Roy Williams Coughs up a Win

By Matt Mosley

Just when it looked like the Dallas Cowboys would seal an improbable comeback victory over the New Orleans Saints, safety Malcolm Jenkins made the play of the game against wide receiver Roy Williams. Jenkins had taken a bad angle in coverage against Williams, who caught a short pass from Jon Kitna and turned it into a huge gain. Even a field goal at that point in the game would've given the Cowboys a 30-23 lead with about two minutes to play.

Again it's not on Roy that the defense allowed their offense to go 89 yards in barely over a minute.

I am upset for the fumble, and I respect Roy for taking the loss on himself, but the defense has to step up there and make plays to seal the win.

That's why it's a team game and not an individual one.

I blame some of it on Roy however when a defense folds at the very end, it's pretty sad...

The thing to remember is that what Roy fumbled away was a chance to seal the victory. He did not fumble away the loss. He had plenty of help with that.

That was a great play by their defense, and it's not like Roy was doing anything he shouldn't have, he did everything he could to protect the ball.

OTOH, the defense did absolutely nothing to stop the Saints from scoring.

It was just one play in the game obviously, but Roy coughs up the ball more than should be tolerated,,, just like Newman tends to sit on routes, takes plays off, and constantly gives up the first down on third and long,,,
