ScoutNFL: Wisconsin guard John Moffitt echoed what his teammate with the Badgers, tackle Gabe Carimi, said Thursday with regard to their offensive line playing at its best when the stakes were at their highest.
"I think that's why you win big games," Moffitt said, "because players play well."
There were probably a few teams in the NFL this past season that would have rather had the entire Wisconsin offensive line instead of their own. Naturally, Chicago comes to mind. -- John Crist, Scout.com NFL Analyst

ScoutNFL: Cecil Shorts is looking to follow in the swift footsteps of fellow Mount Union football alum Pierre Garcon, the Indianapolis Colts wide receiver.
Like Garcon, Shorts excelled at a smaller level.
And Shorts has major NFL ambitions.
He's rising quickly on draft boards, according to league sources.
NFL scouts love his speed, kick-return skills and like his potential to even run the Wildcat offense if asked as a former quarterback. He's expected to run in the 4.3 to 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine.
Last season, he caught 63 passes for 1,106 yards and 17 touchdowns, running for one score, returning two punts for touchdowns and another kickoff return for a score after missing the first three games with an ankle injury.
As a sophomore, he caught 77 passes for 1,485 yards and 23 touchdowns to earn All-American honors. He also quarterbacked his team due to an injury in the Division III playoffs and rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.
Shorts is also a track and field All-American selection.
He finished fifth in the 55 meters in the 2009 indoor track championships.
What do you want NFL teams to come away knowing about you?
Shorts: "When they meet me, they'll see I'm an overall good guy with no character problems or issues with the law or team discipline. That will speak for itself. Playing-wise, I just want to prove that I can play. People question my speed, which I take as a slap in the face. I'll definitely prove that I'm fast, will catch every ball and that I can play at this level."
What kind of time do you expect to run?
Shorts: "I've been running 4.3, 4.4. My trainer is a very tough timer.
What sort of questions do you expect about your Division III background?
Shorts: "I expect the main question that will arise from all the scouts and coaches and general managers is, 'Can you play at this level?' I'll go out there and do my best and compete. It should be a very good week."
Why should an NFL team draft you within the first three to four rounds?
Shorts: "No. 1, character. I won't get in any trouble. I'm a team guy. I will be the first and last guy on and off the field. I will bust my butt. I didn't have a scholarship. I earned everything I got. That will carry over to the NFL. I'll be the first one in the NFL room. I plan to outwork everybody. I've got a chip on my shoulder. Nobody is going to outwork me. Once Pierre made it, that really motivated me." -- Aaron Wilson, RavensInsider.com

ScoutNFL: A report Thursday said Vikings receiver Sidney Rice may have an arthritic hip, and an earlier report cited a kidney issue before the 2010 season.
Vikings coach Leslie Fraizer wasn't getting into specifics, but he said the team has full confidence in Rice's ability to return to his 2009 form.
“I really don’t want to get into some of the medical questions on our guys right now, but the one thing I can tell you is he’s a guy that we want to be a Viking and we’re going to do everything that we’re capable of to try to get that accomplished," Frazier said of the pending free-agent receiver. "We don’t have any medical concerns regarding Sidney at this point. Our doctors have cleared him. They’ve made it clear to us, don’t hold back and whatever you want to try to do to get him signed. That’s how we’re approaching it.” -- Tim Yotter, VikingUpdate.com

ScoutNFL: South Carolina 6-foot-4 receiver Tori Gurley has the build of a basketball player. Turns out, he has a basketball background, having played for the Charlotte Miners AAU team head coached by former NBA great Dell Curry.
“I was just at (Duke guard) Seth Curry’s game a few weeks ago when they were down in Miami," said Gurley, "and I talked to Dell not too long ago. He just wished me all the luck in the world and told me to take it one day at a time.”
Curry’s assistant coach was another NBA great, David Thompson. They suggested Gurley focus on football “because I was starting to bang people around when I was 18, 19 years old playing AAU team.”
Gurley entered the draft after his redshirt sophomore season and is viewed as a late-round prospect. He caught 44 passes for 465 yards and four touchdowns in 2010. But he’s a big target who didn’t drop a pass last year.
“I’m very physical, and teams know that I’m a football player. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to win the game.” -- Bill Huber, PackerReport.com
