When you get rid of the ridiculous rumors, message board hype and off-shoot internet site news, there really isn't any big news involving the Cowboys and free agency or trades. We already missed out on the best receiver in the NFL (Moss), and we look to be off the charts of maybe the two best corners in free agency (Rolle and Law). We haven't really been linked to any bigtime linemen yet.
Fellas, the shooting hasn't started, but I get the feeling that Jerry Jones and Bill Parcells are going to approach free agency this year exactly like they did last year. They'll find a few cheap free agents and mostly rely on the draft. Don't be surprised if the Cowboys don't make any big moves this offseason other than a new QB.
I would have hoped they learned their lesson last year when they missed out on guys like Bert Berry but somehow I feel that they are intent on building this team through the draft. I guess that ain't a bad thing but I will be disappointed if we don't take advantage of some of the positions that have several skilled players available.

Nope, the Cowboys will be players in free agency. Drew Bledsoe will not be our biggest move. Next question.

Given the fact Free Agency hasn't even officially started yet...nope.

I think when all is said and done, they'll look at the Bledsoe signing as one of the more important ones.

Why not wait until FA starts and then ask that question? I can pretty much guarantee Bledsoe will not be the only big signing, but I don't think we're gonna be tossing money at guys like it was pre-salary cap either. Call it calculated aggression.
I think your being a bit dramatic here.
I really didn't want Rolle because A, he is older, B, He is coming off a knee injury, and C, he ihasn't been very productive.
We are going to do something big this offseason, i would almost guarantee it.
We will get a very good corner. We will land a DT and a LBer.
Who they are, I don't know.
We could also make some noise in the draft.
I just think that by Wednesday you will have a different tune.

I hope I'm wrong but I remember how optimistic we all were at the beginning of last offseason and then how disappointed we were when all was said and done. The Cowboys are either being very secretive or they really have no intentions of going after some of the more expensive players because except for that crazy link to Randy Moss, I really haven't seen the Cowboys linked to any former Pro Bowlers types other than Drew Bledsoe.

Bledsoe will probaly be the biggest name we bring here this FA. But I think you will see the Boys go after 2 top offensive linemen in FA which will be a real good move. Dont be surprised to see Lucas or Smoot here and another player on D.
We need a better OL. It isnt as fun to be goin after OL but when they give Julius more holes to break throu and us more time to throw it will be really good.

I wouldn't be suprised to see as many as three 'upgrade' signings within the week. I'd say Vegas odds are pretty good that Bill and Jerry have learned from last year's debacle.

I, for one, wouldn't be surprised if he IS the biggest move this off-season.
I can see them saying after free-agent after free-agent is snapped up: "Well, he wanted WAAAY too much money and we were willing to take part in that."
It will be a series like that. Sure, we'll get a "minor" player here and there, but nothing drastic.
We'll have alot of "rumors" going around that we are in talks with so-and-so, but after all is said and done, I have a feeling that this off-season will go out with a wimper, unfortunately.
They have to prove me wrong. They didn't last year and now they have another chance at it.
Evidently, Pace was/is on the trading block....Dallas hasn't even been mentioned as far as I can tell. He would have helped on the line.
That's just one example.....

I wouldnt be surprised to see 2 new offensive linemen within the 1st 2 or 3 days. Count on it.

Pace is a Poston's player, you make that trade and all our cap room goes POOF.
Moss would have been the same thing, we don't need a WR bad enough to spend half our cap and give up picks and defensive players to land him.
Both of those moves, while being flashy, would actually make us WORSE.
I think Bledsoe will be far from the biggest FA we sign. They got the vet bus driver out of the way, we will sign an OL, DL, and LB on the 3rd.

Ok let's look at the facts.
Jerry Jones himself has stated to the press that they look to be very active in free agency.
We have a ton of money to blow under the cap.
Parcells wants to win now.
The team needs a lot of upgrades.
Put those together and I don't see how you would think Bledsoe will be our biggest move. Patience grasshopper. This week will be fun, and I bet we burst out of the gates.

You nailed it. 2+2 = 4 .. and Jerry has already said the Cowboys will be very active in free agency. When you set expectations for your fan base that way, you have no choice but to live up to them. Trust me, there will be some quality players added to this team in the off-season. Jerry and Bill are reloading, this team will be competitive next year.

I guess the main reason why I write all of this is because I think Randy Moss is the only big name I've seen the Cowboys linked to and I'm not even sure that was ever confirmed. I think a lot of us are hyped for free agency because of all these threads with unfounded rumors. When you sort out the mess, you really don't find any confirmed Cowboy links to high quality free agents or players available vai trade. I'm not saying the Cowboys have to go for the guys who take first round draft picks and cap busting salaries but I'd like to at least see that the Cowboys are interested in some of them. I would like to know that Jerry and Bill explored their options to see if it was possible.

We have the most tight-lipped, paranoid coach in NFL history; do you actually think that if we had an interest in a player it would be known?
Chill, and let things happen when free agency actually starts on the 3rd.

We are not a championship competing team. We have MANY needs, not just one or two. Therefor, we're not gonna break the bank on one or two names. When it's said we will be a big player in FA, it's referring to us signing multiple names in the upper tier rather than only a couple in the top. I for one agree with this approach because we need alot of help.
I'd much rather sign a starting CB, DT, LB, OT and FS than get one or 2 big name guys at CB and WR.

Well look at this way.
There's no way to go but up after the "big" signings last year of Wiley and George. They couldn't possibly do any worse.

Yeah, but that's what I kept telling myself last year when we weren't signing anyone other than Keyshawn. :D
We'll see... I truly hope I'm wrong. I would love nothing more than this to be a chicken little thread. :quack:

A little soon to be making that assessment considering free agency hasn't even begun yet.

Just messin' with ya Rack.
I'm allowed at least one chicken little thread to relieve any anxiety I feel about the Cowboys and their lack of appearances in early free-agent signing rumors. :D

I think that's what we should keep in mind. LAST off-season. I find it hard to fathom JJ & Tuna repeating last off-season's tactic. Here are my FA signing predictions come March 2nd:
1. Ken Lucas-CB
2. Jason Ferguson-NT/DT
3. Dwight Smith-FS
4. Kendrell Bell-ILB
