first round.

Adam posted the Cowboys draft board that year, and they had William Green rated as the 9th best player in the draft. They liked him. They just weren't drafting for need that year.

Another "I told you so" by Me. Last year half of the posters were in school girl giddy love with this guy based off 2 ESPN clips of his runs last year. Those runs don't come in the NFL like they did vs. South Dakota State.
