You do know I was being funny right?......The skins are not going to be the offseason champs this season......Gibbs has taken over. Snyder knows it.......

As long as they are able to continuously restructure contracts, they will probably never reach salary cap "hell". To me, they are in salary cap pergatory, because every year they have to release players or beg them to restructure just to get under the cap.
And the ticket prices go up, up, up, up, up...
And the wins go down, down, down, down, down....

Just as I always hoped that Bidwell would never sell the Cards when they were in the same division, I hope Danny never sells the Skins. Samuels was what, the third pack in the draft? At that spot and for that kind of money you better be in Ogden and (pre-injury) Boselli territory. Keep it up Danny, we love ya!

this was to free up cap space this year so they can trade Coles instead of releasing him- they have until midnight to release him without paying him a 5 million dollar roster bonus due to him.
I have a feeling that by the end of this week teams intentions will be a lot clearer- including our own.:D

I personally love it. I'd really love to see Coles released, but I'd be happy to see them trade him to the Jets for Santana Moss and then give him a massive signing bonus. He's mediocre, so you know the Skins would really open the wallet for him.
The Skins basically go sign people to massive contracts, then, 2 to 3 years later they release those same players. I can already name exactly who they will release next year. The Skins are stuck using their cap space just to keep their head above water. They've drafted FAR worse than us over the past 10 years.
If Ramsey can't step up, Gibbs' tenure looks bleak. They've worked REALLY much too hard to suck as much as they do.

Fail to the skinz, I can't possibly see an upside to this signing. :skins:

This is the most accurate phrase to describe the failure of the skins over the past 10 years plus. I love it. :skins:

They don't have the cap room to release Coles.

They don't have the cap room to release Coles.
Then they don't have the cap room to trade him.
The Skins are on the hook for the pro-rated signing bonus regardless of how they want to move him. The difference is Coles has expressed such a desire to get the heck out of Washington that he'd give back his signing bonus if he can be released and free to pick his team.
If the Skins are able to trade him, it is only because Coles is allowing it. He would be paying Washington his remaining signing bonus in return for the trading team "reimbursing" him with a new contract and a signing bonus of at least equal to what he gave up in Washington.

And this year, they're forced to keep a backup QB who proved to them last year that he has nothing left in the tank, not to mention a WR who wanted out of DC so bad he was willing to give back a 5 million dollar signing bonus if they'd cut him...
Yes, they'll be able to make a few moves in free agency, after getting Samuels to restructure... word is the first player they're gonna bring in is C Casey Rabach, and center IS one of their biggest holes...
They are still headed for a shipwreck with their cap situation, most likely next year...

They have the cap room to trade or release Coles not. That was part of the reason they needed to restructure Samuels so bad.
The ticket prices for the Redskins have been the same for several years now.
15.75M is a little more than I was hoping for, but....the needed cap relief is the reasoning behind it all.
Drafted far worse than the Cowboys over the last ten years ? Not really.

not nearly as shocking as when we gave Adams a new contract after his worst year as a starter???
Samuels, and all redskins linemen, struggled under spurrier's scheme, but he did better under Gibbs' and I'm sure Gibbs sees that he's worth it.

Man I just don't know... weren't they suppose to be in cap hell every year for the last 4-5 years

Don't you just love 'em?!?! Even the skins fans here are shaking their heads. And they signed a 7-year contract. I'm sure, in their clever little heads (cough), they think they can spread out that bonus. Just like they're spreading out Brunell's bonus. (cough again) Little Napoleon just can't get it right. They'd better hope to whoever that the new CBA ultimately has a HUGE cap to accomodate all the players (like Brunell) who'll be gone in a year or two & then those bonuses escalate.
