Here we go - a player that has not played in a year - is out of shape, rust. Good thing he's not a baseball player or JJ would draft him.
Emmitt ran 4.6 , 4.55 was my recollection
And Smith was the warrior. Drafted 17th in the first round in 1990 because he supposedly lacked speed, Smith never played like a running back who had a 4.6 40 time. His style was efficient and forceful. Irvin made plays like a lightning bolt. Smith was more stealth, nothing flashy, just efficient.

clarett's combine was pretty much a flaming disaster.
but it wouldn't shock me if he turned out to be a good RB.
there is zero substitute for being an active player in games.
maybe he can play himself back into shape. UDFA. some pretty good players have made it happen that route.

You know I find it a touch distasteful for any of us to be making light of what's happened to this kid. No doubt he's made decisions and shunned an opportunity for an education, but just take a second to think how he must be feeling at this moment. This isn't like Randy Moss doing something stupid. There we can feel outraged, knowing that he has millions stashed away, more money than most of us could ever dream of having. You might even be excused for enjoying seeing him get pegged down a notch. But what about Clarett? He likely cost himself millions of dollars today. Sure he'll probably get picked up by somebody but his future is anything but secure. For that we should feel badly for him rather than labelling him a loser and indulging in smug righteousness.

With this kids bagage and history, a year out of football. He showed up out of shape. I ran track and played football. Not only were his 40 times sad, he had no tone in his legs. I might say flabby. He could not even vert the lowest bar in that test. Kids out of shape - LOSER as far as NFL prospect.
Pass - totally. Coyle wrote an extensive diss a year ago, he was RIGHT.
No thanks

Was in the 4.55's range , Busted his *** and I bet by Dallas days worked into 4.45 range.
Clarrett at 4.8? Year removed from football? Did you see flab on his legs? Dude flat out QUIT and has since left combine. Nice....
Don't spin this at me - Clarett is all yours. I'm not the bad guy here and just calling it like I see it!

He had the opportunity of a lifetime at Ohio State. He was on top of the world and could have written his own ticket had he just played by the rules off the field as well as on. He thought he was entitled to do whatever he wanted because he was a superstar.
Sure I feel bad at seeing so much potential squandered but he did it to himself. I think if nothing else his plight should be a wakeup call for other young men who are faced with his situation. Making excuses for him and feeling sorry for him tends to deminish that lesson. Like many young men he felt that the world owed him something...he was wrong.

No sense in arguing with some of these guys, they must know Clarett personally so they know for a fact the kid hasn't changed. He made one lousy teenage mistake in his life and now he muct be labeled a loser for the remainder of it. I'm just glad I get to talk with such perfectionists, guys that have never committed a sigle act of wrong in their lives. I wish I could say the same, but I was a typical teenager and actually did things that were considered wrong. Guess these guys calling Clarett a loser must think the same of anyone else that has done something wrong in their life. These guys were never young and immature.

Not saying that at all, but what does anyone really know about the kid? Labeling him a loser and a bust before he even has a chance to show what he can do? Going into his sophmore year at OSU he was the heisman frontrunner, not exactly loserville. Then he had a bout of immaturity (something most teenagers come into contact with from time to time) and lied to the police and NCAA investigators. I for one believe he lied to the NCAA investigators to help protect the school. I wouldn't say he has done alot of negative things, some yes, but alot, c'mon now.

No one doubts Randy Moss' talents, but a huge majority of people who post here expressed a dislike of trading for him for character reasons.
No one doubts Ray Lewis either. A lot of people don't like him either.
Deion Sanders was a Cowboy. Many do not like him.
Two years ago Terrell Suggs had a brush with the law where he was supposedly a victim who got the better end of the fight and people wanted no part of drafting him.
The bottom line is that some people have a right to express their honest opinions about how they feel about players with "baggage." The media has a fascination with reporting player's dirty laundry. The media has a fascination with Clarett. Therefore he has garnered a lot of negative press and he comes off looking bad. Like it or not that is going to negatively affect people's opinions of him. That is their right. They have an inalienable right not to like a player.
Is it hurting you or any other poster emotionally or physically that people genuinely have misgivings about a plyer with so many red flags waving? Let's be brutally honest here. It has been 2 years since he last did anything right as it pertains to the game of football. That was when he helped OSU to a win over Miami in the Fiesta Bowl. I was at that game. I know the kid has talent.
I still hope we let someone else deal with him and all of his baggage. I just don't want anything to do with him. If he ends up here I will root for him just like I do every player wearing that star, but right now he does not wear it and I have the right to say or write anything I want to about why I hope we avoid him like the plague, and I do.
I genuinely apologize if that hurts you or anyone else in some way. Blame it on my username, everyone else does.
Bottom line, sometimes it pays to heed the warning signs. Plenty of them to see with this kid if one just chooses to open their eyes. Lawrence Phillips had unreal talent too. Unrealized talent is alomst a proverb.
I hope we pass.

I understand about people having the right to express their opinions about a player or players. I am one that don't care much for Deion even though he was a great player when he played for us.
I know that those stating Clarett is a loser, punk and a bust is their opinion of the guy and it's definitely not hurting me in any way, shape or form. I would just like to know their infinite wisdom that allows them to know the guy is going to be a bust before he has even played a down. I am not coming in here saying he is going to be the next Walter, Emmitt, Bo or Barry, but I'm not saying he's going to be the next Lawerence Phillips, Ki-Jana Carter or Blair Thomas either. He had crappy combine times, but so did Priest Holmes. He hasn't played football in 2 years, but Henson hadn't played in 3 and Antonio Gates hadn't played since his senior year in high school, no college ball at all.
Also not saying that I want the Cowboys to draft him, hell I don't want the Cowboys to take him because I want him to go somewhere he has a shot at starting. I am not saying he hasn't made some mistakes in his life and taken advantage of his talents, but I'm also not ready to throw him out of the NFL because of those mistakes.

It's really just as simple as what I have already said. People have opinions and express them. Getting bent out of shape because people do that makes me wonder what attracts people to forums in the 1st place. I mean let's be serious here. Anyone who comes to this or any forum expecting all of the membership and fandom to be 100% in agreement, holding hands, and cyber slapping each other on the backs all the time because no one disagrees, is living in a fantasyland.
I wouldn't want to be on a forum where everyone agrees with me all the time. That just sounds boring as hell. Like I always say that's vanilla and I hate vanilla. Defend him all you like, but don't be surprised when others don't see it exactly as you do.
I think he'll be a constant headache for any team that takes him because he doesn't care about anything other than his reflection in the mirror. He proves that at every turn. I seriously doubt he could ever be part of a "team."

I don't have any infinite wisdom that says he won't be a bust, he may very well be the next Blair Thomas or Ki-Jana Carter or he may be the next Julius Jones, none of us really know. What I'm not saying is this guy is going to be this or that, all I am saying is those who say he is definitely going to be a bust don't know squat. It would be the same as me coming in here and saying he is going to be the best RB ever and is going to break all of Emmitt's records. How fast would people be to tell me I was nuts? But could anyone prove me wrong? Nope.
Trust me I am definitely NOT getting bent out of shape over anyone saying he is going to be a bust. My life has much more meaning than worrying about what some people think about player A or player B. I think you're reading way too much into my posts if you think I am taking anyone seriously enough to get bent out of shape. I realize we all have opinions and sometimes they are going to be the same, that's fine. I just want someone to give me solid reasoning behind saying he is going to be a definite bust other than he's a loser, a punk or a thug. No one has done that thus far. The haters such as yourself are simply reading each others comments and saying yeah he's a loser because he only cares about himself. Where are you guys actually coming up with this stuff? Do you have your own insight or your own source inside the NFL telling you this stuff or are you simply pulling it out of you arse?

My entire point was, and is, people are going to express positive and negative opinions about every player. The more red flags a player has, the more negative the slant (inside joke) to the negative will be. What is so hard to understand or accept about that?
People are wrong about players every day of the week. All of us are. Not a single person on here can look you in the eye and say he bats 1.000 on his scouting abilities. It can't be done.
Claret has done enough stupid things to garner some very real negative feedback. If he can shut me and others up more power to him.
I will always have an issue with someone wanting to take away mine or anyone else's right to say what we want with regards to our feelings about a player's prospects in Dallas. That is the vibe that comes across when you start questioning a whole group of people just because they happen to agree on something.

I agree, Clarett has made his share of mistakes which will cause people to question his character. Does the fact that he lied to the police and NCAA investigators mean he's going to be an NFL bust though? See that's my point, people are grabbing onto his mistakes and labeling him a definite NFL bust. I prefer to look at his stats from his freshman season at Ohio State and say he has the potential to be a good NFL RB. Maybe not great, but he has potential there.
I wasn't questioning anyone's right to express their opinions, again you're reading way too much into my post. I just want someone to give me some facts as to why they think he's going to be an NFL bust other than his mistakes. If you're going to have an opinion then please have some reasons behind it. His mistakes point to definite character issues, but his stats point to that he can't be labeled a definite bust as some are saying.

The lying to the police has nothing to do with his football abilities. However, it says a lot about his possible character. If you want to know the truth, I wasn't all that appalled at that. I do feel like he turned his back on his team. That is very hard for me to forgive. I also feel like he has put himself above his team. Again, very hard for me to forgive.
He could be a smashing success in the NFL and I would prefer he do it on another team for those 2 reasons alone. Understand something about me here. Team means more to me than individual players. That is why I never liked Barry Sanders and would never want him on my team even at his peak. In my opinion the main reason why the Lions never won zip is directly proportional to his selfish style of refusing to run between the tackles. At some point in time a RB has to sacrifice for the hard yard. He never would. He left his team 2nd and long or 3rd and long way too much to be considered a true asset to a team. If you aren't an asset, then you are a liability. I was not the least bit surprised that when he screwed his team by leaving when he did that they won more games.
If he ever is part of a Super Bowl winning team I doubt it will be as a centerpiece of that team unless dumb luck plays a part. I am that convinced that me first players, no matter how talented, are not worth it.
Now, when you add all the extra baggage to those two things...well, then you end up with a player I would prefer to avoid like the plague. Which is exactly where I stand on Clarett. For your information up until recently I had a sinking feeling we would end up with him. If we do I will still root for him.
I'd just rather not all things being equal.

I see it like this: Clarett has great football ability, but his off the field antics and refusal of authority makes me question his devotion and how he can cope with the NFL. I wouldnt touch him in the draft.

I'd like to wait and see what he does with his private workouts before writing him off.
It doesn't matter what any of us think of him and I would hope most of it's not personal. He does have baggage. He does seem able to play.
My interest in him is I'd like to see him overcome all this adversity and have a successful career. Everyone deserves a second chance. I'd also like to see him fall far enough for us to take a flyer on him as an UDFA. But I won't think twice if he goes elsewhere.
He'll get a chance at least once more. Somewhere.
