Who do you take?
I take Mike Williams, no question.
He would be another piece along with Julius, and Witten, in putting the shine back into the Star.
Merriman. Or Derrick Johnson but he'd probably be gone by then.

If youd pick MW over DJ you dont deserve to be a Cowboys fan.

Really!
That has got to be one of the most idiotic statements I have ever read.
I bleed blue, and have for 25 years! Why would you even make a comment like that?
Makes no sense what so ever.
Please, never question my devotion, and allegance to the Cowboys!
Sorry, but I am not that high on DJ.
I would take Williams, Edwards, and Merriman over DJ.
Sorry, but he makes plays, but he gives them up to.

1: Hes a LB, he isnt assigned to many things where he could give up big plays. He does not give up big plays AT ALL when he is assigned to cover someone however. Strike one.
2: If he is in a position to make a tackle, he makes it. He simply does not miss tackles. I watched 9 Longhorn games this year and never saw him even come close. Strike 2.
3: DJ is unarguably THE best defensive player in this years draft. To think otherwise is ignorant. Either you havent seen him play or just dont pay attention. Strike 3.
If youd pick MW over DJ you dont deserve to be a Cowboys fan.LMAO. Call me a no good cowboy fan than HH, Id take MW, and Im a longhorn fan!

I really hope JJ and BP havent hopped on MW nuts like many on this board have.

Strike 3.I agree with your last statement, but you say them like they are facts, they are not. The fact is DJ struggles when teams are running right at him, he will never make it as a MLB and will have difficulty being a Strong side LB. He is a playmaker, and I would be ecstatic if we got him (he is second on my board), but I would take MW in a heartbeat.

Evidentally your panties are all in a knot over DJ.
Johnson is a good player, I never said he was not. I just like a few guys better.
And, yes I saw DJ play at least 15 times over the last few years, and he can bring it. He is a very good LBer.
But, if you say you never saw DJ miss a tackle, you are either lying, or do not know what you are seeing.
Derrick does miss some tackles, and even avoids contact at times. When you miss tackles, that sometimes leads to giving up big plays, especially in the NFL.
Also, I am not the only one who has seen this, it actually is one of the only knocks on him, probably the only one. He is a good player, yes, but he is not like the second coming of LT.
He would not be a bad pick, so don't think I am saying that, but much depends on who is available, and what front we run.
Regardless, what does any of this have to do with me deserving to be a Cowboy fan?
Or for that matter the other 60 plus% of Fans on this board, who according to you do not deserve the be Cowboy Fans.

He doesnt need to be a MLB, however at 6'4'' 235 he is much bigger than Zach Thomas, Dat Nguyen, and several other MlBs. Those guys have done pretty well. He would florish as an OLB though, especially with his 4.5 speed.

That is one HUGE "what if". Even those teams ahead of us that got WR's before the free agent market has come into affect would still take Mike Williams. He's young, big, and physical. "BPA".

I say we take him
In other words, there's no way we repeat the 1998 Moss incident

Option 5:
Trade down a couple of spots.

Merriman. We need some people that can rush the passer.

Actually, if all 4 are there at #11, I'm on the phone looking to drop a few spots to add a 3rd rd pick, because all 4 can help us.

It makes perfect sense to me. We already have MW, and his name is Keyshawn Johnson. DJ can help s so much more than MW. By picking MW over DJ, you are holding back our franchise.

Sorry, I dont. Though my most was leaning more towards sarcasm, trying to prove a point that you would be holding us back.

I'd take defense because you can't win games if you can't stop the other team from scoring. IMHO, our WRs are not that bad, we can address that spot in FA or the draft next year.

i think we will avoid the question by filling our WR need thru FA, since by many accounts the top two WR will be gone by 11 anyway. what this teams needs more than anything is to put pressure on opposing QBs - someone with the speed to catch mcnabb instead of chase him around for 15 seconds!!! our first pick if we don't trade down (and even if we do) will be either a DE or LB since i think OL needs will also be filled thru FA, as will CB...
with the 20 pick, i think we'll go RT or LB...

Going strickly on playmaking ability and upside. It would easily be...
Williams
Merriman
Spears

1. Mike Williams: simply a freak. Let some other team make the mistake of taking the burner with hands of stone. I'll take the next TO.
2. Marcus Spears: terrific athlete and highly productive. Perhaps most importantly, he can play any spot on the line (DT in a 4-3; DE in a 3-4), which will be useful if the Cowboys show as many packages as I think they will.
3. Shawn Merriman: another terrific athlete who produces. As between he and DJ the biggest differences are (a) his ability to rush the passer, and (b) his versatility (4-3 DE or 3-4 LB).
4. DJ: had a great college career, no doubt. But I just can't seem to get past his tendency to shy away from direct contact.

You HONESTLY think Marcus Spears is a better playmaker tham Derrick Johnson? I could MAYBE see someone saying MW is, Merriman is a stretch, but Spears?

1. MW - Don't think Bledsoe wouldn't be happy.
2. DJ - He simply makes plays. He'd be a great player for us regardless of scheme.
3. SM - His size is impressive alone. What position does he play? I wouldn't shed any tears if we drafted him at #11. I think he has enormous potential.
4. MS - I am underwhelmed by Spears. If we got him at #20, I could live with that, but not at #11, not with so many potential playmakers still on the board.

He is a ball hawk, plain and simple.Yes he is, if only people would realize how horrible the defensive end in front of him was. Talk about a player making EVERYONE around him better, that's DJ. Did you see the play against Tech when he passed two of Texas' defensive backs to run down a Tech receiver? Wow. I'm really,Really interested to see his 40 time at the combine. I hope he doesn't run though, for selfish reasons of course.
