View Full Version : Music You Like, But Aren't Sure Why

We all have different music tastes. But do you ever find something you like that is completely outside of your normal tastes? If so, what is it.

I have no idea why, but this song is mesmerizing to me. It is nothing like what I will normally listen to at all. I don't even know anything about the artist other than her name. I am that disinterested in everything but this song.

My wife listens to Nora Jones, some of her songs catch my attention and stay in my head even though they aren't what I prefer. Her songs do put my kids to sleep very easily so I appreciate that about her music.

That kind of a song is mellow notes...and with the pictures? No wonder you don't know...I don't either. Graphics of those flowers with those tunes...that is what is making you happy.

My musical tastes range from Megadeth to the Indigo Girls so there's nothing that stands out to me as "something I like but not sure why." However, I was pleasantly surprised by how talented Amy Whinehouse is.

I have been told that she writes all of her own music, plays all the instruments, does all the vocals and mixes it all together and produces her own stuff. The attractive woman in the videos is her.

I have a couple of her CDs but haven't listened to them in years though.

I used to like the hard and heavy stuff but the older I get, the more I want music to calm me down not rev me up.

I'll be 72 next month and when I really want to get mellow I play my Indian flute.

BTW...I couldn't agree more. Winehouse is terrific....granted she isn't allowed to be viewed. There isn't enough beer in the world to make that woman attractive.

I am not a big fan of electronica type of music. However I have to say I have always liked the prodigy.

When I first got the cds of music for the gilted generation and fat of the land I could not stop listening to it.

You aren't alone in that thinking. The Prodigy did some incredible things with that style. It was almost like they wanted to be heavy metal and just fused it in with what they knew best.

Not as much music but the the duo The Knife. Their music is so simplistic but moving and then they have songs that are just bizarre and haunting. Honestly I have not heard any song sound like the next one.

There was a popular video made after 9-11 showing a slideshow of the catastrophe with that same Enya song. Made it a tear-jerker.

I like all sorts of music so its hard to say. Sometimes I hear a cheesy, catchy, teenybopper song on the radio and i find myself singing it for a few days.

The most ludicrous, however, was a commercial jingle that i couldn't get out of my head for a LONG time and found myself humming (and sometimes singing out loud) the tune for some odd reason.

I have heard other songs by her and they are okay, but do nothing for me. That one song though, is quite a different effect. I feel that song and I have no idea why.

I used to have a job that was conducive to spending large amounts of time working with several people in a confined space....which led to hours of goofy, if not completely insane behavior. Strange tunes would be beat to death, tunes a lot like that one. Jingles like "5 dollar footlong" would become serious threats to our mental health.

Ever here the Muppets do Mahna Mahna? Yeah....try listening to that song 1000 times in a week. :D

Good times.

I love him. I just don't understand why. And my friends give me endless crap about it. It *is* piano music, and he does use lines like 'real-estate novelist', calls 'money' 'bread'. He's definitely a guilty pleasure for any real man's-man, right?

Enigma's 1st album, "MCMXC A.D." always fascinated me.

I think because this gal put it on one memorable summer afternoon, while we were knocking boots in the middle of Lake O' The Pines TX, on the top deck of her Daddy's houseboat.

You might like Yeasayer too they toured a lot w/MGMT. One thing that confuses me is that MGMT went from kinda unknown to really big very fast and their music can be pretty inconsistent. I know on their albums they have like 2-3 really good songs then the rest is pretty much mediocre.

Music is a universal language...if you really listen to different music, there is always something good about ir, otherwise it would not be called music.

So, I like it all...there is always something in music.

There are all sorts of catchy songs that are hard not to sing along with even if you don't like yourself for doing it. Every time I hear Achy Breaky Heart I dona't know whether to shoot myself in the head or sing along. My desire is to shoot myself in the head, but I can't help singing along in my head. My first reaction is just to turn it off quickly so I don't have to make the choice.

It's worse when you have an ear bug when you lay down to sleep. Over, and over...

Just tell them that he's "played all kinds of palaces, layed all kinds of girls."
He's got an enormous amount of outstanding music. I seriously have no problem defending the greatness of Billy Joel. 3 of my favorites are "New York State of Mind" (as the Cajun one pointed out) , Stop in Nevada & While the Night is Still Young.
