Cowboys leave Giants asking questions after loss: 'Maybe we aren't as good as we thought we were'

By DAN HICKLING / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – It was unexpected, to be sure, and hardly what the New York Giants had been planning for.

But even in the face of the 33-20 upset dealt them by the Cowboys, the Giants weren't seeing red.

If anything, the NFC East Division leaders felt they were done a favor.

"I'm not mad, and I'm not sad about this game," defense end Justin Tuck said. "Actually, I'm kind of glad. Maybe this is a wake-up call that we needed. This is a chance to look at ourselves and say that maybe we aren't as good as we thought we were."

Certainly, it appeared the Giants (6-3) were expecting to simply knock over a reeling Cowboys team that entered 1-7 off a week in which it made a coaching change – even though they had barely eked out a six point (41-35) win over the same group just three weeks before.

If so, they had to call a hasty audible on that way of thinking.

The Giants used the whoopings we put on them in 2007 to improve themselves for their run at the Super Bowl. I bet it happens again.

Yes, makes sense; we were winning - accomplishing our ultimate task - on a week to week basis and we needed to realize maybe we shouldn't have been...

Make no mistake, the Giants have a good team. They made the kind of mistakes that the Cowboys made (dropped passes, blown assignments) in the last few games. If Manning gets that touchdown to make the score 10-9, our guys might not have won. I'm not knocking the Cowboy's effort, I'm just not writing the Giants off yet.

Tuck was on the radio this week saying he would be surprised if Dallas didn't give them all they wanted. He said the team is very talented and a new coach brings added life.
The local guys were begging him to just bag on the team yet he did anything but.

He was basically right.
