In our further attempts to read meaning into games involving a team that started 1-7 and has a coach who has the "interim" tag before his name, I catch myself spending quite a bit of my time after each game trying to place the big picture in the frame for this franchise.

The fact is, it is very dangerous to over-value small sample sizes that are sometimes subject to emotional highs or just simple anomalies that cannot and will not be repeated.

Are the Cowboys 3-1 (and perhaps a freak play away from 4-0) because Jason Garrett is a genius? Or, are they where they are because the team just needed a change - any change - at the head coaching position to free them from the doldrums of the Wade Phillips era?

This is a great read. It's a nice summary (without being overly opinionated) of all the issues floating around this board regarding the team. He asks questions without taking definitive positions about issues that are still difficult to sort out.

He's spot on about the talent evaluation miscues that continue with this team, even with Garrett. I don't know why this team has so much trouble getting the best 22 on the field.

Garrett is doing a great job.

The talent evaluation comments are my biggest concern with JG. I honestly believe he is the one who hasn't wanted to play Choice (I don't think Jerry dictates playing time or who starts).

Although I will say I think McCann got a little lucky. If things are wide open around the edge he is good, but he struggles to pick his spots up the middle.

Yeah. That's a real problem. We heard the BS from Wade about Lee not being able to cover. And then the nonsense from Jerry's mouth about Choice not being a good special team's player– So that's why he's not getting any carries.

I'd like to know who else is sitting on the bench who could be out-playing the current starters on this team.

I think Jerry backed off on his Choice statement in a pre-game interview with Kristi Scales.

Don't forget also that Free didn't get his chance until Columbo went down last year.
