As mysteries go, this one on the top of a snow-capped mountain has proved to be particularly chilling.

Police are baffled after the body of a man in a suit and designer shoes was found at the peak.

The man, who has not yet been identified, was discovered lying face down in the snow at the top of the peak in Mallnitz, Austria, at about 2,000 metres above sea level.

A police spokesman said: “It’s very unlikely he could have walked that high with no winter clothing and the shoes he had. It’s possible he fell out of a plane. It is unlikely someone would make it walking up through so much snow in minus temperatures to this level in just a suit and normal shoes.

I thought this at first, but taking a look at that mountain made me think the mob isn't inclined to go mountain climbing over a body, when a shovel and some lime will do.

That makes more sense, to be dropped from a hovering copter. Getting tossed from a plane would tear him apart, maybe leaving a giant skid trail as well.

I think he climbed up there in full gear, changed into his suit and threw his gear off the side of a cliff. Then he just waited to die.

I think a bizarre suicide is pretty plausible. Hiking up there and then changing into that suit and waiting to die or purposefully overdosing on something. It seems more likely than being dropped from a plane or helicopter because of the blunt trauma that would probably seem pretty obvious. It also seems more plausible than someone or a group of people hauling this guy up there, whether he was dead alive or unconscious.
