WACO, Texas - Baylor football student-athletes Danny Watkins and Phil Taylor will play for the South team in the 62nd annual Under Armour Senior Bowl on Jan. 29 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The collegiate all-star game will be televised on the NFL Network.
....
Watkins has graded 91 percent or higher in six games and has recorded 12 or more knockdowns in a game four times this season. He leads the team with 121 knockdowns through the first 11 games.
Taylor, a native of Clinton, Md., ranks second on the team and tied for 18th in the Big 12 with seven tackles for loss. He has 45 tackles, 28 of which were solo, through the first 11 games of the season. Taylor's 33 tackles through the first eight games of the year were more than any other Baylor defensive lineman had during the entire 2009 season.
Taylor and Watkins will become the 44th and 45th student-athletes to represent Baylor in the Senior Bowl. Former Bear J.D. Walton, who was later selected by the Denver Broncos in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft, played in last year's Senior Bowl. The last time multiple players from Baylor participated in the game was when Ray Crockett, Bobby Sign, Daryl Gardener, Adrian Robinson and Derrick Fletcher all played in 1989.
Baylor (7-4, 4-3 Big 12) closes out the regular season against No. 16/14 Oklahoma (8-2, 4-2 Big 12) at 7 p.m. Saturday at Floyd Casey Stadium. The game will be broadcast live nationally on ESPN2.
