Okay zoners what will the Cowboys go for in the first round? Do you think Jerry will go after a CB or fill in the need for the O'Line? Or will he surprise us again, and go for a stud in the draft like he had last year....It remains to be seen if there is even going to be a draft since we have a supposed strike that might happen in the works.

now this would be awful . i know it's just speculation on your part but the draft is the only thing fans have .
to answer your question i say neither i think jerry will go D-line. not saying i would just what i think we are going to do. for the record i would go CB over o-line if we couldnt trade down.

I would like to see us move out of the 9 spot to pick up an OT and get the extra pick however the main thing is to get a quality player with the 1st pick thing about the draft it is not just about today but the future of the team and the more quality players you get the better off you are in the long run.

There will be a draft and there is no strike

CB & O-line can easily be addressed in this class, example:
Trade down from 9 to 17 adding 33rd pick:
17th pick:
Brandon Harris, CB, Miami
33rd pick:
Stefen Wisniewski, C/G,Penn State
40th pick:
Benjamin Ijalana, OT/G, Villanova
71st pick(3rd rd):
Deunta Williams, FS, North Carolina
I know i'd for sure love those picks, 4 future starters and were not out of the 3rd.

I'd go for that. But how about we take it a step further down in Round One and trade the 17th pick for the 21st and 85th selections.
21st pick:
Carmini, OT
33rd pick:
Stefen Wisniewski, C/G,Penn State
40th pick:

71st pick(3rd rd):

85th pick(3rd rd):
BPA
Now we've drafted 5 quality players in the first 3 rounds including our new starting ROT.
OMT - The trade down from 9 to 17 is worth the 49th pick.

If Peterson i there, they will take him....but that is doubtful.
If not, then it's either OL or DE in Rd1.

they will see who goes ahead of them, if someone leaves us an impact player on defense, I think we take him--I hope we trade down and add NT and OL

Looking at this, I think I could actually fathom trading down now.
Our whole o-line would be re-built and Williams should be a player once he gets healthy.
Guess we'd have to rely on FA for defense.
Seymour and Huff could really improve us. Get a corner like Joseph to solidify that rotation and create training camp competition for either starting spot.
This all would make sense to me and is realistic.

Adding corners & safeties does nothing if we dont improve in the trenches. And im sorry but we're gonna need a whole lot more than Seymour. A draft with none of the first 4 picks being on the defensive line is a recipe for disaster

We have 1 pro bowler on the d-line and if we get Seymour in FA that's 2 pro bowlers on a 3 man front.
We then get a cog for NT. That take care of the d-line.
Huff takes care of safety, and/or Dawan Landry. Doubt we go after both.
Joseph is a very good corner and could start for most of the teams in this league.
LB we need depth in the middle. We're fine on the outside.
Now me personally, I would prefer Peterson, Fairley or Dareus with our first pick.
But if our o-line gets built out like that and we go get defensive players like the ones I mentioned in FA than how have we not taken care of the trenches on both sides of the ball and our secondary?
I think we should get Marcell Dareus with the 9th pick but everyone talks about trading out and getting o-line help. Or an OLB. Lol!
Read my post entirely as I used the words "I think I can actually fathom trading down" after I saw sonny's board.
I also mentioned that we would have to fix are biggest problem, the defense in FA if we drafted the way he suggested. So I mentioned the players to do so.
Believe me, I know our defense is our problem and I think it starts with our front 3 and than the secondary.

.
I think most of us would like that, but many may not be willing to trade both our 1st and 3rd picks to move up and get one of them.
Now if one od them somehow fell to us, I doubt most here would want us to trade down at that point. We'd take him!
But that is a very big IF any would even fall below 6 or 7th.

Really hard to say at this point unless we know if there will be a free agency period. Supposedly Cleveland is going to release Eric Wright CB and Wimberly has already been release by Oakland.
My bet Ryan gets both of them. Wright is only a 4 year guy and KW a 5 year guy plus could easily see us going after Jonathan Joseph CB out of Cincinnati and/or Donte Whitner S out of Buffalo. All of those will be at most mid range contracts not top end type.
It also would allow Dallas to part ways with Anthony Spencer, Terence Newman and even possibly O. Scandrick. You can be fairly sure that I. Olshansky DE is going to be traded to Houston and wouldn't be surprised if Newman and Spencer were part of that deal. If so, then wouldn't be surprised to see a 2nd and 3rd or better in that deal.
Just reading between the lines, I could see F. Jones possibly on the block (not saying he will but could see it) especially if Garrett wants Ingram at RB. Then you probably pick up a cheap back that wants to regain his status like a Cadillac Wiliams out of Tampa Bay so your RBs could become Ingram, Choice, Williams and Miller. More power than speed but that is how Garrett learned the business.
Also could see Bennett be traded to say St. Louis along with say a Scandrick and maybe L. Davis OG. Probably could get a 2nd in total for the 3 of them, mayber even a 2nd and 4th.
Could see a small trade down at that point with a Minnesota or Miami who I believe will take a QB and want to jump Washington.
As to Felix Jones, I like the kid but at Arkansas he was never the #1 guy and just don't see him ever being our #1 guy. He is more of the 3rd down/change of pace guy. But if New England wanted say Felix and say our 40th for the 28th and 33rd, I would be all over it.

If Smith can hang on to the weight he has put on and performs well at the Combine (among other things) I'm thinking we could have our starting RT next year.
He can start at 300lbs+ I think he is ready to start this year at RT. Let him develop and next year or the year after, let Free and Smith decide who plays LT.

That is exciting, isn't it?
I know we have other needs, I just have tunnel vision on that OL and FS.
As I see the team, we need the following in order:
Starting ROT
Starting FS
LOT reserve. We really don't have one and perhaps Ijalana could be that guy. And perhaps compete and provide depth at OG.
OG/OC Someone to compete for a starter's spot and at least provide some depth.I really don't care what we do beyond that. But if we traded down to a spot where Carimi made sense and that gave us the ammo the address these other needs by the end of round three, I'd be pumped about 2011.
Now I know there could be some solutions in FA, but I think we'll have our hands full trying to retain our own DL and OL FAs.

Our recent track record says we will not be a big player in free agency until the higher priced (and more sought after) free agents have found their respective teams (Redskins). It's fun playing free agency Madden though. To answer the posted question, I think we go O line. With issues at both Guard spots, a right tackle problem, and no backup center in the hopper, I think we should try to get the best at center and/or guard and try to find a good mobile tackle for the right side. My guess is we select a guard and center very high with picks 2 and 3. We will choose 2 project LBs late and with the first pick, Mr. Dareus. Upset special: there will not be a CB picked in the draft and we will enjoy once again, the trio of Scandrick, Newman and Jenkins with Mr. Ball and a bum free agent corner rounding out the CB unit.

The college players aren't locked out and the draft would go on.

Depends on what JJ thinks we can accomplish in FA. If we could get someone like Clabo to shore up RT then I think it'd be worth it to trade up to get Peterson. If we still need 3x OL going into the draft, we really need to trade down and take an OT like Carimi and pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick.
We are pretty needy this offseason: RT, G, G/C, CB, S, probably NT and RB, and that's just the immediate needs. We really need to get one or two of those in FA or else drafting is going to be difficult.
Ideally I'd like to see: sign a FA RT and S
1) Trade up for Peterson, a dynamic playmaker and PR
2) G/C Wisniewski
3) NT
4) Cecil Shorts, always good to add speed combined with quickness
5) RB Roy Helu or John Clay, powerback for short yardage

There are some uber talanted prospects on the Defensive side of the ball who could be next level Super Stars at #9 including DE Cam Jordan, DB Patrick Peterson, DL Marcel Dareus and DT Nick Fairly.
If/when one of these fall to #9 you can't trade down.

I'd be happy with Peterson, Prince, or a quality RT. Of course if they could sign Clabo through FA then I'd be a lot more willing to be looking at CB or DE with that first pick.
