After meeting with owner Bob McNair (http://topics.chron.com/topics/Bob_McNair), offensive assistant Bruce Matthews has decided to remain with the Texans rather than move to the Dallas Cowboys (http://topics.chron.com/topics/Dallas_Cowboys).
McNair was out of town last week. He and Matthews got together Monday, and Matthews signed a new contract to stay with the Texans.
His primary responsibility is working with the offensive line (http://topics.chron.com/topics/American_football_positions) under John Benton. Matthews has been an assistant with the Texans for the last two years.

Man, not my favorite day of the off season.
This news, Campbell not coming, Campo and Maxie at the Senior Bowl, human sacrifice, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria.

Wonder who else Garrett has in mind? I can't think of any other names that have made the rounds off hand (other than Chryst - but that doesn't seem as likely now).

I didn't read anything today about Campo and Maxie being on the plane to the Senior Bowl.
Can you recap this news of where it was reported?
Thanks

Maybe we are going to leave Campo and Maxie in Alabama. Jason Garrett can come back and tell the defensive backs that Campo and Maxie are on a farm now, running and playing with other horrible coaches.

I just can't for the life of me think for a second that Rob would keep any of the current assistants, especially after the regression of our secondary.

Continuity guys! Don't you remember that continuity is what's best for this team?

This is disappointing. :banghead:
I wonder if the contracts being offerred are luke-warm because of clauses regarding "If no 2011 season..." and how their pay would be half or less, etc.
My guess is that is the case and the Texans simply gave him a better deal with more security.

Wow, boy Garrett hasn't done much to increase the Coaching talent seems like other than Rob Ryan. I am really dissappointed with current STatus Quo other than Rob Ryan. I hope changes are yet to come, we just don't know yet. If not it will be a dissappointing change in staff or not much change I guess.

This supposed All Star coaching staff Garrett was going to assemble hasn't quite panned out.
I hope Jason is better at recruiting free agents than he is recruiting coaches.

this flat out sucks...I had hoped after Cambell got the TE position with the fish we would have made a serious run to get Matthews
I sure hope there is a good plan B
and dont even get me started about Campo and Maxie

I'm more concerned with the players they get or don't get than I am about any assistant coach.

Cowboys should go get Pete Mangurian, who was just released by Tampa Bay because he had a falling out with their offensive coordinator. The man worked wonders with their OL, including starting two rookie guards.

First Hudson Huock gets a promotion rather than being fired for his garbage offensive line, now this...
The hits just keep on coming...

It really may not be a promotion but a shift for Houck to focus on the running game more.

Maybe (hopefully) Garrett feels that he and Rob Ryan can get more out of some of the current coaches than has been shown before....

I'm not too bothered by this. I don't ever recall hearing that Mathews was a great coach. Granted Houston wants to keep him, but I know it's partially due to his HoF status with Houston. (even though it's not the same team!)
Like most Head Coaches....its hard to get the assistants you want...
The Genius Big Bill couldnt get the assistants he desired.....Wade couldnt get some of his......now Garrett is finding out how hard it is to get assistants he likes.
We were fortunate to get Ryan...4 other teams supposely wanted him according to his Dad.
Its funny but ....31 other teams out there are not going to give up good assistants. Just because were the Cowboys doesnt mean coaches just drop everything to get a chance to coach here.
You have to be lucky in the league sometimes you know....the year you are looking for coaches or assistants they are under contract :( ....so you sign someone else....then the following year....those same assistants are free....but you already made a decision that past year.

Houck and Campo should have left soon after Wade long before Sherman.

Interesting....hopefully JG looks into it....
