Journalists root. Anybody who tells you otherwise is lying.
We root for good stories, for good guys, for karma to catch up with those who aren't, for happy endings, for guys who have persevered, for comebacks, for underdogs, for games to end well before deadline and, yes, for guys we covered when we and they were just starting out.
Full disclosure: I was rooting for The NYJ on Sunday, for that reason.
I was hoping the Jets would win because I wanted to see running back LaDanian Tomlinson return to Fort Worth and practice and TCU and play in a Super Bowl.

Journalists are human too. They have biases and favorites.
The key is you have to be objective when the situation calls for it.
But columnists have a bit more flexibility. They can more freely share their opinions.

I think most readers understand that. The issue is that most of the time the situation calls for the journalist to be objective and the local Dallas journalists fail miserably at it. ESPN is worse as they promote fanboys.
The quote in my sig below from Steve Dennis is quoted word for word. He would rather play a character depending on where he's working than to be a credible journalist. It's almost like Dennis is a professional wrestler who wrestles as a babyface in one territory and then wrestles as a heel in a different territory.
Crazy enough, Dennis seemingly doesn't hesitate to mention this either.
I understand that these guys (and ladies) have to pay the bills and have families that they are responsible for. But, you can't claim you have journalistic integrity and credibility when you state that you're a bad guy when you're working here and a good guy when you're working for another outlet.

That was very well written. I enjoy it when the writers can let their emotions show beyond snide remarks and plastic chair psychoses conspiracies.

That actually takes writing talent. Like Lennon writing about how great the world can be at times versus some hip hop star boasting about having 24" Daytons on their SUV.
