A couple of weeks ago or so I chimmed in on a thread and said with my big fat fingers "NO ONE WILL BEAT NEW ENGLAND!" WOW, I guess I jinxed them. Now only one game away from the SteAlers possibly winning a 7th Lombardi in our new building, I wanna puke! So I will extend my jinx to them NO ONE WILL BEAT PITTSBURGH!" Now everyone rest easy!!!

I thought the Patriots would win the Super Bowl too, but it's not surprising if you think about it.

- The Patriots defense is not all that great. It thrived off big leads by the offense.

- The Patriots offense is undersized. At some point in the post-season, I saw a team matching up with their smallish receivers and smallish running back and making the TEs beat them. As good as tight ends are, they're not the dominant players of any offense. The Jets basically shut the Pats receivers down.

- In the post-seasons, refs let you play. And that means you can take your shots on the quarterback. Brady is a great quarterback. But even great quarterbacks can be made average with a great pass rush, especially if you get licks on him. The Jets effectively shut down the Pats receivers, making Brady more aware of the pass rush and more skiddish.

Yep. And I was just visiting one of the Pats messageboard and they are railing on Brady and Belichick.

Many were saying that Brady is nothing but a choker and is a Bledsoe clone :laugh2:

Others were saying the coaching staff needs to be blown up...

what a bunch of spoiled brats. The team played much better than expected this season and many of the fans turned on them. Even going as far as booing them at the half when they were just down by 10.

Just for that they should be punished with a Bledsoesque QB for a whole decade. lol.

I just don't see how a fan can complain about him when some teams have been trying for years to find a QB that fits.

I kind of take resentment to this post --

You have to understand that this loss for us really bites. No one, and I mean no one thought we were going to lose. Sometimes it just happens, good coaching by the Jets and uncharacteristic play by the Pats -- interception, dropped balls, etc. It happens (you don't show up), but it sure bites when you KNOW you are a better team than the Jets and lose - the playoffs. But it happens.

I accepted it last night but trust me I went to bed scratching my head and saying to myself -- darn (well not such a nice word what I really said). How did that just happen???

So yeah, maybe there were a few REALLY frustrated fans that made some stupid comments, but if you knew anything about the Pats, Brady and Belichick are god in New England. And nothing really will change that.

I could say things like well, we got rid of Moss -- I was really unhappy about that decision, but I know that malcontents don't play for the Pats -- no matter how good they are. That guy I don't understand -- why he ever thought he was not appreciated in NE is ridiculous. And Belichick really is a defensive genius -- and had Brady to overcome the offense. But you know what, Brady has ALWAYS been short-changed on the receiver drafts -- the Moss pick-up was about the only thing the guy got.

But NE fans are some of the best (and knowledgeable) -- I think our season ticket waiting list is something like 45 years. And the tickets are NOT cheap, I pay $165 per seat x 3 -- and you have to buy the pre-season tickets. I went for around 25 straight years (to the games) before we moved to Florida so I am not just talking out of my hat. And I am NO homer -- I always try to be objective.

There are ALWAYS a few morons that make stupid statements. I think it is called utter frustration and shock -- and just not believing it. It bites me, trust me.

Oh, and may I add, the day we got rid of Bledsoe I had a VERY big smile on my face.

^^^ Oh please, I have been to probably 30 Patriots games over the years Foxboro OLD and NEW.

Besides the Red Sox, Boston is a bunch of bandwagon fans. I barely heard a peep out of a Pats fan before that first SB. Don't even get me started with how empty the Fleet Center was for those Bruins and Celtics fans.

Now all of a sudden they are all diehard, lifelong fans. Bull.

I sat on the 35 yard line lower level about 20 rows back with a REAL Pats fan that has indeed had tickets for about 30 years. What does the price of tickets have to do with anything ?

There are some knowledgable fans indeed. But most of them are just idiots.

Funny stuff right there. Speaks volumes about the arrogance of the typical New England fan. That was typical Tom Brady. He will kill you if everything goes his way. Get a little pressure on him and he crumbles. Ryan knew exactly how to beat him and his team executed it to perfection. The Pats were outplayed and out coached. The better team won that game and it showed from beginning to end.

And live in in New England myself and having watched this game at my house with a bunch of Pats fans I can say that New England fans are the least knowledgeable of any fan base I have experience with. Most of them can't name three QB's who have ever started a season for the Pats.

Bandwagon fans -- with a 45 year waiting list.

The only thing accurate about your statement is that when the team first came to New England there was very little fan support. And you know, that NE is Red Sox country -- what football, it was baseball. Almost everyone in NE that was a football fan was a Giant fan. Me, I was a Cowboy fan -- but loved football and got season tickets to the Pats. The stadium had about 55k seats and we only had around 25k season ticket holders. I became a die-hard Patriot fan -- and you know just how bad we were for years. Really bad. Hard to get traction when your team stinks and it is baseball country. My reward, 3 seats on the 50 yard line -- and I make a ton of money on them every year. Never less than double what I paid. And big money on the playoff tickets.

But time passed and the fan base -- and support for football came. It was a process. And sorry, you are WRONG, that support is rock solid right now. Nothing maybe like Red Sox fans who are over the top loyal, but the support is VERY strong.

Brady will be gone in a few years -- and then you will have your answer. Does the fan base stay. No doubt in my mind that it will.

Bitter statement and not true, but you are entitled to your opinion.

I could make this statement - when I lived in Dallas in the mid-80's (kept my season tickets) we were able to just go buy tickets for a Dallas - Pittsburgh game -- the game was not sold out. Try that in NE.

I am man enough to admit when I am wrong. I am not wrong about this at all.
What does a waiting list have to do with anything ?
What does the money you make off of your seats have to do with anything ?

Two more examples of this:
Most Ravens fans are bandwagon fans.
Most Falcons fans are bandwagon fans.

Not to mention that there are ways around a waiting list. I could probably buy Pats tickets tomorrow if I wanted to. Seriously, the Redskins have been sold out for how many years now ? I have season tickets too. I was told at least 25 years, 2 years later I got them.

You want to know a hard ticket to get ? Packers seasons.

In NE it was a little more than that -- football really was not "big" until we picked up a team, and starting winning (that part IS true). It was baseball country. People don't become football fans overnight. I lived all over the country before I moved to NE so I already was a football fan and got season tickets right at the beginning. Win/lose, didn't matter it was great fun. We used to start tailgating at 10:00am before the game and we usually had enough to drink so the numerous losses were not so painful.

I think no matter where you go you are going to find some people that will only watch winning teams -- and then there is always the base where it really doesn't matter. The support remains.

This post really is nonsensical.

The Packer fans own their team. Whole different scenario. But definitely a solid fan base.

And you want to go ahead and put your name on the list for the Pats -- let me know when you get tickets. Good luck, because I know people that are on that list and always want me to sell them my tickets -- not going to happen, because I would only ask cost if it was a friend. Bandwagon fans -- with a 45 year waiting list.

I'm sorry, but that's a marketing ploy.

Teams do this from time to time either on their own or they spread the word to the fans to make themselves feel more important about themselves.

The Skins claim they have a 25 year waiting list. Then every year a Skins fan will post on their forum 'I only waited 2 years and got my season tickets!'

That's because it's hogwash.

I have a friend who is a Steelers fan. They have something like 40 year waiting list, he got his season tickets waiting less than 3 years.

There's not a single fan of any team besides the Patriots that looks at most Pats fans as bandwagon jumpers.

The same holds true for how they feel about Cowboys fans, but Harris Interactive Polls and Nielsen TV Ratings paint a different picture.

There is no question in my mind that you are right. That IS the way of the world today -- if you know someone you most likely can step to the head of the line. Not fair though.

Glad you have those connections. I had to do it the hard way --

And the money is important to me. I don't deny it. Why would I give up my tickets and lose out on an opportunity to make some money?? That doesn't change my support for the team. I am older now, and quite frankly I enjoy watching the games on TV now. Well isn't that the definition of bandwagon fans?

New England has always had a ton of football interest. Mostly Giants fans and a few Jets fans while I was growing up here. Knew ONE Pat's fan all through grade school and high school. it's amazing the Pats won as many games as they did, freaking amazing.

They're a good team, don't get me wrong. But here are the things that work against the Pats.

1. They're facing the better teams in the playoffs. It's easy to pad stats when you're playing in a weak schedule.

2. The Patriots may not be getting the best a team has to offer. The NFL season has a lot of ebbs and flows to it. Do you actually think the Bears are as bad as the Patriots made them look? Or the Jets? Or the Steelers? Sometimes, good coaching beats average coaching. And I'm not talking about those teams having average coaching. I'm talking about the daily grind of a NFL week, where you have to prepare for an opponent immediately after you play an opponent and focus down the line on upcoming opponents. In the playoffs, you really only have to focus on one opponent at a time and give maximum effort because it's one-and-done.

3. The tempo is always ratcheted up in the playoffs, and teams have more time to exploit your weaknesses. Everyone recognized the Patriots didn't have a very good defense. But no one could exploit it because the Patriots offense was so good. As good as I thought the Patriots were, I said early in the season, come playoff time, somebody is going to take advantage of their small receivers and running back (Woodhead). The Jets did just that. Although I was surprised the Pats didn't win, I really wasn't shocked that the Jets secondary virtually shut the Pats down. That's the strategy I would have employed against them.

4. With the exception of the Ravens-Steelers game, the refs usually let you play and are reluctant to call penalties unless absolutely necessary. In the playoffs, quarterbacks are more open game than in the regular season. We've seen Brady get roughed up more in the playoffs (see Giants, Ravens, Jets post-season games) than we've seen in the regular season. Brady's a great quarterback. But even great quarterbacks get flustered when you shut down their receivers. Few teams could do that in the regular season. More teams are capable of doing that in the post-season.

The Cowboys are as popular as they have ever been. Harris Interactive polls continue to show that Dallas is the most favorite football team among fans in this country, for the 4th season in a row. http://www.harrisinteractive.com/vault/HI-Harris-Poll-Favorite-NFL-Teams-2010-10-12.pdf

In fact, since 1998, we've finished no higher than 4th (in the 3rd year of the Dave Campo era where he went 15-33 as HC). From 1998 to 2010, Dallas has finished 1st or 2nd every time except for 2002 when they finished 4th.

Compare that to the Patriots who have finished 16th, 11th and 19th in years and are now down to 2nd, 5th and 6th in the past 3 seasons.

Dallas continues to draw the highest ratings in TV and we have the longest streak of sold out games, both home games and away games of any team in the NFL and it's not even close.

Here is an interesting read --

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/403287-best-nfl-fans-bases-based-on-attendance#page/1

I currently live south of Tampa Bay and that is the team that we see every week. I could live here 100 years and never become a Buc Fan. This year they actually had trouble selling out their stadium and their have been blackouts on TV. For me, that is good because they used to ONLY play the Bucs on TV if they were playing -- and I have zero interest in watching them. When I lived in NE, two games were always on -- usually both at 1:00 and 4:00 -- an AFC team and an NFC team on different channels. And of course if the Pats were playing they were on.

This year because of the blackouts, I get to see a little more variety. It used to tick me off when you go to watch football and there is only ONE team on -- one you have no interest in.

Surprising on this list provided, the Raiders are at the bottom of the heap. Well, guess not if you consider that LA doesn't even have a team. La, la land.

It's not that surprising. Raiders have notoriously had blackouts for quite awhile now. I remember when the Cowboys played there in '05 or '06, they didn't blackout because once again, Cowboys fans showed up in droves to sell out the stadium. The game was played in either Early October or Late September and they said that typically those games never sell out for the Raiders.

Living in Orlando, the Bucs are not shown on TV here when they blackout and they were blacked out quite a bit this year, even the Falcons-Bucs game was blacked out IIRC.

Yet, right across the bay, SF has a very good and solid fan base. SF is a classy team though. If I was lucky enough to live in SF (who can afford it??), I could find myself becoming a "part-time" SF fan.

I will be buried as a Pats Fan, but where I live -- don't know why, just cannot get into the Bucs as a second team to watch. There are some loyal Buc fans though, and I respect that.

We have now lived here 7 years, and usually go back to NE in the summer. We live in the Sarasota area -- a nice place to live (beautiful), but definitely a retirement area (I retired in my 50's, so I am not ready to die yet or anything). They pulled some nonsense (the Bucs) with the season tickets -- like trying season ticket holders to pay for tickets years out -- no fan is going to do that, you could be dead by that time. And not only that, who wants to watch a football game outside when it is 90 out?? Not me, I would rather sit in snow. At least you can dress for it. I only went to two "unbearable" weather games in NE in a 25 year period -- and one was in September. It was like a monsoon -- pouring rain -- even with a raincoat, we were soaked -- but we won. The other was an Indy game when the wind chill factor was -17, around 0 real. I bought these carbon pads for our feet -- darn do those things work. I was cold, but my feet were on fire. I wanted to take my shoes off just to cool them off. But we won, and I sat through the whole game.

Orlando is a business town, and in the middle of Florida. I have to have an ocean -- or bay around me or I simply cannot survive -- I grew up in southern California. I HAVE to have an ocean where I live or life is unbearable. We are at the water at least 3 times a week -- it makes the soul whole. But Orlando looks like (when I pass it) and have visited (for the parks) as a great place to work. Boy would it be fun to work at a place like Disney World -- tough job -- not.

The only other thing that I questioned on this list, was how does a team go beyond 100%. Wouldn't that be a hazard, and why is it allowed? I kind of got confused on that. Maybe there is standing room only, and not included in the capacity. I sure would not want to stand through a whole game -- no thanks. It was bad enough in our old stadium that I had two guys sitting next to us that weighed in around 300 pounds each -- (this was when I first got my seats) and it was benches vs chairs. JHC, please you got your seat AND half of mine. It was not like I could say move over or anything -- their butts took half of my seat.

Anyway, enough. It was an interesting read.

Yeah I love the game of football. Any Given Sunday.

I'll eat my Crow, I didn't think the Patriots could be stopped by anyone other than the Steelers. Certainly didn't give the Jets a chance, or any NFC team.
