There was another article that said Wahle projected better as a Tackle than guard. Any interest as our new RT?
As expected, Green Bay Packers release Wahle
March 1, 2005
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers cut left guard Mike Wahle on Tuesday to gain $11 million of cap room.
The team also cut center Grey Ruegamer, who filled in when Mike Flanagan went down with a season-ending knee injury in the first month of last season.
The Packers re-signed wide receiver/kick returner Antonio Chatman and defensive end R-Kal Truluck to one-year deals and they tendered offers to six restricted free agents: tackle Kevin Barry, running back Najeh Davenport, defensive end Aaron Kampman, linebacker Paris Lenon and quarterbacks Craig Nall and J.T. O'Sullivan.
Wahle was the Packers' starter at left guard for the last four seasons and played in 103 consecutive games. He helped the Packers establish franchise records in total net yards (6,357) and net passing yards (4,449), and its franchise low for sacks allowed (14).
But because of the way his contract was structured, his cap number for 2005 was a prohibitive $11.337 million, second only to quarterback Brett Favre.

I wouldn't mind signing Wahle one bit. His versatility is a big plus.

I bet this guy and his agent will be asking for some serious cash.
However he is the type of player that bill would like due to his versatility.

It is my understanding he can play OT as well. Let's get him in here tomorrow.
Young, talented and versatile. I certainly wouldn't complain.

I read elsewhere that Najeh Davenport, (the pooping bandit) is going to get tendered at the lowest level, which I believe was a fourth or fifth rounder for whoever signs him. He may be a good option as the bruiser, change of pace back BP wants.

This is the kind of Free Agent I hope we will go after.

He is arguable one of the best overall OL-men in the NFL, IMO. I bet he has a very nice payday.

Wahle has too many things going against him for us to sign him.
1. Parcells does not know him.
2. He is under 30.

If I remember right, his roster bonus is not due until something like March 12th.
It does not look like the Packers want to pay it, so I think it is possible he is still released, just not yet.
At least that is what I thought I read.

Me too, Wahle would be a very nice pickup, no doubt.
The problem is I have about 10 guys I am ready to sign.
And then another 10 I would not mind either.
I guess I will be happy if we come away with 3 or 4 of them.

I've started 2 or 3 threads about Wahle... hoping that Parcells will read them when lurking this site...
This would be a KEY acquisition for us... no... it is not a sexy signing... but it is rock solid and neccessary...
Wahle's versatility and intelligence would go a LONG way... plus he's a Navy grad... so we know he can remember snap counts (shout out to Flozell)

I would absolutely love for us to sign Wahle. He's the perfect type to grab in free agency. Just pay him and plug him in. Starter for years, smart, hardworking, versitile, mobile. Really there isn't anything not to like about him except the price tag.
He's not a stopgap, and he isn't some high-priced superstar. He's just a very good OL that will be with the team for years to come.
Plug him in at G and let Peterman, Allen, and Gurode fight it out to see who starts at the other G position. Larry's gonna be gone real soon and we need a good replacement.
Just like we never looked back or thought twice signing Glover, I don't think we'd ever regret paying a good sum to get him on our team.
Get a RT to go with him and our OL would instantly be one of the better in the league.
I really wish we'd sign him. Young. Good. Smart. Work ethic. Exactly the type we need to build around.

I say plug him at RG...next year move him to LG and never look back. If Peterman is any good he can take over RG in 2006.
