Who has a red car? I bought my wife a new car this weekend, but we have to wait till this coming weekend to get it. (It's in Baltimore) Reason? He said it's because it's red. The guy said that most dealers don't like red cars on their lot. He said they don't sell. I see lots of red cars around.
Not sure why they wouldn't sell. I think the car looks hot. It looks similar to this one, except the one we are getting will have a spoiler on it and it's a 2011. (the pic is a 2009)

1) There is a perception that red cars stand out more so you're more likely to get pulled over for speeding.
2) Red washes out the tail lights so aesthetically some people don't like it.
3) Red is not seen as a manly color and often it is men who are the ones doing the buying of cars.
4) Some cars just don't look good in red. Mustangs are good red cars, whereas a BMW is not for instance.
Just a few reasons that might contribute.

Don't know if it is true or just one of those rumors...but I have heard for years that insurance companies tend to charge a tad more for insurance on red cars due to some kind of study that owners of red cars are more apt to be wild for lack of a better term.
Again, have no clue if insurance companies do that, but I do know people who believe it and don't buy red cars for that reason (so they don't have to pay more insurance).
So whether it is true or not, it would seem that maybe perception plays a part into why dealers might have lesser number of red cars on their lot as they think people believe that and won't buy one.

I've never heard that before. I drove a red Dodge Daytona thru most of the 80's because it looked cool.

Maybe it's model specific or in this case the entire brand. Can't say I have seen many red cars of any of their models.

I have a red 2011 Mustang.
I advance ordered it from the dealer though, so it wasn't off the lot.

It must in part depend on make and model.
There are lots of red Honda Fits zipping around, but not so many Mercedes or BMWs. That's my impression, anyway.

I used to love red cars while growing up, but that has tapered off.
Red is great on muscle cars (Mustangs, Camaros, 'Vettes) but over the top on luxury and/or normal vehicles.
I'm now a big fan of black cars. Black is the most tedious to keep clean, but it looks the best in my opinion.

That is freaking hot. I got my wife a new car, but I was thinking about getting one too. We used to always have two cars, but when I starting commuting to the city, we just got rid of the second car.
I was looking at the 2011 Camero while car shopping with my wife. (she won't have an American car :( ) I've always been a Ford guy (until I met my wife), but I took a liking to the Camero's design. Didn't get a chance to look at it at a dealer though.

Her last car was a LR3 and was black on black. The one we are getting actually looks better with the black interior, but with two kids.... Well, the black ends up looking terrible. So we went with the tan interior this time around.
btw, I don't think this car looks over the top. :)

My wife works for Progressive insurance...it's a myth.
They will on the other hand charge you more based on your credit rating.

You can't beat a Black colored car.Agreed. Every car I've owned has been black, with the exception of my first, which was white with black racing stripes ('69 Camaro). I just ordered my wife a black BMW X5. Won't be here until May, though, unfortunately.

When I met my wife (in Dayton) she drove a black car. That is the last black car we have owned since. I see very few cool looking black cars and trucks around here. There won't ever be one in our garage either.

Haha...
It's very rare to see a red Benz or Beamer. As long as you like it...that's what counts.
Good call on the tan or camel interior. I think that's a necessity for those cars.
I am starting to like the black or darker colored leather interiors, though.

I like the black, but the black on black got very hot during the summer. It would have been worse in Texas.
Our X5 and the 5 series BMW both had steering wheel warmers, but it wouldn't cool the damn thing down when it was hotter than hell. Thats one thing I give BMW over some of the other cars. Their seat warmers heat up fast. The Land Rover and the Mercedes usually took a while to warm up.

A red car is extremely feminine and I question the sexuality of any man driving one.

I don't like red personally. Most automakers don't even make red, they'll make some maroonish red color instead.

I don't think newer Mustangs are all that great in red. Classics Mustangs look great though.
I love black myself, especially with my Challenger, but it's a PITA to keep clean and it was the reason the Mustang I had before was Silver.

Not a fan of black because when they're dirty, they're dirty. But when they're clean, they look oh so good.
My G37 is blue slate. I love dark colors other than black. My next car will likely be graphite colored.
