I don't think national anthems have a lot of meaning if they aren't from your nation.
Whenever someone sings the US national anthem really well, I get goosebumps.

The Star Spangled Banner, no question, especially when it is sung "correctly",so to speak! If you can find the singing of it by the combined glee clubs of the various military academies at the Super Bowl between the Eagles and the Patriots.....Goosebumps!

obviously your own anthem is going to mean more to you than any other, not another anthem gets me like flower of scotland but thats not what i'm asking. musically i think the german and french ones are particularly rousing and i just love the welsh one when they sing it before the rugby at millenium stadium, sounds amazing with 70 thousand odd belting it out.

I think the only other National Anthem I even know is the Russian one and I know it from "Hunt for Red October." I'll call it my favorite since I can't say "Star Spangled Banner" and that because those actors could really sing.

People who screw it up because they want to try show off their voice should be shot on sight.

the russian one's excellent, especially done by the red army choir.

and thank you for not picking god save the queen!
think i know most of them through watching international sport, always remember how much ivan zamarano the chilean forward was putting into singing their anthem before the game against brazil in the world cup in france back in '98. still periodically watch that video on youtube, good to see that for all the money he made from the game how much representing his country meant to him - restores your faith in rich overpaid sportsmen.

I`m with you Hos , I only know the Star Spangled Banner . I know " DIXIE " , with me being from the South , but that don`t count. I guess I need to watch the Olympics more.

You're barking up the wrong tree here dashoo.
We Americans are far too proud of ourselves to pick anything but our own. :D
Most Americans don't know any other national anthem save maybe O Canada.

Hard to beat Whitney's version...even today.
I agree with two of your choices. The French one is good just on a musical basis, and the German one is good in terms of lyrics-- "German Women, German Loyalty, German wine and German Song". Any anthem that celebrates those things is good for me :)
Russian one is strong, I also agree with that one.
