This is bad. Really, really bad. My prayers go out to her and her family. She seems like an excellent woman who was just serving her country the way she thought was right.

I am all for standing up to our elected officials, but violence should never be the answer in our country.

The sad thing is that if this kid that shot her is tied to any right-wing movement of anysort, the Tea Party is going to be held responsible.

If I remember correctly - Sarah Palin had a section on her website back in March dedicated to 'targeting' blue-dog dems who she wanted the Tea Party to vote out of office. IF Giffords is on that list, the **** is going to hit the fan.

EDIT: http://tpmlivewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/palin-uses-crosshairs-to-identify-dems-who-voted-for-health-care-reform.php She was.

EDIT again: I know that Palin isn't advocating for the execution of politicians, and I'm not inferring it. If this shooting was politically motivated, this will definitively play a role in the investigation. I just remember the backlash she got by posting this map, and now that an act of violence has happened on someone that the right has already targeted in recent elections, the mainstream media pundits on the left are going to take it and run with it.

By TERRY TANG, AMANDA LEE MYERS and DAVID ESPO, Associated Press Terry Tang, Amanda Lee Myers And David Espo, Associated Press – 20 mins ago
TUCSON, Ariz. – Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head Saturday when an assailant opened fire outside a grocery store during a meeting with constituents, killing at least five people and wounding several others in a rampage that rattled the nation.

Giffords was among at least 10 people wounded, and the hospital said her outlook was "optimistic" and that she was responding to commands from doctors. The hospital said a 9-year-old child was among the killed, and a U.S. Marshal said a federal judge was also fatally shot in the attack.

Yahoo has updated the story. Now six people have lost their lives. So sad.

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said Giffords was the target of a gunman whom he described as mentally unstable and possibly acting along with an accomplice. He said Giffords was among 13 people wounded in the melee that killed six people, including Arizona's chief federal judge, a 9-year-old girl and an aide for the Democratic lawmaker. He said the rampage ended only after two people tackled the gunman.

At this point, I'd like to hear more about the victims than the shooter. It's pretty clear he's a nutjub.

Official I went to high school & college, & was in a band w/ the gunman. I can't even fathom this right now.

He was a political radical & met Giffords once before in '07, asked her a question & he told me she was "stupid & unintelligent"

the question was odd & didn't make sense, I can't remember what it was. Just know it was weird.

he was a pot head & into rock like Hendrix,The Doors, Anti-Flag. I haven't seen him in person since '07 in a sign language class

As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal. & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy.

he had a lot of friends until he got alcohol poisoning in '06, & dropped out of school. Mainly loner very philosophical.

more left. I haven't seen him since '07 though. He became very reclusive.

I haven't seen him since '07. Then, he was left wing.

Did GMA(+ ABC Radio) & The Today Show. No more interviews. I said how I knew Jared, & my shock at this incident. Now to reflect & pray.

I do not condone anything Jarod has done, it is horrific. I'm still in shock & haven't stopped shaking since the news.

I voted for Giffords & came into this story wondering what kind of evil could do this. Sadly, I know him, & I'm not proud of that.

Yahoo updated story with the names of all those who lost their lives

Dupnik said Giffords was among 13 people wounded in the melee that killed six people — including 9-year-old Christina Greene, 30-year-old Gifford aide Gabe Zimmerman, and U.S. District Judge John Roll. The 63-year-old judge had just stopped by to see his friend Giffords after attending Mass. Dupnik said the rampage ended only after two people tackled the gunman. Also killed were 76-year-old Dorthy Murray, 76-year-old Dorwin Stoddard, and 79-year-old Phyllis Scheck, investigators said.

He talks about defining terrorism, and he says the government doesn't follow its constitution. He wants to create a new currency. He babbles about not believing in anything, and that he would not trust in God.

interesting story, she hired an intern 6 days ago, that intern probably saved her life. after she was shot, and while people around him where getting shot, he took her head in his lap and put pressure on both wounds and talked to her to try and keep her conscious telling her to squeeze his arm and things like that.

This is heartbreaking. Their neighbor took her to the event to meet Giffords. The neighbor is one of the ones clinging to life.

The neighbor's husband got a call to rush to the hospital and he called the little girl's Mom and told her as well. At the time neither knew what had happened.

On the way to the hospital the husband heard the news of the shooting. The little girl's Mom did not turn on the radio. She thought perhaps they had been in a car wreck.

Very well could have been after she was shot, there is known by hackers an exploit that they can force some actions on someone else's account. I know of people forcing favorite videos on another person's account to embarrass them.

Also subscribing is not "contacting" anyone it is just clicking on a button in their account to get any new videos on that channel(account). That makes it sound like they had to be some kind back and forth between them, it doesn't mean anything.

The little girl who was killed. Her name was Christina Greene.

TUCSON - The identity of the 9-year-old tragically killed in this morning's deadly rampage is Christina Taylor Greene.

Family says she was vibrant, excited about life, and she was the "best daughter in the world."

Born on September 11, 2001, Greene was excited about the political process, was on the student government, and went to the Giffords event today to learn more about the political process, family members say.

Greene attended Mesa Verde Elementary School. She was the only girl on the CDO baseball team - she loved the sport, as well as horseback riding and swimming.

Makes you sometimes wonder what the plan is, for a sweet, innocent child to be senselessly taken. So sad, just a waste.
May her family be comforted in knowing that the thoughts and prayers of the people of the USA are with her.

maps like that have been done by both sides over the years. You watch: there will be those that want to blame something like that instead of the POS that pulled the trigger.
Surprise. The New York Times has already gone there. There was a time when that paper had some integrity, but that time passed long ago. Sadly, that is the norm now and they are just one of the crowd on both sides of the politcal aisle. But I guess there was a time when I would have expected more from them.

I'm trying to decipher some of his babbling for some sort of motive. Be it political or what have you. I'm getting nowhere.

I mean... his favorite books are mein kampf and the communist manifesto. Polar opposite in terms of political spectrum.

He talks about defining terrorism, and he says the government doesn't follow its constitution. He wants to create a new currency. He babbles about not believing in anything, and that he would not trust in God.

He is clearly insane, and talks in circles. Schizophrenic circles.
Those books are absolutley not the polar opposites politically--they both have many simularities and subscribe to a centralized, all powerful govenment for starters.

I completely agree with you that this guy sounds (at the very least )borderline Schitzo.

They had a long segment and interview on Fox this morning with a lady who took a college class with this murderer and it was chilling to listen to her talk about what a disturbed kid he was and how she worried about her own safety in that class; she said in an email that he was the type to do something like this.

Now here's a lady that didn't know him and it was obvious that he was loony.

In an interview with local reporters one of the men who held this guy down said the only thing he said was, "you're hurting my arm."

Like people should say, "oh sorry, about that. Let's all be more gentle while we hold down this assassin."

He's lucky the people holding him down were nice. I would have stood on one leg and held the other out as wide as I could and encouraged people to kick him in the pills until the cops got there.

They should care they were hurting your arm? No freak boy, they should have punched your jaw until you couldn't complain about the pain.

I love what one of the guys who subdued him said, "the only thing that will matter to him is the needle." At least his death will be humane.

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3267216&postcount=71The guy I testified for just came and visited me to see if I remembered this was the Judge at his trial. He said he hasn't slept well since this happened. He realizes that Judge Roll could have sent him away for 10 years and ultimately believed in him enough to give him a 2nd chance. I've never seen him so emotional. He said he may go to his funeral. I wouldn't blame him at all.

I don't even see why he did it, normally there is a vendetta like that guy at the school council.Just judging from the information coming out, I don't think an insanity defense would get very far. If they're finding things he wrote such as targeting Rep. Giffords, "I planned this alone," and the like, he's gonna fry.

He may very well be insane. But the insanity defense is only effective to avoid a conviction (and likely death penalty) if the insanity rendered him unable to realize what he was doing, and that it was wrong.

Just a knee-jerk opinion taken from snippets of information I've seen, so take it FWIW.

Well, I'm not a lawyer but from my understanding for an insanity defense to work, you must be able to demonstrate that the accused didn't know what he was doing was wrong. Since he left a note saying "Please don't be mad at me" he must have known what he was going to do was wrong.

And it's not just that he may have been legally insane at one point in time. If there was a plan, he would have to prove insanity at the time he developed the plan. Then he would have to prove insanity at the time he carried out the plan. And at all steps in between.

Hos, you've heard of the "he needed killing" defense. You could easily get a jury to go for that. He needed a good butt-whippin.

To even call them anything remotely related to true christians would be comical if it were not so sad. They represent the worst with their finger-pointing and grave stomping--and in the process drive more people away from Christianity than any atheist ever could.

They represent that remote 1% , yet some in the press will make it sound like they are some kind of norm...scary stuff.

this fringe is found in every religion (not just christianity) and is a big part of the violence in this world.

You can say it via PM to me.

I left a message with the Patriot Guard Riders. If they are coming (maybe not since these are not soldiers) I will ride with them. If they are not coming I will be part of the wings project to keep these jerks at bay.

I wish there was a way to find out where these creeps are staying. Picket those motels and follow them to any restaurant where they try to eat. They do not deserve food. They do not deserve lodging. They do not deserve respect. I wish there was a website that could tell you this information so rallies could be prepared to stop them.

Wish I lived over there to lend a hand...or a louisville slugger.

I can't stand those people either.

But don't you think that's just a little over the top?

If that was your 9 year old daughter, I'd imagine you'd be there with some gasoline.

Tuscon plans to shield the girl's funeral from those idiot church protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church:

I remembering them picketing funerals of people that died of AIDS, or funeral of gays, or soldiers, ... why this little girl ?

Because they are the worst kind of people. Blatantly using God to propagate hate. The fate that awaits them after they die is not one I would want to contemplate.

Now the fate of them prior to death, I would like to help with.

They better hope there isn't a God.

Probably so.

Still, I know you were sort of kidding, but I think we all know you don't kill people just for something they say, regardless of how wrong and horrible it is.

Oh so true....so they are out of luck.

BTW, where does it say those morons are going to picket this poor little child's funeral? Or is someone making this up?
