Raiders asked for permission to interview Jets DB coach Dennis Thurman for their DC job but Jets denied permission

I know some wanted the 'boys to go after him. Maybe they did or knew right off the bat, Jets weren't letting him go.

this suggests to me that he would have been allowed to interview if he wanted to. having your team refuse is a nice way to keep in the mix for future positions (as opposed to turning the interview down). He might have even talked a bit to Rex's brother about his experience with the Silver and Black

Two thoughts come to mind. First is simply Jets want to keep Thurman in his present position; so they refuse but will give him significant pay raise to compensate him. Or he didn't want the interview & asked Jets to refuse permission.
It is usual to grant permission if it's a promotion. Wonder if Jets would deny permission if Cowboys asked for him as our DB.

What a stupid comment. If he loves working for Rex so much, what do the Jets have to be afraid of by letting him interview?

How can they not allow him to interview for a promotion?

Good. If Rob Ryan gets hired as a HC after turning around this Defense we can get Thurman. We couldn't have if he had a deal with the Raiders.
I'm so freaking selfish.

How can they not allow him to interview for a promotion? He has a contract. The only one they can't deny is HC or GM.

Oh, I thought it was any promotion.

Definitely makes sense, especially since we hired Rex's brother. Rob probably let us know Thurman wasn't going anywhere.
