1. The Ecstasy of Gold from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
NOKhQ8ObQ7E

The other theme from G.B.U. is probably better known, but this is the song I think of when I think of the movie. The way the song builds is epic by definition.

2. Jurassic Park Theme by John Williams from Jurassic Park
D8zlUUrFK-M

I still remember the first scheme where they show all the dinosaurs running through the plain, completely blew my mind. The CGI still holds up even today. John Williams is responsible for so many classics though, so hard to pick just one.

3. James Bond Theme - James Bond
wupY8LfAtHI

To me it's one of the most iconic themes in all of cinema, they could use this as the opening theme to every James Bond movie till the end of time and it would never get old.

I forgot to add that to my "Christmas got" list. I got a 4 DVD set that has Fist Full of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and Hang'em High.

Was this in the newly released A-Team movie?

Starwars is up there, but the rest are really subjective.

Basil Poledouris has done quite a few soundtracks with the traditional orchestra sound (meaning not songs being sung) that has that big booming type of dramatic presence in them. Really think he does a great job in the genre.

Can't really separate them in my mind, but both the Rocky Theme and Eye of the Tiger are epic:

Back to the Future Theme... very underrated:

Also, I think these videos have been posted here before, but they're still great.

Once you hear them, you can't listen to them again without thinking of the "lyrics."

You could probably just make this a John Williams thread...

My wife's favorite, she could watch the movie every day and not get bored of it, but yeah that's a great one.

Just musically (setting aside any iconic value i.e. Superman or Star Wars) some of my absolute favorites are:

I love it so well that it have it on my ipod/iphone.

Here's one that will not make a lot of favorites' list because it is very basic:

John Carpenter's The Thing

It's really a glorified rendition of a human heartbeat, but I love it nonetheless.

My favorites:

1. True Grit (original, 1969). I believe Glen Campbell won a Grammy for the main theme song.

2. Cahill: U.S. Marshal: "A Man Gets To Thinkin'" by Charlie Rich.

3. Forrest Gump. The pretty piano melody.

4. Sudden Impact. The fourth of the Dirty Harry movies. Great theme song in the opening.

1) Requiem for a Dream - Summer Overture

Another great one, I love that song.

I'd also add Mad World (the Donnie Darko version), but I'm not sure it qualifies as an original film theme.
