IRVING, Texas (AP) - Jimmy Robinson was the receivers coach for the New York Giants when Jason Garrett was a backup quarterback about 10 years ago. They got to know each other through offensive meetings and on the nights when Garrett put in coach-like hours, staying at team headquarters long after his teammates were gone.

They became fast friends, prompting talk of one day working together. So when Garrett became coach of the Dallas Cowboys in January and began putting together his first staff, he wanted Robinson on it.

Only Robinson was busy coaching receivers for the Green Bay Packers. Garrett had to wait until the second week of February for permission to interview his pal, and Robinson was faced with deciding whether to leave the Super Bowl champions.

I look forward to seeing how he works with this group in Dallas.

I saw this write up a few days ago and thought how this is what we need at that coaching spot:

Robinson was responsible for coaching different aspects of the passing game as well as developing the wide receivers. He is considered meticulous and a perfectionist and does not bend an inch on demanding his receivers follow the design of the offense.

One of the best in the game... I'm glad Dallas at least filled coach Sherman's shoes.

Is it me or is Garrett (seemingly) putting together a really solid staff?

He sounds just the guy of kid we need to help Dez to reach his full potential & also to get Miles back on track, etc. We'll also get a chance to see if Ogletree really can be a consistent pro football WR.

Why oh why did anyone ever have an issue with Jason Garrett? It gets harder to defend all the time when you see the reports like this coming in.

Oh yeah, red hair and Ivy League educated. I keep forgetting these awful traits.

It was because they couldn't tell the difference between bad play calling and poor execution.

They still can't. Now they're just convincing themselves that he's gotten to be a better play caller suddenly. They're still not sure yet, but they're cautiously optimistic. They'll be on board next season. Unless the team loses a game or something.

He still does not get the difference and insists anyone who defended that description was blind.

Execution in the pre-season, effort in the pre-season, and obviously preparation in the pre-season I will agree with. Those are obvious since those are the things Garrett changed immediately and look at the results. 5-3 and 2 plays away from 7-1 with a mere change in focus.

Has me thinking the season, if we have one, could be a whole different story.

I'm thinking in the preseason we were vanilla because Garrett was setting Wade Phillips up. How else do you explain how JG suddenly got to be such a good play caller as soon as he took over as head coach? Nothing else makes sense.

And I guess Garrett held a secret meeting with the defense players and somehow convinced them to play poorly so he could take over as the temp HC. Golly jeez, I thought the defense was Wade's forte. Dumb me.
