I never believed in love at first sight until it happened to me. I saw my wife at a dance at the University of Arizona. I told my Mom the next day that I had met the woman I was going to marry. 5 weeks later we were engaged and married 2 and a half months after that. I didn't even have her phone number yet when I was telling people she was the one.
I wasn't wrong.

At a church in Japan.
I had just arrived in Japan to work. A couple days later some Japanese guy knocked on my door and invited me to church. Going to church in Japan wasn't on the top of my list of things to do in Japan. I didn't want to go but I felt like I had to go to give thanks for arriving safely. Lo and behold, I was so happy to have been invited and often wonder what would have happened if I didn't go. Or If I wasn't home, or if I was in the shower when the person knocked on my door. In fact, I was just getting ready to go out when the person came to my door.

I sort of met my husband three times.
I was on a school choir trip when a friend of mine came down with chicken pox and had to be taken home. Her brother drove all night from Maryland to Florida to pick her up, and I thought it was a really sweet thing to do. We didn't talk beyond "hi," but the gesture made an impression.
Several years later, I ran into him again visiting my friend, who was living with him temporarily. He was in a long term live-in relationship, so nothing really passed between us then, either... but I did think he was pretty great.
A few more years down the road, when everybody was still IMing on AOL, I kept getting these messages from somebody I didn't know. My usual tactic was to just sign off AOL rather than deal with the unsolicited creep of the day, but this one was persistent. After the fourth or fifth time over the span of a week or so, the message said "Hey, don't sign off, it's Cheryl's brother Chris." Turns out we were both single at the same time for the first time since we'd met, and the rest is history. Despite the fact that we'd known each other for years and years before, he still tells people we met on the Internet.
I met mine at a self serve gas station. I was filling my tank and she was directly in front of me struggling to get the gas to pump.
I walked over smiled and grabbed the nozzle and said you stick it in like this. I told her it has to be pushed in deep she bgan to lick her lips. As I was filling her tank we were making intense eye contact.
As the gas was pumping she said "you really know how to work that." I thought we were going to make love right then and there. :cunning:I gave her my number and she called me that night and a year later we were married.

I met mine during my seventh or eighth year of college....her freshman year. She was partying at one of my friend's houses with another girl that I would go on to date for two years...
She dated a guy that I played rubgy and partied with while I dated her best friend/roomate...
Life happened, and we hooked up about four years later. Gettin' hitched next month with a little one due in August.

Online through mutual online friends. I had known who he was somewhat but had never spoken with him. The one night the group of us were all hanging out we hit it off like peas and carrots and I knew right away he was the one. :)

I was in my late 40s and divorced and went to a singles party in Denton, TX and immediately saw the most interesting woman there but her body language said she didn't look directly approachable right then so I volunteered to work the bar figuring she would come for a drink and I could strike up a conversation but she never came to the bar and when I went looking for her she was gone.
The next month there was a New Years Eve party and I went hoping she would be there and she was. I decided to go to the snack table and work my way over to her. When I got to the snack table I looked back to where she was sitting but she was not there. As I was looking around for her I heard a voice on the other side of me say "I know I shouldn't, but..." and it was her and she then put a snack on her plate. I gave her "that' smile and said "I like girls who do things they shouldn't" - it was the only thing I could think of. She laughed and we chatted for a few minutes and I found out she was with a date but I danced with her once and we got separated but at midnight I was looking around for her and again I heard her voice behind me saying "I thought midnight would never get here." I turned around and she threw her arms around me and planted a kiss on me I will never forget and then went off with her date.
I called her at work a few days later and asked her out. We've been together 24 years now and it never gets old. We rarely argue because each of us wants to please the other more than we want to please ourself. There will never be another in my life.
A few years later I left my lucrative management consultant practice in Dallas and went to work as a ranchhand on her father's ranch for room and board and $500 a month and worked hard for him for 10 years and that was the most enjoyable job I have ever had even though I knew nothing about cattle or hard physical labor when I started. My first day on the job I wore Wraglers instead of a business suit for the first time in my adult life. She has turned my life completely upside down and I love every minute of it.
I respected him more than any other person I have ever met though he has passed on now and the ranch is our home.
Growing old doesn't get any better than this. When my time comes I will die a happy man.
Thanks for this thread; it reminds me how lucky I am.

Met mine working valet at celebration hotel, she was a starbucks barrista working inside at the bar early mornings. She seemed like a total goodie goodie, and I assumed she was a religious type and probably a wait till marriage type so I had no interest in her at all.
I used to read books at my podium when I had nothing to do, and she would come out and talk my ear off while I was reading.super annoying. She was nice enough though and when I wasnt busy being annoyed she was actually fun to talk to. She would bring me coke and bacon from the kitchen in the mornings which was awesome. Sometimes cranberry muffins.
It was obvious she liked me a lot, but I was an athiest pot smoker who liked to party a lot and was far from a virgin, so I really felt she was barking up the wrong tree.
Our hotel had an xmas party and she basically asked my friend to ask me if I would go with her so I figured what the hell. I was told it was just a casual party for employees with a bar so I show up in jeans and a tshirt only to discover its not casual at all, everyone is in dress wear. She shows up dressed to the nines, hair done, awesome dress the whole deal. I'm left standing there feeling like tithe biggest pos ever.
I explain my situation and apologize, she had no problem with it she just laughed and was happy I came. We had a good time that night and our coworkers did the whole "you guys should kiss"thing. Something like that was no big deal to me but I didn't wanna rush something like that on her, but to my surprise she was quite eager. We kissed and some one took a picture (just on the lips).
I asked her if she wanted to go out some time and that id take her wherever she wanted to go. When I go pick her up like three days later she picks dairy queen. Awesome. During the meal I laid everything out on the table about myself. She was cool with it all and said she grew up with her dad smoking even though she didn't. She was a virgin who had only ever kissed a guy once before me, and never dated anyone before. We just clicked even though we had very little in common.
We just celebrated our 5 year anniversary (of dating) and have been living together for 3 years now. We have quite literally never been in an argument. We'll worry about marriage when we are more financially stable.

Sixteen years ago at Chili's outside of the Florida Mall. I started working nights there as a Bar Tender when I transfered up to UCF and she was a waitress. One month later we had moved in together, married two years later.

Over the phone. I called my cousin (who lived 800 miles away) just to chat and my future wife answered the phone. I didn't know she was sharing an apartment with my cousin.
We actually talked on the phone off and on over the next three months and really got to know each other very well. This entire time neither of us had any clue what the other looked like.
I finally jumped on a plane and we got a chance to meet for the first time - at the airport. One thing led to another and two years later we married. To this day people are amazed how everything worked out for us. The opportunity to only speak but not see a future spouse is something I don't think anyone could foresee happening.

Well, not spouses yet, and looks like my relationship is the youngest here (only about 14 months). We don't plan on getting married until I am finished with school.
One of my best friend from college was im'ing me about this one guy she met on an online dating website called OKCUPID. I was intrigued by her experiences, and thought it wouldn't hurt to sign up. This was the day after Halloween 2009. I talked to some guys, and almost got coffee with one, but for the most part, didn't really like most of the guys who tried to get to know me better, even being pushy about it. Hello, I'm not interested.
Anyway, a week after that, I got an email where the OKCUPID robot sends you these "quivers" that recommends a couple of guys who may be a decent match. I saw and read one of the profiles, and immediately emailed him this looong drawn out email, and the rest was history. I went to Boston about a week later for a conference, and told my friend who introduced me to OKC that I really liked this guy. We talked over Thanksgiving.
Finally, I found an opportunity to meet him in person and invited him to a grad student mixer. We told each other we'd wear our team's jackets (he - Steelers gear). I brought a sorority sister because if things didn't go well, at least I'd have her to make the rest of the night better. We just ended up having a blast. It was a great night too because the Steelers lost to the Browns that night, and I rubbed it all in (in good fun though, lol).
Anyway, the next night, we went on a mini-date to a local restaurant, and we kept hanging out after that, especially to watch football (I loved it when the Cowboys defeated the undefeated NOLA). He didn't ask me to date him until around Christmas. And, we've been inseparable ever since. Never had an argument except about football, and things are even better now than they were a year ago, and getting better.

My wife and I both has ties to the Dallas Mavericks. She was in town visiting and at a Mavs game and we met at the game.
She lived in NY, I was still in Texas. Not long after that, I was traveling mostly to NY on a monthly basis for business. Every time I came up, and wasn't busy with work, she would come out and see me and we would hang out. (do the tourist crap or see a Yankee/Knicks game or whatever)
After about a six-seven months, she would fly down to see me in Texas, or meet me in Chicago from time to time if I was working there.
About two years into it, I applied for a job in NY for the hell of it. They paid my moving cost and I got an apartment. A year later we were taking vacations together, and a year after that we tied the knot.

Met at work. She worked one shift, I worked another.
Some of the ladies at work said we should go out.
All she knew about me was the guy with tattoos, all I knew about her was the girl with all the jewelry.
We went out and this coming July we will be married 16 years but probably been together closer to 20.
I used to tease my wife and tell her that I seen all of that jewelry and thought I was marrying into money, instead I found out I would be helping her add to her jewelry collection.

Thought this would be fun.
Just gotten out of the Navy and had my first attempt at living as a civilian.
All my buddies had been married while they were in the service but I wanted to whoop it up and play the field. Bought a convertible and sports clothes,to help my chances.
Put out the word to my friends that I wanted a skinny blond that could dance and if they found one before I did to bring her around. Sure nuff, here comes one in where I was working, bringing this tiny thing with him and introduced us. It was almost time to get off work so I suggested that she hang around and I would take her out to eat mexican food. She did and we did.
The only time I couldn't eat mexican food.
Now there is a couple of versions of what happened next.
1.She fell in love with my convertible and I had to marry her to get to drive my car.
2.When I met another woman, I couldn't pick her up to go out because my car was with her(skinny blonde)so I finally married her.
3.I tell it that she married me for my money because she quit work when we got married.
4.She asked me to marry her and i didn't know how to say no cause she had that puppy dog look.
By the way, she had been a dance instructor and that was my third requirement.Needless to say around three months later we did the deed and I have given a lot of thought to could I have done better if I had waited or looked around more.
Must wholeheartedly say I have the perfect woman for me and have no regrets.

I was a graduate research assistant for a summer internship program at the University of North Texas in 2000, she was one of the interns. We sort of dated for the first year (not exclusively), she was 21 years old (7.5 years younger than i) so i wanted to make sure we sowed our wild oats before we got very serious. We got into a serious realationship in the second year, got engaged in year 5 and got married a year later.

You cannot leave us in suspense! Who is she? Famous? TV Star? Model?
She was actually doing a modeling shoot on Daytona Beach. A few buddies and myself stumbled upon this photo shoot for some clothes magazine. My buddy hit it up with one of the girls and found out where they were headed that night.
My friends made total jerks of themselves, I figured I never stood a chance so I went about my business. Turns out my wife thought I was playing it cool and being the gentleman while my friends acted like dogs. Truth was I never thought I stood a chance and did not feel like wasting my time.
We hit it off for the 2 weeks I was there. About 3 months later a buddy of mine that was on the trip and was dating one of the girls called when we were back home and wanted to know if I wanted to go have a few drinks, he had a surprise for me.
I met him at the bar and as I had my back turned talking to the bartender she tapped me on the shoulder. The rest is history. She never left my side, moved from her home and into mine with in 2 weeks. After 6 months she was pregnant.
Our anniversary is March 8th. Married 8 years together for 12.

I was outside a hotel in New Orleans and helped a woman struggling to get her bags out of a taxi. We hit it off and were inseparable for the weekend. We exchanged info as the weekend came to an end, thinking nothing would result from it since I'm from Mississippi and she was living in Seattle. For a year we skyped, along with a couple of trips to visit each other. She moved here and soon afterward we decided to get married on our lunch break.
She's originally from South Africa and her father was a political prisoner during apartheid. Last year we flew there and I got to meet her huge family. It was a blast. I never would have imagined that the love of my life was from another continent.

Third year law school, she was in journalism school. I went out to the university that night with a cat I knew to play pool but alas all of the pool tables were full.
We decided then to go to the University pick up joint next door, the Pit Pub. I saw Contessa across the bar and slowly but surely she made her way over to me. I asked her to dance to get a better look at someone else on the dance floor but alas I ended up rapping with her the rest of the night. That was over 20 years ago.
