I hope it's Lucas and not Smoot. I can't stand the thought of an ex-foreskin on the team... Seriously though, I think Lucas has the "physical measurables" that Tuna prefers in a CB. My bet is Lucas over Smoot BUT as long as we upgrade at CB, I'll be happy..... :skins:

*Pete Hunter for Free Safety! Anyone with me???

I will go out on a limb and say Henry, who has the ties with the new DB coach...Good size & play making ability...

Yes, lets get Hunter at FS!

I'm with you, but not as the starting safety.

Speaking of which, this team needs more depth in the secondary. Yes, I'd sign a Lucas or a Rolle but I'd also bring in a Mario Edwards or Bobby Taylor (expected to be released). Injuries are common in the secondary, and we'd be one injury away from the same secondary as last year.

Smoot thinks he's better than he is and talks alot. I think he is a liability, but he's worked himself into being a decent starter. Better than Mario Edwards, anyway.

Yea, I don't care for Smoot much either. I would prefer Lucas. I think that's who we'll be getting soon... Lucas.

I dunno, Hunter may surprise us at FS. Anyway, let's sign a vet safety and let him and Hunter go at it in TC. NOT too keen on Taylor though; wasn't he injured for most of the year? That makes about two years in a row he's missed lots of games to injuries. Maybe if he signed for 3 peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches, then I'd think twice about it.....naaah :D

*Pete Hunter for Free Safety! Anyone with me???Dale (the guy who started this thread and who writes for DC.com and attends TC) was telling a group of us last night that te Coaches do not think Hunter can play Safety at this level.

There's another way to look at it if we end up with Smoots, we took him away from Napoleon and made him spend 15 large in a signing bonus on an often injured, less talented, CB who has had recent bad pub along with injuries.

JT was as right as rain, I would love that draft in your sig line. My wife wouldn't walk for a week. 13 posts since April isn't enough, join the party.

Lucas and Henry are my top two as well, but at this point give me any one of them...

I hear ya Portland. No more sitting back during free agency picking our noses and watching everyone else improve.

Color me skeptical, but I don't really want Baxter either. Is he an upgrade? Sure. Does he have great size? No doubt.

But I don't want to hand out that kind of money for a guy who is considered in a lot of minds better suited for safety than cornerback. He's doing a fine job at corner, but I don't think he's come close to proving himself as a $10 million signing bonus kind of guy. And from the sound of things, he has no interest in being a full-time safety.

I wouldn't mind Smoot. I think he's a terrific player, though my concern is he's never had to be the Skins' #1 corner. Even though he'd be the #2 here, if we were to hypothetically sign him, we'd be handing out what amounts to #1 money. I don't know that you do that for a guy who has always had a Pro Bowl caliber guy opposite him.

Couldn't agree with ya more on both players Dale. I just don't see Baxter doing that well here. The guy struggled to be consistent when surrounded by playmakers in Bmore, no way do we have that type of talent here so I assume he would struggle even more here.

Smoot is a fine No. 2 as you said, but he isn't look for #2 money and I'm sure he doesn't see himself as a No. 2. That being said, any good corner we sign we will most likely overpay just to bring them here.

HH, Bill is not going to play Hunter at FS for now and he is not going to fire Zimmer.

I want you to repeat this to yourself everytime you think of either.

That way your brain will be going in circles. :)

We have to get you a new mantra. ;)

Agreed. That's why in another post I said I prefer Smoot to Lucas, though Lucas' upside is that overpaying for him will require less money than overpaying for Smooth.

But if I had my way and the money was equal, I'd certainly take Smoot. Trufant seems to be Seattle's #1 guy, and before him Lucas was playing next to Springs as well.

I don't consider Lucas in Smoot's class, but Smoot will probably no doubt be way out of our market.

The sadest part in the latest Redskins financial menage a trois is that Smoot would love to stay with the Skins. Coles would love to take their money and whine for a trade. Samuels just wants the money he signed for. Very sad.

That said geting Smoot for second corner money (doubtful early) would be a good deal. He has heart, he is young, he is a cover corner and he is crazy enough to move up and take on the run just like his mentor D Green taught him to. Towards the end of the season Smoot got knocked silly about three times. But he always tryed to return to the field. I admire the gameness in that. Bill might also. He is not a great or overwhealming CB but if we ask him to cover the second guy he could do very well against most teams. Plus do us a world of good.

Great price if true. I do like Smoot. But I do not expect Dallas to sign Smoot for that price. We need to give Adam 24 hours or so and see what he thinks about our reported signings and what we can continue to spend on FAs.
